ya i have to agree when the cars in auto mode its smooth and comfy in sport mode it does get quite a bit more solid on the road and you can feel bumps. Still not bad thou but could get annoying on a long drive
Not really. They made it look like a charger interior and didnt even distinguish anything to stand out. The older interiors get the point across and arent fancy.
This guy is full of it. I own A 2012 Dodge Challenger 392 with The 6.4L Hemi with an auto transmission And Paddle Shifters. I drive It everyday and it drives like a dream.Turns like it's on rails.Turn off the Traction Controls and mash the gas and your leaving a pair of tire marks on the road. This car goes 0 To 100 mph Really Quick and Cruising at speeds of a 100 mph or more is very easy to do if your not careful. It's has a lot room in the front. None at all in the back seats. I'm six foot one so there is no sitting behind me at all. Now the dash and the gauges I really don't having any problem with. If I had any things to complain about when it comes to this car it would be the stock exhaust system, It is to quite. The stock Head unit (radio) sucks ass and it doesn't come with a back up camera. The things I love most about this car would be the key less entry and pushbutton ignition. Just put the key fob in your pocket and your good to go. I Love the way the Steering Wheel Looks and the way it feels in my hands. The throttle response is great and The feel when you're pushing the gas peddle. It's hard to explain but it takes a little effort to push. The breaks are very sensitive. The first time I drove it and hit the breaks the car jerks to a complete stop. Plus where I live, no body has a 392. A lot of Mustang Gt's and Chevy Camaro's a Few Stingray Corvette's and some Dodge Challenger R/T's and a lot of tuners. But No SRT's Or SRT 392's. So she attracts a lot of attention where ever I go. I think my next car will most likely be the New Dodge Charger SRT 392 Or The New Mercedes AMG GT-S. I Love Mopar but man that new AMG GT-S. Thats just one BEAUTIFUL MACHINE. The 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 is a Great Car and Fun To Drive and no matter how shitty my day gets. It all disappears once I'm in the drivers seat and start the engine.
Well done on a great review, Brian. It's a rare occasion when a reviewer from America gives an unbiased review of an American product - the same goes for reviewers from any country and that country's products. Kudos to you, sir,
Is this dude high? I just did a review of the 2012 Challenger RT and the ride quality feels really smooth like a luxury car, I actually complained that it was too smooth. I don't know if this dude woke up on the wrong side of his cave but seriously...
I probably wouldn't let my girl drive.. She doesn't even know how to drive an automatic properly, let alone a man's challenger.. Not to sound sexist, but you know...
My dad has the 2007 dodge charger srt8 and that thing flies even if you barely touch the gas. Love it and then with some real exhaust on it it is one great car. Never drove it because I cant drive yet.
He doesn't say much good about most cars. Very typical of someone who gets to drive cars he never has to actually pay for. It's a $25K car with a badass set of improvements but he wants the interior of a $80,000 Audi.
It could be bias, since this is the exact car I drive, but almost everything he lists as a detriment, I actually like. The blind spots are insane, though, especially when backing up or changing lanes.
"You can get an automatic in a hemi V8 Challenger, but you've got to drop this guy out of SRT class to the 5.7 hemi, then you can get your automatic." Wrong. "4.8 second 0-60" Wrong. "You have 20 GB available to you" Wrong. "The ride quality is horrendous" Wrong.
Show me a car from the 90's with a beautiful interior like this. Please don't make stupid comments. If you don't like the car that is fine. The challenger is not always the best car for certain people. But to say that the interior looks like something from the 90's just shows how ignorant you really are !!
Don't need a fancy audio system, or high tech screens...just a nice exhaust, engine mods, roll down the window and listen to the car the way it was meant to be...
Everything is wrong with this car. But every time you drive it, it lights your heart. This is like the golden retriever that always chews up your expensive sneakers. Bad dog, but somehow she makes you happy.
The dash and UI were of course dated on this car, but what wasn't during that time? This was a VERY nice car for that period. Granted, 6.4L Hemis will likely be worn out if you shop for them on the used car market a few years from now, and this is not exactly a "sports car" in the handling department from the get go. But like the man says, if you need a commuter car that has the ability to go fast with a modicum of style, this might be as good as it gets in a few years.
