The paddle out from Lobster Bay we saw one particular big wildlife, but he just cruised past. Still that was not the funnest paddle getting around the headland 😅
Thanks for putting this together, it shows what goes into it and also what the experience is, really well. I felt like I went along for the ride, without getting the leg cramp 😅 Epic stuff mate!
Oh stoked to hear! Turns out trying to edit it all together into a video took far longer than the journey itself 😂 I love documenting it though, so good to share and relive the experience.
Mental Run !! Did you know Lobster Island is a right hand Slab wave ! Excellent in the right swell, used to surf it back in the day. I now wing/surf foil in the Irish Sea, Cumbria, UK. I hope to one day ditch the sail for just the paddle downwinding " The Holy Grail". Use blokes are awesome & an inspiration 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙 5 Chakra Run
Oh no way! Even paddling out we thought there must be some surf opportunities around there. With the rate gear is progressing for DW you’ll be ditching the paddle with ease soon enough. The journey into it is getting less and less frustrating 😂
Thanks man! Agreed, that would be the ideal. A lot of the guys are using Vaikobi, they have pockets and bladders but I have never used them so I can't really comment.
Zane was riding the Lift HA170 with an 80cm mast and a KD Maui 13” marlin tail. Jeremy was on an Axis 82cm HM carbon mast with 325P tail and a prototype wing very similar to the HPS1050.
Stoked to share this wild adventure! I knew we were going to have strong wings so my goal was to ride something that could still go slow and cruise with the small bumps, but then still be able to drop into those bigger swells and ride fast. That’s why I went with the 1125 for the slower waves, but then added a red shim (1 degree) to the tail to give it more top end speed and glide.
Epic! Can’t wait to try this discipline with the new upcoming Army board ! My favorite thing at the moment is Rock starting into down winder on a prone board with the 2400 :) Any chance you can connect me with someone who can sell me another 2400 ?! Mines trashed from learning to rock start but still doing the job just haha In Tassie we got lots of downwind set ups hope we see you down here exploring one day Yiew !
Oh man that’s so epic, I’ve always wanted to try a rock start into a DW or into surf! I’ll have to come down and visit. I have a friend with a 2400 I don’t think he uses so can ask him if wants to part ways with it.
That would be Awesome mate! Would be epic to see you in Tas and you will love exploring the set ups! Hit me up, I mentioned to Adam as well we can set up with jets skis and boat etc heaps of wind, waves and exploring to do
Epic, only the moon is the limit for you!! I am your weight using the 725 925 cf950 and ma800 surfing waves....I want to stay longer on foil but still have fun on the waves. Which one would you recommend between the 1325 (used for your record I think) and MA1225???I don’t really like big foils for surfing but really want to stay longer on foil
Haha who knows the limit of this sport, just stoked to be involved!! I would go for the MA1225 at your weight. The 1325 will give you more pump and have more lift, but it won’t be as easy to control on the wave. The MA foils are much better for riding waves but still offer good pumping. I use the MA1000 a fair bit on small days, but I think the 1225 will give you that extra pump while still being able to turn and surf the wave. The MA1225 is similar in lift to the HA1125 and HS1550V2 for comparison.
For flat water paddle ups as you are learning the biggest slowest foil is the easiest. I started on the HS1850 and that was really easy, but the CF2050V2 would also be a good one. But if you want something that is easy to paddle up and can still be ridden DW then the MA's are for sure the go. They wont be as easy as the big CFv2 or HS wings, but they will be way more fun to ride DW.
Like the way you show your gear choices and reasoning behind each item. Question about wingsize, is it relative your weight, if you would weigh 90kg would you chose a bigger frontwing or still chose the ha925 or ha1125?
@@OskarJohansson1 Thanks for your reply. Been winging and downwinding with a wing catching small bumps on the ha725 and ha925 alot and also have the ha1325. The 1325 is totally another beast, slow and hard to roll in turns. Never heard a lighter rider that said the same about the 925. Maybe most lighter riders are also better skilled foilers? In my experience a 30kg weight difference is maybe one size or a little less. But for winging you make up for the difference with the wing power, more weight is not only dead weight so some extra power also. For pure downwind I think it would be impossible for me to get up on a ha925 but I would never be fast on the ha1325 and cant make it turn. Maybe the MA1225 is a better choice tho?
@@Stefan-Foil yeah I think the 1225 might be a better choice, but I would wait for the next size up even. In general Armstrong make foils in incriminates that go up by 10kg of rider weight in each wing size. A good example is my mate rides the 1225 when I ride the 800 for winging, but he also needs to use a wind wing that is 1m2 larger to make that work. Obviously there are many other variables, but generally that’s what we work off. I actually learnt to DW on the 1325. It’s not easy to roll, but for DW when you’re learning you’re mostly just going straight and changing direction rather than actually turning so I find the big span wings pretty okay. It does get more fun as you can paddle up the small foils ;)
Hello, I'm curious, I know you love the 80-85cm mast for waves / pumping. I was wondering if you still preferred the 82 over the 75 for flatwater pumping / dockstart.
I actually never rode the 75cm but I think I would still go for the 82 as an allrounder... unless you really want a second dedicated pumping mast then I am sure hte 75 will be easier to keep going!
It was such an epic send, what an adventure. My longest run was probably 30ish Km. My usual runs of 25km though I could stay at a very low heart rate and effort so I know something for this long was possible.
hey so how do you mount the insta 360 onto your paddle? If you do a normal paddle mount would mean the paddle shaft is 90 degrees to the paddle but I see your paddle is erased in post. How you do that?
I love that you were flying with the birds. Out at sea, clear water, and flying so free. Poetry
Downwinding adventures like these are what it is all about. Just so pure.
Amazing.
Love this mate. Great edit and the gear overview at the start was excellent. Well done on completing this epic run 🤙
Thanks mate, appreciate it! I am still on a high from it.... already planning the next one!
I was like 'holy crap, I'm from there!' Folks probably don't know there's a lot of big wildlife where you started. Tonnes of respect for all you do

Well done Oskar and team. That’s epic!!!! Spectacular coast line…and what a beautiful adventurous way to enjoy it.👊🏼
I’m inspired!!!
Thanks mate! Was such an adventure being out that wide
A great Watch! well done guys, so inspirational 😊🤙🏻

The most beautiful land and sea !!!!! Epic
Like to see that run done on really big sea
Would be so fast
@@seajan808 it’s so beautiful out there! In the other direction in a big southerly it would be so insane!
Can’t wait to see a south wind day brother . Thank you !!
Ever see tax collectors out there when doing a run ???

Epic run and unreal video!

awesome bud. yr an animal! great job.
Thanks brother 🙏
Great video, the volume jump right after 9:35 was a bit jarring though. Had me fumbling to lower the volume quickly.
Hi Oskar. Just amazing, insane!!! Can you tell us which foils the crew are riding?

Curious what lift foil Zane was using?
Zane was using the 170HA
Just increadable! What is the average and maximum speeds of this run?
Awesome to come along on this with you Oskar! Can you explain the reason you are using the red shim on your gear? How are you shimming for surf?

What's that axis foil the guy in green had 8:56? Looks like a chopped 999 or maybe a lower aspect prototype?
It is a prototype similar to the HPS1050 🤫

Absolutely. I think each wing size gives sizes up about 10kg. So me at 70kg riding the 925 then you would want the 1325 for the same amount of lift.
