Started at 33 being a musician already, but in another instrument, and felt exactly what he said: I could practice smarter and enjoy a difference of growth from my first one.
I started learning drums 2 and a half years ago, at age 33. It completely changed my life and is now my main instrument. I know I'm late to the game, but I'm completely dedicated to seeing where this takes me. Thanks for the wise words, Mike.
at a certain point, the time you have invested in your craft is uniquely yours and cannot be taken away from you. The point in the full drumtalk where Mike candidly says he wasn't growing as tall as his other hockey playing schoolmates was very poignant and revealing to me. From that point he stopped pursuing hockey seriously and put his energy into drums, playing for many hours a day after school. No one can take that time away from him.
I started when I retired at 61. Never too late.

Maybe too late if you want to do it as a job or something, but for just the joy of playing it is never too late.