The reviewer bashes the looks of the interior. I own a '14 100th Anniversary and the interior was exactly the retro look I wanted for a car that had retro exterior styling. Specifically the gauges look great! Oh and Challenger is NOT a pony car. Look up the definition and its clearly not. Mustang, Camaro equal Pony car. Challenger is a muscle car. Big and heavy w/ a v8. Dodge did a great job with the interior styling of the '15 and up but I prefer the pre '15 interior.
Strongly disagree with this guys opinion about the Challenger ! It s a an amazing car that performs great drives great looks great he's obviously not a mopar fan at all
1 guy on youtube says its great another dont like it. Car is a statement and personal expression in some cases. The car has to have it's appeal to the driver , style, performance, power and so on. Challenger, Mustang, Vetts and Camaro are all good cars in their own way and all can only do what their drivers skill tell them too.
Every other reviewer that has driven the Challenger says it's ride is compliant and comfortable. Better for long road trips than canyon carving. So take what is said here with a grain of salt.
He obviously hadn't done any research. It was probably just sitting there when he got to the office. I've driven one myself, a 2011 inaugural edition which was fucking awesome. Wife put the wrench in those plans. I plan on buying a Charger SRT which I also test drove which was awesome also. Any SRT you drive is awesome, Geez even the Neon was a great ride
interior wasn't great, I'll give you that. Nothing compared to the upgrade from 2015. Not sure what you see wrong with the rear tho, granted it is better today.
Why Dodge decided to make this car so damn big is beyond me. My dad had a 2010 SRT8 for a couple of years, and it was pretty quick and everything, it's just way too big and way too heavy. My mom's SUV felt smaller and easier to drive. When you're not flooring it, it feels like a big sluggish boat
wished he talked more about the performance. This isn't a luxury sedan, it's a pony car with a massive engine. Why not talk about highway passing power and all that other stuff?
I agree i like the gauges, i like the red in them, every other review said it rides well just not like a race car suspension which means who cares you wont even know the difference the SRT suspension will be more then enough. Sometimes they complain and then you try it out and you dont know what they are a talking about. their standards must be much higher then mine.
He might want to check the air pressure in the tires regarding ride quality. When I bought an Acura TL in 2005 it too had a harsh ride. The tires had close to 50lbs pressure. Needless to say after bringing them down to 30lbs the ride was just fine.
I am a mustang fan but can't decide for a 2013 gt or 2013 rt both have decent amount of power but the challenger has a lot more room and seems more manageable I'm thinking of goin with the challenger.
Funny that Dodge refuses to compare the SRT8 to the GT500. Dodge uses the SRT8 in marketing against the Camaro SS and Mustang GT, where it is 8000 to 12000 dollars more.
So weird how many times he says it is not available in an automatic, considering I am looking at one right now. I also wonder why he bashed the suspension but never told people about the multiple modes it has. More research needed
this guy should be paid a lot more than whatever he is getting paid. He is THAT GOOD!!!, I don't know what his current salary is, but it should be higher...
This was the worst review and reviewer. More accomplished automotive folks have had a significantly more positive view of the Challenger SRT8. The car is amazing and hands down, it is superior to it's competition.
Cnet is more about the technology in the cars, which the 2013 Challenger does not have much of. This guy's review of a 2015 Challenger should be very different
Supernaut351 im sorry but for the money a Boss 302 is a much better bargain. That car's gonna be worth a fortune in a couple decades too AND its faster than the SRT8
Agreed, you can both stick and paddle with 5 speed automatic, paddles are future they are proven to be faster, all ferrari have them as option and Formula 1 uses paddles.
The Challenger is the best of all the modern pony cars in my opinion, and this douchebag is the WORST possible person they could have gotten to review this car. That being said, the interior really DOES need a redesign. The gauges and seats are excellent, but the REST of the interior is terrible. It's the EXACT same interior from the Charger, and there really IS too much plastic. Plus, that radio/GPS screen is an eyesore. Still, this is a badass car. If it wasn't so ridiculously overpriced because of the dealerships marking up the sticker price, I wouldn't have settled for a Camaro.
