I think back to all the times Mr. Miyagi talked about balance. Watch how he moves about the floor. Every time Silver attacks, Miyagi dodges and blocks until Silver's attacks puts himself into a position where he is off balance, and that is when Miyagi easily pushes him aside or into a wall. Perfect example of martial arts used as defense.
@@michaelbull4344 yes Before I got sick, I did 2 years of Karate and 2 years of Wing Chun. It was so amazing that Daniel LaRusso got his moment like this in Cobra Kai to honor his late mentor and take down Silver the same way Mr. Miyagi did all these years ago. The creators of the series and even the fight choreographers did a fantastic job at recreating such an epic moment in the series
@@fjccommish what are you talking about? I think you wanted to say, Breaking Bad, Better call Saul or Game of thrones or maybe She hulk, you are just confused like Johnny was back in the day
This scene takes me back to seeing this in the theaters in the 80s. The audience erupted when Miyagi threw Mike Barnes through the doors. They also cheered and laughed out loud when Miyagi tools Terry Silver at the end and gives it right back to him.
My brother and I used to do Miyagi's taunt to our middle school friends who practiced karate when this movie came out. Still funny today as it was when I was a kid. Kids doing karate in the 1980s and early 90s seemed like such a common thing back then. Now it seems like TaeKwanDo is the thing for kids.
It is now, but back in the 1980s and 1990s in northeast America, karate was more prominent. You mostly saw karate dojos and TV commercials for karate back then. Taekwando popularity came later.
The fact that the old Mr. Miyagi was able to fight off two of the greatest/strongest characters in their respective style and win with ease just proves how strong Miyagi was
Despite how lackadaisical a scene like this may seem when compared to martial arts films made by real martial arts masters, it is one of the most emotionally satisfying moments in film. Amd how ironic is it that they cast a comedian as Miyagi and his humor comes out so seldom, but when it does, it is glorious.
I like how Miyagi resets after each confrontation with Silvers. Almost as if in his mind a basic neutral stance is best if he handles the attacks as a self defense situation.
@@GokuInfintysaiyan absolutely. Everything about the scene was well done and l love how Miyagi always performs only the minimal amount of movement necessary to defend himself. That is a form of mastery which is not often seen in films today.
here he's mainly using defensive and avoidance techniques, using the enemies strength against them. people don't realize if you go to japan and brag about being a black belt they laugh at you. most of them have black belts before age ten, so to miyagi this was like fighting children, he doesn't want to hurt them too much, just teach lesson.
@@stevenwilliams2617 That's it, Miyagi definitely held back, if he would have cut loose (so to speak) there wouldn't have been nothing left but bodies on the floor.
I always admired how Mr.Myagi brought respect to Karate and mutual respect to others in general. All instructors should do likewise, because you are teaching young people something lethal.
It must have taken some pure perfect acting from both Mr. Miyagi and from Silver to maintain their character during the scene where Miyagi is mocking Silver. 😂😂😂
You start to understand the true power of Mr. Miyagi when you realise he drop the stuff from his shirt pocket at 1:56 and using his Qi he returns it back into place. A true martial artist!
One of the greatest living Karate masters at the time, Fumio Demura Sensei, standing in for Pat Morita in the fast action sequences of this scene, as well as in the famous scene in KK1 when Mr Miyagi saves Daniel from the CK skeletons. Demura Sensei's technical demonstration was flawless. He's close with Pat Morita, who loved him like an older brother.
You mean, as opposed to "figuratively"? Your comment makes no sense; either he is or he isn't, so saying "literally" is irrelevant. But, from the brief moment we're privvy to here, you're assuming quite a lot. Personally, I don't believe he finds the moment funny as his portrayal of Silver, nor is he breaking character an actor. Again, you're only assuming.
Mr. Miyagi was the embodiment of everything he taught. When he had to fight he flowed like water. You can see his primary strength is mastery of the fundamentals. He didn’t need a striking arsenal, he just kept himself on balance while letting his opponents anger throw themselves off balance. He let them do all the work.

