Great Review!! 👍🏼😃 I got the 1300 because of this video! Winged with it and used it with my foil drive set up and I absolutely love it! 🙏🏽😃. Can’t wait to Downwind with the 1300! 🙏🏽🌬️💨💨🌊🏄🏽♂️
First time dock starting...so good mate, congrats! I have the 1300 and am 85Kg so you have me motivated to give a dock start a go again. Tried many years ago on a 200 Gofoil. Keep up the great vids .
Excellent HONEST review! I ride #sabfoil 1150 and 1350 and 1250. Love the down to earth tempo. Pumping out off a ladder to catch small rollers that are unsurfable would be an area worth exploring.
Very much in agreeance with the phrase 'dock starting is hard'. Even when you think you've got it, like I'll have 10 textbook dockstarts in a row, then come back 2 days later, nope. Can't dock start to save myself.
Mine is in the mail. Just finished my first session with the 1050 HPS and I was blown away by the glide compared to my Naish 1800 HA. But it was more difficult to get up in 12 knot light wind with me at 100kg. Hoping the 1300 will be the light wind answer.
Yes the 1300 is great for light wind winging with 2 foot or less chop and swell. Great downwind glide, pumpability, control, and enough speed. Easy to get up as long as the light wind is steady. Once the wind picks up or it gets choppy, it’s time to move to the 1050 which is such a stable foil in the chop and goes upwind much better. 1050 is the perfect foil for lower intermediate big guys in 14knots plus.
@@ben3989 it takes about 1-2 sessions on the 1050 to figure it out. I’m 100kg so I need around 14knots to get up. You just need to develop the muscle memory to apply a lot of front foot pressure and try not to pop up high on foil until your board breaks the surface for a second or two. If you don’t time it right, you’ll drop back down off foil which is super annoying. It helps to be overpowered on the wing to learn the timing. Once you figure it out, the foil is a dream. Cuts right through chop and you can wing right down the face of a wave without popping out. Fast too. Great glide and easy gybes.
Great review! What’s your weight. I currently wingfoil but am getting a dock start setup. I’m 95kg and was looking at the 1150 however now seeing this review you have me thinking differently🤔
Hey dude, beginner here, about 95kg, I want to try pumping, surfing and linking waves and maybe sup foiling and maybe even wing foiling. Would you say NO if I asked, should I buy a 2200cm² wing? It sounds like it will be slow as
Ps I suck at surfing, only started 2 years ago and live by a beach with mostly small 1-2ft waves and occasionally 4-6ft, but when they get big it gets choppy, short period waves of 6-8s normally
@@davewestfoils You make 'em and I'll watch 'em ;-) ..... have you tried the 1300 with the progressive tails? I've just received a 1300 and trying with the p400 - not sure it's the best combo for dock starting but works on the wing.
I currently have the BSC 890 and am pretty keen to get a pump Machine in my quiver . Do a lot of towing and am pretty keen to disk start. How do you reckon an ART 1099 would go .
ART 1099 is my normal pumping wing. Tried to dockstart and couldn't get it to go at all. If you're a lighter rider there are videos of people of dockstarting it. But we couldn't get it to work this day. But for everything else the 1099 is my absolute favourite.
Would you consider taking out the 1150 in small waves swell (or it's too slow) for ProneFoil. What would be your favourite Axis Wing (Red Fuse) to ProneFoil in small conditions (72 kg Rider)
Hi! I'm sure there is plenty of fun to be had on the 1150 in small swell. If I had one there is no doubt I'd do it every now and then. Even rock starts or beach starts would be alot of fun with the 1150. Do you currently have an 1150? For prone I run as short a fuse as possible. So it'd be the crazy short. It just changes the cadence of your pump so it can be more taxing pumping and more pitch sensitive. Which I like but can be a difficult adjustment if you don't get alot of time on foil.
I have the 1150 for Wakefoil, Pumping but want to know is it better to be on a different Axis front Foil for small waves/swell that will fit on Red fuse
I’ll chime in here. The 1150 is not a great foil for the ocean especially in any chop. You tend to get a lot of buffeting and turbulence with the 1150. I am in a different category as I’m 63 kilos. But that 1150 is made for one thing. And that’s glide. It’s ok in a lake. Or dock starting. But in the ocean I find it’s out of its element.
What all-around axis wing would you recommend for a rider in the 80kg range? I want a foil that can dock start / wake thief, down winding sup and prone, and prone surf. Do you think the 1150 would be a good bet? Thanks
I’d genuinely say the 1100 Spitfire could be your best choice. You’re asking ALOT of one wing but the 1100 I’ve done all of the above on and enjoyed myself.
Thanks for the response. I just wanted to clarify something in my original question. Amongst the three things I would like a foil to do, i.e., dock start / wake theif, downwinding, and prone surf, the discipline where I want the best performance / efficiency is in the dock starting / wake thiefing area, followed by downwinding. With that in mind, would you still recommend the spitfire 1100 most for someone who is 85kg? My original comment said 80kg, but i weigh 5kg more in winter with a wetsuit. Thanks again.
regarding the 1300 on prone surf, do you find any issues with it having too much lift during takeoffs. Is there a max wave size that can be popped up on using this wing?
I definitely don't use the 1300 anymore for Prone - and never really did unless I was desperate. I used only to test it for others. Its a big slow wing (faster than the 1150 and 1310) so conditions need to be weaker. It's not so much size - more power. You want weak waves. Pumps for days though.
@@davewestfoils is there any issue with me using the 1300 for prone, is the takeoff difficult or is it the same vs a smaller wing like 1099 or 1010.. I don't care about the turning and i can pump the 1300 fast enough
Hey Dave, looking at switching from Naish to Axis 999ART - Now I picked on the advanced Fuse & the boards' rails. Currently riding Fanatic 95L 2022. Do you think the rails are placed forward enough to support this setup? Cheers Mate.
Hey Vincent! The Fantatic boxes are a little too far back in my opinion for the advance fuse. Having said that I've still been riding the ART 1099 on my fanatic and it's been okay. But not as balanced feeling as it should.

82 cm :) for the dock and the surf :) thanks for watching Jonathan.
