I have a 2006 Ford f150 Harley Davidson with the 5.4 and I've only been able to see the lil handheld junk tuners for my truck , I guess not many people are tuning older 3v 5.4s.....
Hey guys when I was doing turbos a long time ago when we needed to figure out the springs in the toolbox that were not marked we drilled a hole in our workbench and used a fishing scale to pull on the spring through the hole to get a basic pound reading it was really close to right most of the time!!!
Listen to me please!!! Give Paul's Performance a call in Jackson, MI. He was an engineer at Ford and has tested that 4.6 to the point of blowing many many motors at drag strips for Ford. He knows the weak points of this motor and it is the oiling system. He can definitely give you some pointers on what will make your life a lot easier in tuning this car. It's only a phone call - hear me out!
this. especially a 2v. if the engine was previously built, mayyybe 550 600hp but in that case the motor would be buuiiilllttt. i dont think stock 2v heads would get them over 450 hp.
I took my factory exhaust manifolds and swapped them to exit out the front of the engine. I welded on some junkyard ball and socket exhaust couplers to connect my y-pipe into the single turbo. The turbo had almost no lag. It was also only a T-3 flange. All low and mid power sort of like an EcoBoost engine.
I highly recommend you pressure test that intercooler Jeremy. I work in a fabrication/welding shop and I've had lots of experiences with prebuilt intercoolers that leaked like no other. Especially if they are used at all. What I've seen happen is most guys tig welding aluminum do not taper off the weld correctly and leave craters at the termination point. Over time those start to leak and crack very bad. I've repaired hundreds of coolers all with that same issue whether it's intercoolers or radiators. These leaks cause a much more severe pressure drop/loss in the cooler core. I'm a huge stickler with my tig welds and make dang sure I do it right once. Maybe this will give ya something to try.

With all your tuning knowledge geared towards fuel injection and more specifically LS engines I would love to see you start with something with a carburetor, tune it, swap carbs, build it up, do everything you can MSD ignition, the whole thing and then swap it over to one of the carburetor style fuel injection systems and then tune that and see how far you can really take it versus what you did with the carburetor. I think it'd be really awesome to see you learn along the way and build on top of the amazing amount of knowledge you already have!
Do you remember when you got the car the guy said it was set up for boost? Do you think he has already gapped the rings and that is why you have lower compression?
Fun to watch you guys.... I am new here. You should take it to an experienced tuner! They would have the software plus there are ways you can add timing or pull it out, get fuel mixtures right, and much more a guy that does this for a living and knows what he is doing is able to accomplish!! Don't get me wrong I know you have to learn somewhere. When you figure out the boost each spring makes then paint or mark your springs and write down the total boost each spring combo makes. Good luck and keep trying!
To be fair he didn't give the correct name, The "PID's" he was talking about is short for (Parameter Identification Data). A closed loop PID system(proportional-integral-derivative) is something different. Like what a car does with the O2 system, it uses that info from the sensor and makes an adjustment to the fuel. He was simply talking about Parameters he was able to log.
@@bigce I was actually wondering if i should try tuning cars.. LOL.. But i guess that it wouldn't be such a thing like i do with little quadcopters 😅 Thanks for the reply!
Instead of drilling holes, you just put a tee on the hose to the wastegate and then put a needle valve to adjust the amount of leakage. Much easier and you can actually control it.
Got a good name for her "The hand-me-down Crown" And oh boy, sorry if this is a low blow, but freakin Salvation Army is killing Uncle Samantha in terms of reliability!!! 😂😂😅😛😝
2 valve motors suck to make power on but damn they sound so good... Biggest issue is the intake and heads. Better flowing heads and put that old intake back on. Guys are making 600 hp with a 2 valve.
There best bet is to use a PI stock intake from I believe 2006 and newer crown vics. They flow just about the same as the edelbrock intakes do. Same as the PI intake. You dont see much of a power gain when using a full K&N intake vs a PI intake with a K&N drop in filter because they already flow very well.
True. I had a 98 GT that I swapped on heads and intake from a 2000 GT, had all the bolt on's, lots of griggs and maximum motorsports suspension, Koni/steeda on all 4 corners and bassani mid length headers and X pipe with Dr Gas mufflers. It was insane and bonkers loud but I think maybe was a mid/low 14 sec car at best. I built it for auto cross and solo II events though so going fast straight wasn't really a big deal.
The subwoofer(10") on my computer's 5.1 Logitech speakers was rumbling pretty loud when the Crown Vic was running, and it's not up all the way!! 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
I am a professional, so the first thing I noticed is your turn signal fluid was low.. Higher compression does not like forced induction, intake restriction wont be happy either.. Its like chocking a swimmer but asking them to be faster. All the running won't help unless you go w/a smaller prop where your gearing is.
When I first turbo-charged my 1996 Mustang GT 4.6 I didn't have an intercooler. The 200+ degree temperatures was melting my PRO-M MAF apart! A $100 3" Aluminum eBay intercooler fixed that.

A better way to control boost is to use C02 gas and plumb a pressure sensor into the port to get the boost you want from all the back pressure generated in the cap, the gate does open when you don't think it does and that where you command more c02 to make sure it stays shut.
Was thinking that with one turbo it's a reeeally small housing, I think you guys in the US forget that it's still a 4.6L 8cyl motor flowing shit loads of air cause its a 'small' v8 haha
If I remember correctly from back in my CVPI days, I believe that aluminum intake was known to pick up 20 hp over the stock plastic manifold. Was a pretty popular mod for the 4.6 back in the days.
Oh man this makes me want to do this to my crown vic. I manual swapped it recently and this would be a great way to make more power easy.