You would have never thought that by watching this now 33 year old movie and the current Cobra Kai series that Ralph Macchio is older than Thomas Ian Griffith in real life. Plus the fact Thomas Ian Griffith would have only been 11 years old when the US pulled out of Vietnam yet his character in the series actively served in that war.
He may be younger in reality but portraying the character of silver as older really works. Great actor. The amazing thing is that Ralph was 27 in this movie and looked easily 10 yrs younger while Tom looked his age or older.
After the new lore they put out about mr.miyagi being a sekai takai tournament fighter and his fight with daniel, its like hes not locked in a room with you, your locked in a room with HIM!
I love how a really tall super trained and peak fitness Silver cannot defeat a average height elderly man. Just shows you how good Miyagi was as a fighter
I would of liked the writers to have terry land at least 1 or 2 hits before miyagi won, would of made more sense, but I guess they felt they didn’t want to see miyagi looking too vulnerable. But the mood was still there, at 2:25 you can see how worried Daniel looks, terry was clearly the biggest threat here
Myiagi has trained and fought longer than Silver or Kreese, he recognizes the patterns and analyze the situation. He knows how to block, strike and dodge.
Lol I noticed this the first time. It was done intentionally obviously. He also earlier on says to Daniel "What, you think you can rely on that crane crap?" lol
I miss Pat. He'd always have fun at the UNLV basketball games and go onto the court to wave to everyone. He was also a regular at my friend's Hawaiian restaurant on Sahara and Valley View Road. Forever greatful for his humbleness. 👊🙏
I’m glad that Mike Barnes redeemed himself and got payback against Silver for burning his furniture store to the ground. And Daniel also used Silver’s own quicksilver technique against him and his quick bullet.
Terry Silver is a very charismatic character. I love him! He's gorgeous. Even now in Cobra Kai s4 and s5 with the white hair he is. I love him too much! ❤
In Season 5 Finale when Chozen, Johnny, and Mike went to Silver's house it should've been Johnny and Chozen entering first saying "we have a surprise for you Silver". Silver replies "What are you talking about?". Then Barnes comes in and says "I'm what they're talking about $#@#$#@#".
I love the way that Mr. Myagi mocks Terry Silver, after basically destroying him here. Terry Silver starts making those "Waaah, Waaah, Waaah" noises at Mr. Myagi...but, at the end, it's Mr. Myagi's turn to have a little fun.. at Terry Silver's expense!
For me, it's the part when Miyagi walks in and he is completely unfazed by Kreese's presence. It's almost like he knew it was all bullshit along that that Kreese died.
I love that Barnes was clearly aware that he couldn't take Miyagi. You saw him sitting there at the end of the scene. He never made another attempt, even though he definitely could have. May have been the only non Cobra Kai person he had some respect for, in so much that he could have respect for anyone. I also love that they perfectly developed Miyagi's fighting style in the series to be totally realistic to his size, stature, and slower speed. He was entirely a counter fighter, that had lightening fast vision to see attacks, and very short quick moves to redirect attacks and throw off balance. And so when he'd throw a strike, they didn't have to be 'fast', just powerful.
Notice that Miyagi never raises his hands into a fighting position. Eveyone else does. In all the movies, but he never does. His speed and anticipation are unparalleled. No one every comes close to laying a hand on him.
Terry Silver and John Kreese are both good fighters, but Mr Miyagi is on a whole nother level of karate talent and insight. Mr Miyagi's skill has always blown my mind! He's truly incredible!

Right in today's field 😅
I am so glad movies didn't insist on realism back then, it gave room for crazy scenarios that were just too much fun to watch.
@@xao_phan580 Today is not that different. Like season final of Cobra Kai with a High School full of kids assaulting each other with karate with no control whatsoever
If you watch Cobra Kai you have to wonder how all these people keep avoiding going to jail or even getting arrested.
Not the child abuse charge. Because Daniel Larusso was 18 here.
0:54 “Do the crane, Danny-boy!”
Oh, he will Silver.
They should've shown this flashback scene in cobra kai
@@martyn9457 Yeah, the pay-off would've been more greater for people who didn't know KK3 word for word. That bugged me slightly.
@@2Takki its an easter egg for the people that know
@@davelanger Yes obviously, but to the standard viewer it just looks like they ran out of ideas and had Daniel doing the crane kick for the sake of it.
For me it was the walk Daniel did after he first knocked silver to the ground at the beginning of the fight. He walked forward the same way Miyagi walks in this fight
Definitely footwork and technique
@@michaelbull4344 yes Before I got sick, I did 2 years of Karate and 2 years of Wing Chun. The first thing they teach you is to always avoid confrontation, the second is to have balance both in body and spirit. I suggest practicing Wing Chun because it is based on you using your opponent's strength, so it is ideal for not strong men and women.
I love that moment before Silver and Kreese bow to each other. You can see that Mr Miyagi was preparing to take both on at once. Absolute legendary character.
It was so amazing that Daniel LaRusso got his moment like this in Cobra Kai to honor his late mentor and take down Silver the same way Mr. Miyagi did all these years ago. The creators of the series and even the fight choreographers did a fantastic job at recreating such an epic moment in the series

This scene takes me back to seeing this in the theaters in the 80s. The audience erupted when Miyagi threw Mike Barnes through the doors. They also cheered and laughed out loud when Miyagi tools Terry Silver at the end and gives it right back to him.
Ha that was the original MCU, crowd-reaction-wise.
I never caught 2 and 3 in the theaters. Sounds like a great time.
Am i the only one in tears laughing from mr. miyagi at the end mimicking terry 😂😂
Favorite part in the the entire saga
@@stephensmith8316 Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts there is.
It is now, but back in the 1980s and 1990s in northeast America, karate was more prominent. You mostly saw karate dojos and TV commercials for karate back then. Taekwando popularity came later.
Miyagi did that for every Asian American boy who was taunted with those dehumanizing sounds…And every one I know has had to deal with that…
The fact that the old Mr.

Considering what we learned about Miyagi-Do from Cobra Kai it just makes you realize how much Mr.Miyagi was holding back in this scene
Miyagi is so deadly...he has to pull his punches.
here he's mainly using defensive and avoidance techniques, using the enemies strength against them. people don't realize if you go to japan and brag about being a black belt they laugh at you. most of them have black belts before age ten, so to miyagi this was like fighting children, he doesn't want to hurt them too much, just teach lesson.
yep i think kreese mistake was going in by himself maybe two of them would least been a challenge instead of one by one

One of the greatest living Karate masters at the time, Fumio Demura Sensei, standing in for Pat Morita in the fast action sequences of this scene, as well as in the famous scene in KK1 when Mr Miyagi saves Daniel from the CK skeletons. from being scared to bits, Daniel went on to confront both Kreese and eventually Silver on separate occasions, and won

The music is the best thing about part III IMO.
I’m glad that Mike Barnes redeemed himself and got payback against Silver for burning his furniture store to the ground. And Daniel also used Silver’s own quicksilver technique against him and his quick bullet.
