another top water you might want to try is the MirrOlure Top Prop... but it has two propellers, one of the front and one on the back... I like to remove the propeller on the front.. so when you pause, the tail of the lure sinks.. and I think that helps with more successful hook ups... and this lure is a lot less labor intensive as walking the dog from a seated position (just an idea to check out).. its a ....rip, pause (reel up slack in the line)....rip, pause... repeat... changing tempo at will, of course
Thanks for the tip Sean. Another subscriber, Fran, mentioned that he uses the same MirrOProp lure and takes the front propeller off too. It's definitely on my todo list.

Kayak Fishing Addict when your heading back in or heading to the hole throw the 27 behind u make sure u throw enough out so it sinks and forget about it. I catch so many fish that way.
Nice vid my man. Happened to come across your channel and loved it. That she dog sound is therapeutic!! I fish down here in the Mississippi gulf coast, and was curious is there a certain color that produces more than others? I personally throw the all chartreuse. Thanks man I’ll wait for your reply
Hi Eddie. Nice to meet you virtually. Thanks for watching and commenting! I've never fished your waters, but the honest answer about color choice in topwater lures is that, in practice, it typically doesn't matter.... please let me explain. I have two colors of this same lure - the one you see which is light colored and I also have a dark one albeit it has a chrome belly. Both get smashed! I honestly think they go after the sound and the action happening overhead, at least in the dark water that I've been fishing lately. That said, there is a theory that says darker colors tend to work better. The reason is the same that you hear about using dark color lures in dark water. Since we typically throw topwater on overcast days in lower light conditions with calm water conditions, the theory says that a fish looks up to see the lure thus you want something to stand out against the darker gray sky. Thus darker lures against that sky are favored. However, if that were the case, why would any manufacturer ever make lighter color lures? The answer? Because they work too! Don't get me wrong, I subscribe to using darker lures in darker water, I'm just not as convinced with topwater color choices. Remember, sound and action are also sensed by fish and in a topwater I believe those dominate. BTW, I also subscribe to the fact that most lures are designed to catch the fisherman as opposed to the fish!
Kayak Fishing Addict unfortunately I cannot see your entire comment on top water lure color. For some reason it cuts off on my end. Does color make a difference? Thanks for replying back. 👍🏼💪🏼
Way to go bud. Can’t beat the action on the top water bite. Absolutely loved the video. Editing was amazing and the addition of the drone shots was awesome.
No I don't. My truck bed is 6' with the gate down it's 8' and the kayak is 12' so it sticks out 4'. I secure it with two straps to the carabiner clip I have attached to the padeye on the nose of the kayak. I put a dog leash on that same carabiner as a stand up assist strap. And I also have my red tow flag attached to that same carabiner; you need the tow flag to be legal. You can see both of those in my videos as they are always attached to my kayak. Using the hooks in my truck bed on either side of the gate I tie to that same carabiner. No dents, creases in the kayak at all from securing it this way. If I had a 16' kayak I would definitely need an extender. And If I had a short bed (4') truck I would probably need an extender.
You've got a keen eye....this was my first outing with them. I cut out the piece of the video where I discuss that (1) I love KastKing, but (2) they don't last an entire year....the great news is that they stand behind their warranty, (3) but the problem is their durability. So I'm trying out the Lew's Custom Inshore series of reels after looking at lot's of reviews. The first outing was absolutely fantastic with them. I'm going to keep going with them and do a proper review later...but so far so good.
Try mirrOlure 16MR -CH, 16MR- MULLET, smaller profile easier for fish to get in mouth. I would change hooks to black nickel 4x strong size 4 on the 16MR. How many times have you snagged your rod on a back cast?
Those look like the Lew's Custom Inshore reels. Yes? If so, how are they? And what rod length/power/action are you using with them? I'd like to try a Medium/MF in 7 feet as my standard dog walking rod.
Yes, you've got a good eye. They're good as long as you go through the maintenance of them! I don't rinse them with fresh water anymore as I've rusted a few out. I do take them apart, degrease, clean, and oil and lube them monthly. If that's too much work....and it is a lot....then I'd recommend the custom lite series. Take a look at my gear.KayakFishingAddict.com page for the exact gear I use.
@@KayakFishingAddict wow… really? And this it supposed to be their “inshore” series? That is disappointing. My first stop after every trip is the hose in the backyard.
@@Redreefmedia Totally understand. Now YMMV as I'm in Florida and fish frequently. When you fish saltwater a lot you must clean a lot. I used to hose them down after every trip. I never opened them and I let them drip dry. After sending them in (~10 months of use) for servicing the reverse bearing was blown and they had rusted on the inside. I spoke with the head of the service department at Lew's and they suggested the monthly maintenance routine I described. It was my idea to avoid the freshwater though. But since I've been cleaning them monthly I haven't had an issue.
@@KayakFishingAddict Yep, I hear that. I’m in South Florida, so I understand the value of salt water capable equipment. In fact I’m in the process of changing over my gear to those that are more salt capable, because I never know if I’m going to be fishing salt, brackish or the bass ponds from day to day. However, I’m not a kayak person so they don’t get dunked. Is that part of the problem? Are there other brands that I can use with more confidence in the saltwater game that you recommend? And on top of all that, I prefer to find a reel that wasn’t built in China! Even Korea and Japan are fine, just not China. I also I’m trying to switch over from right hand to left-handed retrieve for the sake of efficiency with casting. I know it sounds strange, but I noticed that if I’m walking the dog with a right hand casting reel, it doesn’t feel right. Thanks.
@@Redreefmedia So far, and I've been through several manufacturers, Lew's is the best and the custom inshore is the best I've found. My recommendation though is the Custom Lite series. As for dunking, I've only ever dunked one reel but I've rusted out two from Lew's. I also hear you on the left handed reel.... I'm right handed but I use a left handed reel for efficiency. Honestly, I think they should swap the labels ... IMHO left handed reels are for right handers and right handed reels are for left handers....but we buy the reel based on our left or right handedness because of how the industry has decided to label them. We all cast 99% of the time with our major hand because we have to use a throwing motion.... it's like baseball, you throw with your major hand and catch with your minor hand. Reeling is catching in baseball, casting is throwing....but I digress and I'll get off my soapbox. I'm not sure where the Lew's Custom Lite is made but that reel has a good reputation for holding up in salt without all of the maintenance.

Hi Curt. Thanks for watching and subscribing and for the question! Honestly, I don't remember. I tend to do a lot of research on the web. I think perhaps I saw another UA-camr using one and it went on my list. I tend to make requirements lists and I do remember that I had one constraint...it had to fit in the rear well of my first kayak (a pescador pro 100) and I intended to put fish in it with ice blocks so I wanted it as large as possible. I looked at Igloo, Yeti, and others and decided upon the Engel. It's worked out great thus far. It is a dry box that can be used as a cooler, versus a cooler though...that's good to remember....so if I were doing overnight camping and needed a cooler to keep ice for 3+ days of fishing I'd look elsewhere.
Curt, I use the 30qt Engel (the one with the 4 rod holders) and it's a perfect fit for my outback. As Ron said before if you are just day tripping and not going out for a couple of days, it will hold ice just fine. - Mike

Hi Curt. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Honestly, for inshore, I tend to get what's on sale in the 10-30lb braid range.
