Thanks for this video! I followed this and stripped my RS100 yesterday that had been outside for a while, cover had blown off, old fuel and wouldn't start at all - dead! Thanks Mower Man, just watched this video and managed to HP414 back up and running. The stainless bush on air filter housing even fell out exactly as it did during the video. My issues were mouse related, little darling had chewed the hose from the primer bulb. Managed to replace it with a pipe I had left over from a strimmer repair. Your video gave me the confidence to remove the carb and clean all that down at the same time. Buying an equivalent SP Mower in B&Q today would be £250, so you have saved me a fortune. Much appreciated.

Hi ya mate. I appreciated your tutorial video so much that the least I can do is give yourself and any future viewers an update..?
I take my hat off to ya mate...🙌👏. I got straight home from work today and followed each step of this video again to strip, clean and rebuild the carburetor. I wouldn't have achieved this without your help. The job was a complete success in just one attempt. Everything you said and did in this video is absolutely spot on. There was lots of gunk in the carb and even some rusty water in the bowl. Cleaned and scrubbed everything,...removed the jets and unblocked the clogged holes etc. Bolted everything back onto the mower,......kept pumping the primer bulb until I saw petrol squirt out in the carb,......and on the 2nd pull it fired up and purred like a kitten again...!! Unbelievable. I'm really chuffed mate. I mowed the back lawn as a tester to make sure I'd got everything right. It hasn't run this smooth since the day I bought it from new. And that's no exaggeration!
*FOR ANYONE WITH A MOUNTFIELD CARBURETOR PROBLEM WHO IS SCROLLING THROUGH THESE COMMENTS WONDERING IF THIS VIDEO IS WORTH WATCHING..? THE ANSWER IS A BIG 'YES'. WATCH AND FOLLOW THE EASY TO UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS VIDEO, AND I GUARANTEE YOU ALL 100% THAT YOUR MOWER WILL BE UP AND RUNNING LIKE NEW IN NO TIME AT ALL* 🤝👌💪👍😊

👏👏👏.....cheers for this mate. Nice one. I've had my mountfield RS 100 for about 3 yrs now. I bought it from new. But for the first time in 3yrs it wouldn't start. Eventually I managed to fire it up but it wouldn't tick over and kept conking out..? I re fueled it with fresh premium petrol,...cleaned the spark plug and tested for a spark. All good. But it didn't fix the problem. I checked the fuel was reaching the carb, and I checked the primer bulb was working. All good. But it still didn't fix the problem. My mate said it sounded like it was something to do with the carb..? I got as far as removing the air filter box and the top cowling etc, but I couldn't work out how to remove the carb cos of that long thin spring and the linkage. I've never taken a carb apart in my life before, but after watching your superb tutorial video this evening I can't wait until I get home from work tomorrow and go out into the garden with my tools and my tablet to watch this video again as I follow you each step of the way. I was not confident at all about attempting to strip and clean the carb cos I've never done anything like this in my life. But I'm really happy and confident after searching UA-cam for ...
    "Mountfield RS 100 won't start" ....
And seeing your video at the top of the league. You certainly know your stuff mate, and the way you have presented this tutorial is so easy to take everything onboard and understand exactly what to do cos you haven't gone into any confusing technical rubbish that I don't need to know. Short ,...sweet,...and straight to the point. Excellent stuff. I've now subscribed to your channel mate. Well done, and thankyou very much. 👌👏👏👏🤝🤝🤝😊👍

Did the carb cleanup as shown and still hunting found out I had replaced in line filter with home brew motor Bike filter which I had pinched too tight with hose clamp and flow rate was real low . turned out it just ran for the full bowl then cut out , then of course bowl would fill again and run for another 5 minutes. @@andylees8735 not yet, it's on my list of jobs to do! I inadvertently ordered the same style carb but with a choke butterfly which wasn't obvious in the photos - oops - the casting seems to be identical as do the jets etc, but there appears to be an extra screw for adjusting something (high speed mix maybe?) which is blocked off on the old one. I was going to try to mix and match the jets, seals etc and move them over to the original to see if that worked, then worst case try to use the new one as it is...fortunately I was then offered another mower to get the jungle under control, again with a carb issue 🤦‍♂ which I managed to get going by jamming the throttle open with a stick once I'd cleaned it 😁

@@Umski Out of sheer frustration, I've taken the fuel filter off and redlined it best I could for a few minutes and now it will run independent. Mine seems fine now its warm and I think the fuel filter might not have been helping. I'll have to get a new one.

I realised it was just conking out due to the governor closing the throttle so I tried jamming it open which seemed to do the trick - I adjusted the idle screw where it's now running a fastish speed which prevents it spluttering out - it seems to run fine otherwise albeit sounds a little lethargic if it's loaded - I don't think it was the jet after all but didn't want to take it all apart to check again! So I've left it as is and did a few jobs - such a joy to use compared to the old heavy steel decked 18" one I had and even the other steely! That said it seems to clog up more easily on longer stuff and the grass collector is a little on the small side for me! Then just to annoy me I filled it up this morning and it started leaking under the fuel tank 🤦‍♂ - I found the filter as a result though - just need some new fuel pipe now!

I have that model, you can get the sparkplug cap off without removing the top, it's probably easier while not holding a camera. its the fuel line stopping you get the carb off the studs.

Hi. I followed your video and cleaned the carb out along with checking fuel line. spark plug and fully emptying petrol tank. I'd got some oil mixed in with the petrol previously and it wouldn't start. Now it is starting but only runs very briefly before cutting out again. Could there be another blockage elsewhere?

Great video Mower Man. I have a Mountfield 414, stripped it and cleaned it with carb spray, put it all back together again, and it is still surging and hunting. Am I missing something? Checked the spark plug with multimeter, all fine, plus checked the ignition coil with multimeter, all fine there too. Bulb was pressing fine, no leaks and whilst stripping the carb down I could see the petrol seeping out when bulb was pressed. Any other suggestions?

Great Video. i have same Mower got it for £15.00 from car boot sale in Feb. Came with a spare carb as well the only problem i have it runs uneven, hunts and surges. I suspect carb needs a good clean the jet screw in the spare carb will not budge either, obviously previous owner just swapped carbs then left it full of old fuel over the winter again also looks like the air filter has seen better days.

Hi there. Thanks for your great video! I've just got myself a secondhand HP414 which I was told was misfiring. It's missing the air filter and cover. I went to try to start it today and it caught fire at the hole where you can see the primer pumping fuel. What could be the cause of this? Some kind of seal or too much fuel in that hole? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

what in fact is holding the carb on is the fuel pipe from the tank, squeeze the clip on the carb end and ease it off. You can then ease the carb off the studs and flick the thin spring off and then the rod. Top tip, be careful with the pipe as they do go hard and will break ease it off with a flat bladed screwdriver.

    • @Voice-Actor
      @Voice-Actor 11 місяців тому

Precisely. I serviced my Sp414 this weekend. Just disconnecting the pipe on the right of the carb. will ease removal of it. The collar that fell off is to locate the inlet gasket properly. The collar floats and goes on the carb first, not in the plastic cover.

Great video as always mate. I’m having real trouble with my mountfield mower and it’s starting to drive me mad - I’ve got no spark. I’ve replaced the plug, the coil and adjusted the gap between the coil and the flywheel. Could it be the the little electronic kill switch The is engaged by the leaver on the handle?
Before I realised there was no spark, I cleaned the carburettor and fuel lines 😫
