    When Paul Brown first started making these baits in his garage I could drive 20 miles and buy them directly from him in his garage and now Mirrolure owns the patent , my how things have changed !

      Yup. Been to Paul & Phylis' home many many times to pick up a few. Definitely one of the most difficult lures to find back then if you didn’t know the right people.

    In the flats of Texas, bending the nose and tail down are critical.

    great lure! i fish tx gulf and it is great when walk the dog action but you must bend the nose down and tail. i would use a loop knot.

    Over the last few years the Paul Browns have become more popular here in South Eastern NC, I love 'em and they are always in my box when I go out, especially in the winter. I fish them just like they are out of the package and have had some great catches with them.

    I started using them last year and have had good success with them. Mainly speckled trout.

    Got a Fatboy for Christmas and fished New Years Day and got a 21 1/2” trout 3 1/2 lbs. Good start and I was probably not finessing the retrieve optimally.

    Looking to try some PB lures. They look bigger then most of my soft plastics but smaller then my topwaters. What rod do you recommend?

    Nice tutorial! What size Paul Brown do you use and is it the original suspending one or sinking one?

    • @johnkarges8829
      @johnkarges8829 2 роки тому

      The Original Corky is slow sinking, unless you have one with a red gill slash, that’s called a floater but it also
      sinks but just a slow sink rate

    I know this is late but I am subscribed. My question for is, do you fish the paul brown devil the same way? I enjoy watching your material especially that I am on my way back to the Hampton Roads area.

      @johnkarges8829 2 роки тому

      The Devil sinks pretty fast so I do a faster twitch twitch pause retrieve and it is effective in warmer waters.

      Yeah, I’m from the Texas market and while we absolutely honor Paul Brown and his inventions, most of us call them Corkies, both the Original and the Fat Boy. 😊

    Are top waters supposed to float??? The paul brown fat boys i bought sink. As a result they got caught on the rocks and I lost it on the second cast. 10 bucks man.

    Jeff I really love most of your video's but you really stated some false statements about the Paul brown. When you get the nose and tail bent just right it will walk the dog sub surface instead of erratic and the bait sinks a lot slower than the 17s and 27s. Not trying to say there is only one right way to fish it but amateur fisherman who is watching the tutorial should be given the facts about the product you are promoting.

      Also, if one bends the tail to the side, it will helicopter. The counsel is to keep the lure absolutely straight along the seam when bending the nose and/or tail down for the best action and best chance of strikes. Redfish and bigger trout will hit it so hard, they’ll bend the lure to the side and it needs to be checked for alignment after a fish is unhooked.