yeah, Dodge says the Challenger is the most affordable in it's class but here in hawaii, Mustangs are the cheapest with Camaro's coming in second. Challengers are freaking expensive here. I've seen V6's at 37k, RT's at 45 and SRT's at 65! WAY above the prices you see on Dodge's website. My RT Blacktop had a 43,000 sticker price on it!! Oh well, I love my new car and it's nice not having too many of them on the road like the Mustang and Camaros(;
Yeah but at the end he says you have to drop to the 5.7 (R/T) to get the auto which is wrong and I think he said it another time but I don't feel like watching again
I'll only believe that, if it's crashed. If it's still at the dealer, you MUST be talking about the base V6 model-- or, you're lying. There will never be a top-of-the-line Challenger sold for $27,000
I don't know what this guy is saying the challenger rides way better than a camaro ss you feel like you are going to break your spine every time you hit a bum
he is wrong, the back looks great in fact the original was too wide, the paddle shifters are fastr they use them in F1, im getting the automatic which will probably be 8 speeds. With a new model with super charger which will do on my own. They said they it will cut into some of it, i thnk possibly making slightly shorter and slightly thinner but i hope it still looks like this one. At first they were saing baracuda but Dodge did it right, dont change teh challenger too much. 500hp.
It never Change's. Reviewer hated them back in the 70's. and they are not to nice to them now. But the funny thing is that a dodge Challenger back then is over $300,000.00 and I have seem them go higher, and that is if you are one of the Elite that has that much cash is the bank. and if you can find one. Will there be a repeat, of history?
AFTER1 MIN 30 SECS. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF. THE REAR OF THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE LARGE. LOOK AT THE TRUNKS ON THE OLD 70S CARS, THEY WENT ON FOR MILES AND ANOTHER GUY WHO THINKS THE DASH IS BORING...ITS COPYING THE OLD STYLE,,THATS THE WHOLE POINT. THE CARS BACK THEN WERE PLAIN WITH POWERFUL ENGINES. WHO CARES ABOUT ALL THE FANCY MODERN GADGETS. GO BUY A CADILLAC IF YOU WANT FLASHY NEW STYLE AND LEAVE THE CHALLENGER ALONE.
Ok I respect your opinion, however I dont agree with you. I happen to own a 2012 challenger 392, before I decided to buy it, I compared it to several mustangs and camaros., The challenger has by far the best interior. I actually happen to like the dashboard just fine, not to mention the steering wheel and the seats.
I realize that... He contradicted himself then he said at 4:35 you had to get the 5.7 and he said it at the very end when he was talking about the pricing... and I'm not bragging about it or anything im just stating a fact so I know he's wrong when he says you can only get a auto in the 5.7 L (r/t)... Also I'm happy to say I have a 392 at all
ignore what he said, ride quality of the challenger is comfortable and sporty. ive been in an rt and it rides very well
Jordan Lerner I know right...Real comfortable ride
ya i have to agree when the cars in auto mode its smooth and comfy in sport mode it does get quite a bit more solid on the road and you can feel bumps. Still not bad thou but could get annoying on a long drive
They better than magnums
The interiors on the 2015/2016 are wayyy better now. Looks like a totally different car on the inside than this 2013
Not really. They made it look like a charger interior and didnt even distinguish anything to stand out. The older interiors get the point across and arent fancy.
@@jaked6878 yea I like the old one alot more. I really like the giages I just wish they made ambient lighting for them
I love the two Mustangs in the background when he's reviewing the interior. Nice touch

My friend had one i was like no way you can’t get an automatic
Well done on a great review, Brian. It's a rare occasion when a reviewer from America gives an unbiased review of an American product - the same goes for reviewers from any country and that country's products. Kudos to you, sir,

this is a straight forward and direct car..
What a man should drive and a woman should never touch..
Nah....women can drive whatever they like. As for the car, couldn't agree more.
I probably wouldn't let my girl drive.. She doesn't even know how to drive an automatic properly, let alone a man's challenger.. Not to sound sexist, but you know...
Danica Patrick could probably show us both a thing or two..whether in your Challenger or my Charger.
True to that...
But still not my girl ahhahahaa :D
Why do i feel like this guy loves Subaru and those kinds of,cars and doesn't respect what dodge and srt are trying to accomplish
If you get in this car and the first thing you play with is the NAV/radio, you may have "low T".
One of the worlds most beautiful cars!!!
Ummm so i cant get an Srt8 392, with auto tranny? thats strange. Cuz thats exactly what i have in my garage... Bush League reviewer.
My dad has the 2007 dodge charger srt8 and that thing flies even if you barely touch the gas. Love it and then with some real exhaust on it it is one great car. Never drove it because I cant drive yet.
