    0:43 Bluesy Hendrix: clean. master 100%, gain 12 o'clock, e.g. all 12, bit of reverb
    1:37 “Clean Megadeth": as above, add chorus
    2:14 Stonesy/Sheryl Crow: crunch, full master, eq at 12 o’clock, gain 60%, a little delay/reverb
    3:25 Classic rock: lead, full gain, master at 1o’clock, bass, middle 12 o’clock, treble 3 o’clock, a little spring (I added middle and took out bass)
    5:31 High gain, Halen, True, ’89: gain 11, master bass middle 1 o’clock, a little delay/reverb
    7:35 Modern metal, Maiden riffs: modern

      Agreed. He does an excellent job of covering all the bases and explaining it as he goes. Yamaha should use this as their promotional tutorial for this amp he did that good of a job. He's convinced me to buy one...lol

      THR is definitely the winner where practice amps are concerned. My wife bought me the THR5 a year ago. I love it. The amp is very sensitive to input. So, don't expect to get the exact tone Soren did (His mix of humbucker and P90 helped a lot). But different guitars will have their own characteristics when plugged into the THR. Just shows you how fantastic it is. Most cheap practice amps sound the same no matter which guitar you use.

    • @Overwatch93
      @Overwatch93 10 років тому +4

      Comparing instruments and amps online doesn't work. I've done that and gone into store intending to buy and walked out empty handed as what sounded great online sounded crap in person.

    This is a first class demo of the THR10 which inspired me to buy all three versions. Soren Andersen did a great job. It's important to respect everyone's view and how each spends their hard earned cash, but I'd just like to add a few thoughts.
    I've had electric guitars, amps, and all sorts of equipment over the last thirty years. The THR series amps are a heap of fun and enjoyment. I'm by no means an expert player and probably should be a lot better than I am, but what I found with the THR10 amps, particularly the cream model demo'd here, is that I had to learn how to drive it. Mine started off as a V2 model, but I struggled to get the EQ set correctly, so I was a little disappointed to start off. I changed the software to V1, but still not happy, then changed back to V2. It was only after watching this demo more closely, as well as those from Julian Ward (also very good), that it all clicked into place and I really started to enjoy playing through these amps.
    These are smokingly great amps. Using Yamaha guitars 502V, 611H (almost exact same tones as the demo, straight from the THR) and Epiphone Les Paul, the range and quality of sound from these amps and guitars is to me outstanding. The trick seems to be mostly in fine tuning the EQ to each guitar and finding the point where each guitar sounds at its best. Sounds obvious, but these amps seem sensitive to this. I found the following settings pretty good - bass @ 3 o'clock, middle @ 12 o'clock (or less), treble @ 1-2 o'clock, and guitar volume around 11-12 o'clock. These will obviously vary for each guitar. Play around with the master and gain settings to suit. The remaining effects settings are as you want them.
    Highly recommended. Just bear in mind that it may take a short amount time to learn how to get the best out of it. Even the guys in the guitar shops, as helpful as they may be, don't always demo them well. There are many great similar size amps out there, but for the quality and price ($330 in Australia) they are difficult to beat in my opinion. The ability to get such quality sounds at relatively low volumes is fantastic. There are comments regarding speaker size and whether the amp can be connected direct to a speaker cabinet. All fair enough, but it is intended to be a practice amp. When mic'd through a PA or similar it can be used as a live performance amp, as others have already tried successfully.
    It is easy to think that many UA-cam demos of the THR10 use additional equipment and software to enhance the sound, and perhaps some do, but that's until you use one that's set up to suit the guitar with just the THR.
    Hope this helps.

    I like the fact that Soren takes the time to explain each of the settings before he goes into his fantastic guitar riffs. He names the artist/group, describes the settings on the amp, then he proceeds to belt out a fantastic version on his guitar. Informative video, Yamaha should include with each THR-10 they sell.

    I've had a Yamaha THR10 for about 4 years. I bought it because I love Yamaha's dedication to excellence. They do not sell any inferior products no matter what the price, so their reputation cannot be questioned. The sounds are fabulous. I recently bought my first bass guitar and there was no need to buy another amp. Not only that, when I brought over to my friend's house to jam, it dropped his jaw! How this little thing shakes the room the way it does is beyond me, but I like it. I had a Carvin Vintage 16 before, but it was way too loud for practicing at home. I rarely got to warm the tubes if you know what I mean. The Yamaha has that "larger than possible" sound for its size. Like a Bose Wave on steroids. I play a Strat, a Sorrento and a Thunderbird bass on the same amp now. Yeah, it looks weird and is small enough to store in your glove box, but it's actually quite heavy and packed with tons of killing attitude.

    I’ve recently bought a thr10 and it’s great. But I plugged it into my laptop to see what adjustments I could make and the noise gate and compressor make it a fantastic amp. Plus you can adjust everything and save all the settings too. If you have one, make sure you hook it up to your computer. What a difference.

      indeed..i have mine now for about 6 months, and every day i manage to squeezy some different sounds out of it, and yes, it DOES have that organic connection to the guitar like a tube amp does..it reacts beautifuly to the volume and tone knobs, all the sound modells are very authentic and usable, and unlike other modeling/digital amps out there, the THR actually CAN show you the difference in sound from different guitars..on other modeling amps it makes almost no difference at all if you stick a les paul or a strat to it, it always sounds the same, but the THR really puts the difference out there, its amazing...on the yamaha editor software you even get some more options that are not on the top of the amp itself, like 2 more reverbs (on the amp itself you get spring and hall, on the editor you can also use a room reverb and my favorite: a plate reverb which sounds great), you also get 2 types of compressors, a noise gate, and most importantly: 6 (!) different cabinet simulators: a 2x12 american, a 4x12 american, a 2x12 british, a 4x12 british, a 1x12 and a 4x10..and they change the sound so much that they almost work as different amps, almost like a 5 times 6 amps..

