    I am definitely no pro at loading and unloading equipment but why wouldn't you drive the skid steer up backwards in case it tried to tip, the bucket would save you.. anyways great video.. cheers

      It does work better loading backwards. Basically was just showing the difficulty of loading frontwards with those big angle iron pieces welded onto the ramps.

    I'll tel you what, that looks like fun. I often thought about buying a skid steer just to play with but I dont know that I have enough to do it as a business. So much respect for that. I wonder if it would not be easier to back the skid steer onto the trailer? The rails seem a bit aggressive but not much different than my iron bull. I have the same issue with my tractor. I dont know why but I like these videos.....definitely gives me some ideas on my own driveway. Thanks for the video.

      Hey Ron, Diesel definitely doesn’t like it, he keeps looking at the scale house for those treats. I guess I’m getting use to it or I guess I just have too. It’s a bit inconvenient at times having to call them in Chattanooga on each load but that’s what they decided they needed to do.

    Enjoyed it Sam! We can only haul 20K per axle here in Colorado. What is the per axle limit in TN?

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  7 місяців тому

      In TN dump trucks, by state law, are considered self unloading vehicles and are treated differently than other trucks. As long as my tries and wheel are rated for the weight I am hauling. The tag also has to be the proper weight rating too. In a tandem axle I can legally leave the quarry weighing 66,500. The truck weighs 25k so I can haul 41,500lbs. But for less stress on the truck over time I plan to only haul 18 ton. Interstate Bridge laws are different though. I can’t get on the interstates weighing that much.
      Thanks

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks I appreciate that! I only use fabric if the ground has a tendency to stay damp/wet or you don’t have a hard/packed base. As long as you have a hard base you will be fine. Even with a hard base I generally put down a 1 1/2” base rock and then a thick coat of crusher run. Main thing is a new driveway/road needs a solid base to start on…

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  7 місяців тому +1

      I’m not aware of the 100 ton limit and I definitely don’t do that much per month. I have had an account since I had the chicken farm there on CO RD 750. I was getting contractor prices when I had the farm as well. But, I was definitely using a good bit of rock there at the farm. I have seen several trucks pulling dump trailers through there. But you do have to have an account because they no longer have a person in the scale house any more. You have to call in each time to their location in Chattanooga…

      Thanks for the quick reply. Ya for that job I would have been around 650ish. Does that sound about right? I do land services on the side. Still trying to figure my best approach for pricing. I charge $250 just to bring the equipment, and then roughly $400 for a lead load to be spread. I don’t have a dump truck yet, if I did exactly what you did, I’d probably be around 8-900 not including material. Is that high?

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  5 місяців тому +1

      @adamsfamilynfun1409 I’m with you on that, trying to figure out how to price something has always been a challenge for me. I don’t think 800 to 900 is to high at all. It only took a little over a couple hours but I have to factor in loading, hauling to the site, unloading to do the job, loading and transporting back home and unloading again. So realistically you have a good bit of time invested in a quick job like that.
      Thanks

    • @adamsfamilynfun1409
      @adamsfamilynfun1409 5 місяців тому +1

      Right. Sounds good sir. Can I ask you one more question? Does $500 for a culvert replacement or install sound low or high? 20’ 12” galvanized culvert. Delivered. With mini excavator.

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  5 місяців тому +1

      @adamsfamilynfun1409 $500, plus materials, would be the minimum that I would do it for. But if you need the work and just trying to get started in the business you can do it for less but you do need to make money while you are building the business.

    People are doing more, knowing more, and trying to take on more, but they aren't getting any further or faster. Sometimes, spiritually, we get tired of trying to do and say the right things. Only in safe places during still times can we hear the wishes of God. Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” "Long/short (video) makes no difference." We are listening...Mike&Pat

    18 ton on a tandem? Is that actually legal in TN?

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  7 місяців тому

      Yes, actually I can legally weigh 66,500, leaving the quarry, in a tandem as long as the tire ratings and wheel ratings are right for that much weight. The truck weighs 25k so technically I could haul 41,500lbs. But I only haul 18 ton to be less stress on the truck over time. That is local hauling the interstate bridge laws will not allow that weight. In TN dump trucks are considered self unloading vehicles and are treated differently when it comes to haul weight.
