    Fantastic - Thank you very much. I came across to this from another (abbreviated) video, for which I agreed with others (and you) that there were steps missing. I watched this one step-by-step while doing my own pullcord repair and it reflected it perfectly. (Note - I had trouble removing the split washer (and replacing it again - perhaps I should have bought a new one).
    Anyway, this video got my through the process A to Z. Thank you.

    No matter what I try.....I can't get the torx screw off that holds the clutch drum on. This one I'm working on is a Craftsman.....but as you know it's the same. My screw is a T30 and it looks as if someone may have messed it up.

      @SHONEY21Z  2 місяці тому

      That’s a tough one. Stripping that screw is a major ordeal. I would search Amazon/harbor freight or anywhere you can think of for a long skinny stripped bolt extractor. Another option I’ve seen ppl try is hammer a flathead into the bolt head to try and make new groove and turn it that way. I’ve also seen this done with a slightly larger torx T-handle

    Aye so the notch that the string is supposed to lock into.
    How does that work? It would leave the string hanging off the side a little and cause it to get caught, would it not? Im confused.

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z  Рік тому

      At 16:45, you can see this being done, sort of. With the string fully extended and no tension on the spring, pull the string inward toward the pulley and make a loop. Hook the string into the notch and start turning the pulley clockwise. About 5/6 turns at most. (Depending on the length of your string) then pull the pull cord handle out so there’s no more loop and the n allow the pulley to retract the pull cord.

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z  5 місяців тому

      Is everything together but the cord all the way out? If so then you are ready to start winding up the spring. Pull the cord out from the inside of the cover. There’s a groove in the white pulley, lock the cord in that groove and start winding the pulley clockwise about 5-6 times. Then let go of the pulley and it should retract the cord

      @@SHONEY21Z Thank you! I appreciate the video and the prompt reply to my query. I bought a set of long-handled torx wrenches at amazon and it includes the necessary size. My weed whacker is not the same model as yours, but it is very similar and your video helped me muddle through the project. I pulled the thing apart, put new line on, wound it up, etc. etc. It retracts nicely in its plastic housing until I reattach it to the weed whacker and pull the cord against the resistance of trying to turn the piston. Now when I pull the cord, it is not engaging the engine. It just makes a ratchet-sounding noise like it is slipping; clearly it won't start the engine this way. Any ideas? Might the part that catches the engine be worn out? I can't see that it is, but I don't have a lot of experience at this. Thanks.

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z  5 місяців тому

      Hmm. It’s probably just very tight. It’s scary to turn but as long as the t15 is seated well and a lot of downforce it shouldn’t strip. It takes a lot of force to crack the bolt but then it comes out easy. A long t15 bit on an impact would probably break it open easier but if it slips it strips. That’s my best suggestion just to use the handle and turn pretty hard with down pressure. Hard to hold the head and the tool at the same time but it should loosen.