    This was recorded using THR10 direct to Cubase via USB. The guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica 611. There is no extra processing, so this tone is easily accessible - but of course a big part of the tone is Soren's playing. And for Slash-type tones, THR10X would probably be best.

    Very nice demo but a pitty that the sound you hear in the video is not coming through the THR10 speakers :-)
    Also, a lot of good tips on what settings to use on the amp, but why don't they show this clear or with a pdf to download? So that one can copy exactly the same settings and compare their own guitar? These two things would have made the demo video perfect.

    • @promixing7714
      @promixing7714 9 років тому +2

      Yeah, I was thinking the same thing man. It's obvious that the sound is going to a direct in board, or camera, etc.
      I'm wanting one of these but I don't like it when they post something misleading like this to lure some folks that don't know the sound has been run thru a board/mixer, etc.

    • @yamahagtrdevelopment
      @yamahagtrdevelopment 9 років тому +13

      Pro Mixing The video was recorded direct from the THR10 to a hard disc recorder, with no FX or processing - so if you play it back through a THR10, you'll hear what it sounded like in the room. No trickery involved...
      If it was just mic'd by the camera, you still wouldn't get a fair representation of the actual tone because you'd be hearing the characteristics of the (cheap and optimised for voice) mic and the weird sound that its directionality (which, as you know, is totally different to your ears) brings. You're hearing the THR10 and nothing else - so play it back through headphones and you'll hear what you'd hear if your phones were plugged into the THR...

    • @julianward8493
      @julianward8493 9 років тому +7

      ***** The main idea was so that if you played it back through a THR or headphones, it would sound the same as if you were hearing it direct from Soren's THR. We were trying to limit the amount of things that change the sound of the demo - so the chain is, effectively, just the THR and whatever speakers you're using. If it were THR> THR speakers> mic> mic pre> your speakers there's a lot more coloration in there. And I'm sure I'd have had lots of comments about people complaining that 'it only sounds like that because they mic'd it with a *** mic'. There's no perfect way to do video demos on UA-cam, but this still seems like a fair demo. After all, you can A/B it with other demos without having to take into account a huge chain of gear making a big difference. If you want to hear a mic'd THR, check out the Philip Sayce video...

    For all the amps I own this is still one of my faves. 10c. I do wish it had a foot switch controller at least for some of the stuff.

    I just got mine and it is already obvious that this is miles ahead of the Line 6 that I used to own.

    I would absolutely love to have these VCM algos in the CL console I'm getting as soon as they hit the market. For work with amateur guitarists it could improve things a lot! But I could also imagine it being used even in some professional settings. Either way, you have to get these tones into a more professional/tour grade version, because the tones are fantastic! They deserve more than being a desktop-thing!

    👏Nicely done. Would have liked to see a graphic of the settings you used. Couldn't write them all down as you went along. Dude, you kick ass! But I'm sure you know that. I'm inspired. Rock on!

    There's no plan to make a trem version of the 611 at the moment, but it's something that may come at a later date. This guitar is actually just a 510V routed to take the neck P90.

      Hi Diane, I just read your post about the Supreme video You can't hurry love. You said this was so good I'm gonna watch it again. Did you notice in the video at the beginning they are all side by side. Than Flo kept moving up further and further away from the other 2. I wonder if Flo was saying to herself, Ross your not getting the spotlight tonight. Flo was the tallest of the three, but did you notice at the end of the video how Flo's head looked huge. I wonder if they altered the video somehow to make it look like they were standing side by side at the end of the video.

    @Headwylde The THR in this video was recorded direct from the headphone output to hard disk and just synced to the video - there is no EQ, effects or dynamics processing at all, just some gain adjustments to attempt to keep it level. Of course, the disclaimer is that the sound is part the amp, part the guitar and a big part the player - but this is a genuine, no-tricks audio recording of THR10. I'm really happy with the sound, but there is no post-work to get it like that. - Julian

    Don't be so hopefull by the amp. The thing that is really rocking there is Soren Andersen. This guy is amazing. He could sound good with an ukulele.

    The whole thing was shot on a pair of D3100s - the fixed one using a Sigma 10-20mm lens, the moving one is a Nikon 28-70 f2.8.

    It's actually a 510V with the hardware from a 611HFM and a neck rout added for the P90. It was done as a custom for Soren before 611V was available...

    One reason I think I still prefer the Roland micro cube over this, is going from its Marshall to Boogielike 'high gain' is a radical change in tone. Like you would expect between the two. Here, the high gain setting sound pretty much like the Marshall setting, just with more gain. If you've played the two, you might recognize what I'm talking about

    Great sounds and great playing. Please bring those Pacificas to the US, this one is gorgeous! I have four early-90s Pacificas already (512 / 521 / 1221 / 1230S) and they are all killer, but I'd happily add this one to the collection!