With how much work Dodge has done to improve their brand, it's a shame they have left this behind for so long :(
Guy gets a job reviewing awesome cars and then says nothing good about them.
Don't get it, myself
He doesn't say much good about most cars. Very typical of someone who gets to drive cars he never has to actually pay for. It's a $25K car with a badass set of improvements but he wants the interior of a $80,000 Audi.
It's around 45 k for the srt8
Well it is a POS Dodge
Well the SRT8 means it is a Street and Racing Technology vehicle, 8 means the amount of cylinders. And the SRT8 could be a 6.1L or a 6.4L.
@trevox excuse me, I'm pretty sure a woman like me could drive this muscle just as good if not better than you could
I guess this guy hasn't watched fast and the furious
It could be bias, since this is the exact car I drive, but almost everything he lists as a detriment, I actually like. The blind spots are insane, though, especially when backing up or changing lanes.
You can eliminate the $1000 gas guzzler tax (and +2 MPG) by getting an automatic version
.
"You can get an automatic in a hemi V8 Challenger, but you've got to drop this guy out of SRT class to the 5.7 hemi, then you can get your automatic."
Wrong.
"4.8 second 0-60"
Wrong.
"You have 20 GB available to you"
Wrong.
"The ride quality is horrendous"
Wrong.
The red seats are awesome, the gauges are great and easy to read. This type of review is what happens when a non-car guy get this as an assignement.
That stereo is awesome!!!!
yeah, to hell with this guy. i have a '10 srt manual and i love the ride and car in general.
ohhh i love this car
"Big and tall and thick"
Just like my....... :)
That first 69 Mustang picture looks off somehow. Is that a modern Mustang with a body kit?
Out of Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, the Challenger is my favorite one.
This car is oh baby ♥.♥
The new Challenger launched at the 2014 NY Auto Show has a vastly improved interior.
Beautiful inside and out
Everything is wrong with this car. But every time you drive it, it lights your heart. This is like the golden retriever that always chews up your expensive sneakers. Bad dog, but somehow she makes you happy.
i still like this car not trying to race it and i dont need paddle shifters this is a cool car in any model
His voice makes me think of coffee
Why
Lol
That first mustang picture wasn't a 69 just an S197 with a 69 body kit.
w00t Brian is back!
The dash and UI were of course dated on this car, but what wasn't during that time? This was a VERY nice car for that period. Dear CNET,
Thank you!!!!
Amazing how this car used to be a CNET Editors' Choice for 2009 and 2010. Now it barely got 3 stars out of 5. How much cars have changed.
Mustang is by far the best looking of the three.
Every other reviewer that has driven the Challenger says it's ride is compliant and comfortable. Better for long road trips than canyon carving. So take what is said here with a grain of salt.
I am so sick of ads you can't skip
He obviously hadn't done any research. It was probably just sitting there when he got to the office. I've driven one myself, a 2011 inaugural edition which was fucking awesome. Wife put the wrench in those plans. I plan on buying a Charger SRT which I also test drove which was awesome also. Any SRT you drive is awesome, Geez even the Neon was a great ride
There is some misinformation in this video. I am not sure this guy did his homework. You can get either the manual or automatic in the SRT.
he said you could
***** No, he said you cannot get the auto with the SRT8, which is what he's reviewing here.
interior wasn't great, I'll give you that. Nothing compared to the upgrade from 2015. Not sure what you see wrong with the rear tho, granted it is better today.
This is the only REAL muscle car left. The rest have turned into sport cars.
Not the best modern-muscle, but I do like how it keeps much of it's retro looks. Gotta give the exterior designer some credit.
Why Dodge decided to make this car so damn big is beyond me. My dad had a 2010 SRT8 for a couple of years, and it was pretty quick and everything, it's just way too big and way too heavy. My mom's SUV felt smaller and easier to drive. When you're not flooring it, it feels like a big sluggish boat
yes, about the touch screen because some navigation system are a bit delay.
This car is a muscle car, it's not suppose to be as luxurious as a Benz. Can we get a real test driver who's a fan of muscle cars? gee
Conroy Dennis This isn't a test drive review. It's a review of the tech in the car, hence the name "Cnet - Car Tech".
He said you can't get an automatic. What country is this review being done?
wished he talked more about the performance. This isn't a luxury sedan, it's a pony car with a massive engine. Why not talk about highway passing power and all that other stuff?
