Welcome back young man, thanks for the troubleshooting video. I’ve just repaired a mountfield like yours. The owner had tipped it on its side to clean underneath and the petrol was black with oil. carb and tank clean job done. Started repairing after watching your earlier videos thanks 👍
Couldn’t find any decent videos in German..! After a while I found your videos which helped me a lot 😀 Thanks for that and keep up the good work 👍🏻 Greetings from Germany, Michael
Hi, glad to find an up to date video, Ive watched your videos from way back when, in the last 3 months, since my neighbour said his mower was broke and he was getting a new one. I asked what he was doing with the old one, he said it was for the scrap man, so I said I would have it. Thats when I came on UA-cam and found your videos (thankfully). Its a Qualcast with the Briggs & Stratton engine, so, after watching your video on changing the diaphragm & gasket, then about the Govenor springs, I put the new diaphragm & gasket, changed the govenor springs, new fuel, new oil, it started on the 3rd pull. I was hooked, I fetched our grandsons from their mothers, at the gate was an Einhell petrol mower, after asking why it was there, again, for the scrap man, she said it wouldnt start, I asked if I could have it she said yes, when I got it home, I started at the beginning, pull the deadman, listen for the micro switch, no sound of the switch making/breaking the circuit, I looked & noticed the lever wasnt lifting the arm high enough to make/break the contact, I bent the lever up slightly, contact made/broken, although I didnt know how old the fuel was, the oil was clear & up to the level, so it hadnt done much work, a couple of pulls & it started, brilliant. So, with someone without any mechanical knowhow, after watching a few of your videos, 2 non working mowers now both work perfectly well. So, I would like to say a big thank you for sharing your knowledge & all those viewers of yours, give it a go, if its broke, have a go at fixing it, iif it doesnt go when youve tried, at least you had a go & it was broke anyway. Sorry Ive drooled on but as I said, I wanted to thank you for sharing & please keep the videos coming. Ive subscribed & always give a thumbs up.
Thanks a lot for the really informative video. I had serviced my engine but it still wouldn't start. Your advice regarding the kill switch was the key. Adjusted wire till pad was lifting clear and away it went. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to help duck eggs like me!
Thank you. I have watched quite a lot of videos to learn about maintaining this type of engines from different creators, and your video is clearly one of the best. Clear, focussed, good audio and video... I will be happy to watch more.
Hi Paul! Just watched this video and have watched a few in the past. A google search has just thrown up your "Thank you and Goodbye" video from 3 years ago! I've got a Flymo mower with a B&S classic 3.5 engine, and although I serviced it last year, it's still a total Pig to start from cold. Awaiting a new set of govenor springs as the old ones are very rusty, and will go through all of the points you mentioned. Curious to know why, when I expand your description, UA-cam comes up with a "Mower Man" photo of a guy in my area! Thought you might be local but now know different. Thanks for the vids - stay safe & well. 👍👍
Thanks for the list of possible problems. My mower quit running while mowing and I couldn't figure out why. I've rigged a separate kill switch. To do this required me to disable the grip handle kill setup. I wired the piece that kills the ignition back. The last time I was mowing, the piece I had holding the pivot piece back broke and fell off. I hadn't thought to check that. Your list reminded me and sure enough, there was the problem. Got it held back again and it started on the first pull.
Paul Great video mate lots of useful tips easy to understand saving us money on a 2 stroke mower is ghe engine oil the same to add to the fuel mix Phil in stoke 😂
Hi Ive just inherited a mower with this same motor which was running fine but now cuts out after about 4 to 15 seconds after starting... It is an old and dirty machine that needs some love so after watching a few videos and setting to stripping off the tank and draining the oil to get to the cooling fins the tank doesn't come free of the manifold and the manifold pulls out about 2 inches or so any advice would be appreciated as i didnt want to pull it too hard and break something internal. Cheers for the content your videos have been a tremendous help so far.
