    ** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
    Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    11:27 - boof
    austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
    Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
    See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
    Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
    Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
    ** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
    Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
    Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
    It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
    ** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
    Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
    The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
    ** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
    There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
    Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
    There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
    Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

    Appreciate all the great videos. I've learned so much and look forward to more reviews and often like the frankenwhisk(e)y experiments you guys pull off in the vault, even though this one didn't pan out ( only says how complex the art of blending can be).
    I love the Daniel stories and enjoy the crazy antics; but especially when they're well balanced, because both complement each other so well that keeps us engaged. Keep the awesome work going!
    I started my whisky journey from a few years ago only from the most common/ popular blends ( Chivas, J. Walker) until I was gifted Nikka by my wife once we moved to Dallas... ever since I've read up on whisky and your videos have guided me through better and different complexities of whisky -Laugavulin, Laphroaig, Coal Ila, and just recently acquired the Sir R. Patterson's Shackleton blend which I really enjoyed-.
    I've discovered a universe of flavors that I used to only get from gin (10 years ago I started to create my own gin from at home I) I feel it only prepared me and proved all the more useful in my appreciation of whisky.
    I've watched your videos for a while now and only just wanted to thank you and hope I am one day able to attend one of your courses.
    For everything... Thank you, you magnificent bastards!

    the term is astringent. grapefruit has an astringent finish in the mouth.

    • @PhatTrumpet2
      @PhatTrumpet2 5 років тому

      You're not wrong, but I would associate astringency more with a tannin dryness on the palate as opposed to grapefruit's bitter, slightly sweet tartness. If you're referring to the rind/pith then I'd agree, but at the same time that could apply to any citrus fruit, not just grapefruit.

    October 9th, 2012, I had the misfortune of finding my father deceased in his apartment. It is an experience that still haunts me to this day, but the thing that stuck out most, is the emptiness in his eyes. Seeing the difference in his eyes, that has been the most compelling evidence to me that we as humans do in fact contain some sort of soul. Whether it be a religious thing, or just our consciousness, whatever it was, it wasn't there anymore and it was haunting.
    I bring that up because you could see the dimming of the consciousness of Rex, as if he has died a little inside, and one can only assume it's because he was denied his Ardbeg. I wish the affliction that Rex suffered from right now could be fixed with something as simple as more cowbell, but alas, it's clear what ails him is the dying of his soul and the only cure is a pour of the Ardbeg that was denied and caused this.
    DANIEL WHITTINGTON - Not only for Rex, but for yourself, I implore you to help cure Rex because I don't think your gentle soul could withstand the crushing weight of causing the loss of life of another man. So for Rex, for the pweeble, and for yourself, GIVE THE MAN THE ARDBEG.

    It's been said on this site in a few episodes that a half empty bottle is losing its strength, and therefore some flavor, through evaporation within the bottle. Now if this expensive half full bottle has been nursed for, I think it was,four years it must not taste as quite as good as it once did. If you will not give the dark mooch the whisk(e)y he pleases, give him something that will quench his unsettled appetite for Ardbeg 1815. Possibly something by someone who owns Ardbeg, something "rare" a Glenmorangie Signet if you have it may do the trick.

    • @thehellfirewolf13
      @thehellfirewolf13 4 роки тому

      Not an expert, but i'm pretty sure that's from higher oil or sugar content, depending. Higher end USUALLY mean older and/or higher proof (usually cask strength). Less water to dilute the oils or sugars.

    • @AlphaOneActual
      @AlphaOneActual 4 роки тому

      Oiliness in whiskies comes from fatty esters & congeners that form during distillation due to being an azeotropic solution. Oily whisky doesn’t denote quality at all, just that that particular whisky was most likely copper pot distilled, and non chill filtered.