Nice to know the Car Tech series isn't in 21:9...
Yea that interior needs some serious attention. Looks the interior of a car from the 90s.
as far as the interior goes, its not meant to look luxurious or modern day...its american muscle...looks dont matter, the 1/4 mile is what counts
I agree. Challenger is by far the most sexy and badass!
I am a mustang fan but can't decide for a 2013 gt or 2013 rt both have decent amount of power but the challenger has a lot more room and seems more manageable I'm thinking of goin with the challenger.
This guy must own a garage full of electric cars 🙄
No ventilated seats is a big bummer on a product in this class.
The challenger looks bad ass
Funny that Dodge refuses to compare the SRT8 to the GT500. Dodge uses the SRT8 in marketing against the Camaro SS and Mustang GT, where it is 8000 to 12000 dollars more.
So weird how many times he says it is not available in an automatic, considering I am looking at one right now. I also wonder why he bashed the suspension but never told people about the multiple modes it has. More research needed
this guy should be paid a lot more than whatever he is getting paid. He is THAT GOOD!!!, I don't know what his current salary is, but it should be higher...
"Or you could option up to the auto with the paddles behind the wheel don't do that" instant thumbs up
This was the worst review and reviewer. More accomplished automotive folks have had a significantly more positive view of the Challenger SRT8. The car is amazing and hands down, it is superior to it's competition.
Love the style/power/features for the money.
A little too fat though.
john harker True enough...could stand to lose a few pounds...still hard to beat for the money.
Ryan Babakhani Yabbut the Boss302 is ugly and has a solid rear axle. The Challenger is waaaaaay better especially for 2015!!
colors for the preferences
My fifth review viewed today on this car. This is the first one that says the ride quality is anything but good. WTF?
Agreed, you can both stick and paddle with 5 speed automatic, paddles are future they are proven to be faster, all ferrari have them as option and Formula 1 uses paddles.
Big thinks to you
The Challenger is the best of all the modern pony cars in my opinion, and this douchebag is the WORST possible person they could have gotten to review this car. That being said, the interior really DOES need a redesign.
The gauges and seats are excellent, but the REST of the interior is terrible. It's the EXACT same interior from the Charger, and there really IS too much plastic. Plus, that radio/GPS screen is an eyesore.

I really envy you guys riding Challengers and Camaros. :`(
I miss my 392. the one I had.. but now that I'm going to mexico. I can't bring it with me...and now my 2012 mustang GT
Well it is titled "car tech" and by that basis I would assume it would be more about the "car tech" then the actual car.
What is a Genesis coupe? I think you flatter yourself, as I am not even sure what that is.
Wait, a package is called 730M?
Isn't that a GPU for laptops made by NVIDIA?
Yeah but at the end he says you have to drop to the 5.7 (R/T) to get the auto which is wrong and I think he said it another time but I don't feel like watching again
I like Molly Wood's review of this car better.
I seen this guy do a mustang and the same thing he complain about he was really liking on the stang
I'll only believe that, if it's crashed. If it's still at the dealer, you MUST be talking about the base V6 model-- or, you're lying. There will never be a top-of-the-line Challenger sold for $27,000
My only problem with this review is that he was wrong about the auto not being available for the srt8 I have an automatic on that
Congratulations on posting four year old video. You do know the 2010 and 2009 Model Years are well over right?
I don't know what this guy is saying the challenger rides way better than a camaro ss you feel like you are going to break your spine every time you hit a bum
How is the clutch on this baby? nice and smooth? how is it in traffic, the gears etc.....
Your wrong the auto is available in the srt
Both topgear and cnet r good, if u dont like it, dont watch it.
wrong wrong wrong you can get an srt8 with the 6.4 hemi in 5 speed auto horrendous ride quality? this is the first reviewer i heard say this
The “dummy” is the nerd driving
he is wrong, the back looks great in fact the original was too wide, the paddle shifters are fastr they use them in F1, im getting the automatic which will probably be 8 speeds. With a new model with super charger which will do on my own. They said they it will cut into some of it, i thnk possibly making slightly shorter and slightly thinner but i hope it still looks like this one. At first they were saing baracuda but Dodge did it right, dont change teh challenger too much. 500hp.
Maybe you should do that kind of comparison than.
Corvette Stin gray ftw !
I agree with most of this, I drive this car everyday.
