I started dreamin about kitesurfing about 15 years ago when I really had the strength. I'd heard about a guy who got in a river in France with his kite stuff and three hours later he was at the ocean on a nice beach Now I'm 72 and have moved from Hawaii (Big Island) to North Carolina where It's not life or death being dragged across sharp rocks. It turns out that ya can't really LEARN to kitesurf on the Big Island where its cheap and where I lived. That was suicidal as you get dragged around some during the learning curve. LOTS of face plants. Few beaches on that Big Island. Here in NC beaches are huge and uncrowded and the shallow knee deep lagoons are perfect. I'm making carbon foils and plan to eventually do some downwinders like that near the beach. Been 4 years as of now late Dec 2022 . got many sets of masts and wings and fuselages etc. The truth is much different than the romance. It's probably taken me so long because of my age and stuff. But I'm stoked to see guys like you doin this in my old stompin grounds. Learning to kitesurf and foil is better than surfing and I never thought I'd ever see anything better than surfing. ROCK ON !

Genuinely experiencing life - Wonderful! I love the balance at the end - your being exhausted and having your bottom whooped by a few setbacks, and at the same time enjoying the fact that you just freakin' completed an epic journey. Thanks for sharing!

I just got out of the water prone foiling. This video was rad! Down winding will be a challenge that I will try to conquer. Thanks for the inspiration!

Where would you ever get any practice, so cal isn't exactly known for wind?

Plenty of thermals and clearing breezes especially in spring and summer. But a couple trips to the Gorge doesn't hurt!