Hi so pleased to see you have returned, would you be able to offer me your advice and guidance ? I own a Mountfield SP485 HW V I am not happy with the performance of the existing mulching blade it does not cut well and I don't want to have to mow my grass several times to shorten it down each time I cut the lawn just to get the blade to work, also the grass pick up into the basket is not very effective. I would like to replace it with a normal cutting blade ! from what I can gather there is not an option for me to be able to do this ! which I find hard to believe can you help or will I have to replace my mower ? Thx
Ta very much, the black and white washer tip appears to have solved my problem. Quick one, what's best way to tip mower to get access underneath to clean blades and not upset oil or petrol?
Hiya, thanks for all your video, a few years ago I watched one and was able to service my own mower from that, but now I seem to have the revving problem, its a mountfield SP530 with a briggs and stratton , is there any advice you can give me please, also when I used the last of my oil, I threw the old bottle away, and now I cant remember if it was 2stroke or 4 stroke I used, thanks for any advice you can give , also will the governor spring you have the link for fit my mower many thanks regards Suzy
Hi could you please help me with a minor problem, I have Mc Cullock M46-125 the push handle which connects to the chassis the left handle is very loose i need to tighten it. To do this i have to remove the inner plastic discharge chute , i have removed 5 bolts but it still wont come out there is something else or another bolt which prevents me from removing the chute. thanks if you can help
Hello there! About to try to get into this kind of business where I've found a £20 McCulloch Mower with a Briggs 35 Classic on it, so if you don't mind, I have a few questions. Is buying non genuine parts like foam air filters, governer springs, diaphragms, gaskets and so on OK? And do you have any other tips for starting off? Many thanks! 😊
Hi MowerMan, Great video, I have also used your video on the diaphragm service and it was wonderful. I bought a second hand mower around 12 months ago and I haven't serviced it ever, on the first 10-20 seconds of start up after replacing the diaphragm, spark plug and air filter, it does the hesitant high rpm > low rpm cycle and then levels out to a consistent speed and mows fine. Could this happen as a result of lack of oil change? (P.S I am popping down tomorrow to get some fresh oil and petrol for it) Cheers!
Mowerman. I need some help with a mower. It's a husqvarna lgt48dxl with a kholer 7000 series 25hp. As soon as I start the mower it sounds like it is going to explode with how high the rpms are. I replaced all the springs in the linkage and installed a new governor, cleaned the carb. Set the govern and still no change. I'm at a loss. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
you said the black plastic attached to the spring, should move right and left, the bit plastic in front stops from going further, this is unclear 'to go further'', thanks
What do you think ? mine was working fine until I refill after moweing and started to loose power, until it stopped and no power and surge I changed to fresh fuel and it is still the same, thanks
Good to see you back on. A stupid thing that I did 2 years ago was to get some fuel in a proper can from a garage filled the mower and it would not start, eventually after stripping it all down I realised it smelled wrong, I had bought diesel. Now beware not all diesel pump pipes are black, the super diesel was green like the petrol one. Had it been the car it wouldn't have fitted but it did in the can
The screw for my filter cannister does NOT tighten into anything--- just spins and with motor vibration, the filter flopps around and is NOT doing what it should. I have gotten New screw and still doesn't tighten into anything. I have tried to make sure that the screw hole is NOT plugged with debris, and it doesn't seem to be the issue... Any advice?
In England go you have e20 gasoline. You need to use stable with your gasoline. I use 85 octane aviation gasoline the faa forbid ethanol in aircraft engines
15:54 this is what happened to my triangle but it was turned 180 degrees in the opposite direction. I couldn't stop it from having a very high idle until I noticed it and now is running perfectly.
Good to see you back, greetings from Northern Ireland
Thanks Ronald!

I really like your videos but this one repeats itself at the beginning and side tracked with biscuits pressure jetters so I didn’t finish it.
Thanks for the feedback
"sometimes called the magneto" not sure who does that, the magneto is part of the flywheel, not the coil
Paul is correct in that the flywheel is part of the magneto
