Lightly dusting your molds with cornstarch before adding clay helps with removal. Also, tip the mold upside down when removing clay. If all else fails, let the clay dry in the mold so it has time to shrink and makes removal much easier.
I was wondering why everyone tries to take it out wet …if maybe there was some reason you can’t get it out or something?-cuz it seems obvious that letting it dry would be easier 🤔
@@paulieabeles2149 flat dried pieces will not work well on curved surfaces like round ornaments. Plus even on flat surfaces, one may want to curve the molded piece, say from a straight line to a half circle...
@@paulieabeles2149Hi, I use air dry clay quite often, and I get the best results by rubbing cornflour (or corn starch) into the mould first before pushing in the clay. The cornflour makes it easy to remove the clay mouldings from the moulds, and it's best to remove the clay while it's wet, not dry, because then you can apply your clay moulding to any surface, even if it's slightly uneven. Whereas, if you wait for the clay to dry, it's harder to remove it from the mould and, unless it's completely flat on the top, it's impossible to glue it down onto your surface without gaps appearing. I hope this helps you with your craft projects. ❤
I want to give a tip that I have just discovered on getting molded pieces to easily come out intact. I was ready to give up b/c the tiny pieces were not coming out or breaking off. I realized that the molds are heatproof and initially tried putting a batch in my toaster oven @ 300 for 30 minutes. They dropped out perfectly and they were still pliable enough to fit on a curved surface. I then did another batch @250 for 30 minutes and that came out easily but was a bit easier to apply on a curved surface. Hope this helps.
OMG ..... thank you ❗️❗️❗️I’ve been struggling since yesterday trying to get smaller intricate pieces out for a jewelry box I’m making for my granddaughter and am running out of time ....will try this 🤗🤗🤗
I’ve said this before, but you are a good teacher and pleasant to listen to. You are also an artist with your moulds. I have a new appreciation for what is involved with using them!
If you dust your mould with corn starch it will release easier. Also if you are having a terrible time getting it out put in freezer and it will POP OUT!
Yes, that's a great tip, especially because it's a lot safer to put your expensive silicone molds in the freezer than in the oven (which is something I would never want to do 😅!!) I don't know how much silicone molds cost where you are, but here in Melbourne, Australia, the Prima molds are $37 - $50, the IOD molds are $42 and the La Blanche molds all cost $45 each.
I have tried those methods, but I have noticed that clay doesn't want to go inside of mould because of that. Maybe I was just unlucky I will try again 😊
I always lightly spray my moulds with cooking spray. A little fiddly pushing the clay into the mould but no problem getting all the wee bits out.love you create 🤗
I’ve watched several videos that came from India. The two women both used oil in their moulds as well oiling the surface before rolling the clay out. They both popped right out but as I recall, these ladies were filling the moulds with hot glue.
All you have to do to remove your clay perfectly is to freeze it for half an hour, it so easy to prise then one from the other…. one is stiff one is soft! Perfect moulding every time……
That's what I was thinking. I think mold release might work as well. I was also wondering if cornstarch would help take away the tackiness as well? I ordered my clay before viewing this video. Can't wait to get started.
If I am going to leave the molded shape white I dust the inside of the mold with pearlized white pigment powder before I put the clay in. It helps me remove the shape and it dries a beautiful pearl white.. LOVE!
Great and informative video. I have just started using DAS and very happy with it. I put some cornflour in my mould and the clay would not stay in, I did watch a video from someone who says not to put it in as it drys the clay. Now I have no problem getting the clay our. Thanks also for tip on the glues to use, that has been one massive problem for me.

Hi! Thank you for the tutorial; wonderful information! Can you give some advice on the drying process? I've tried several different brands of air dry clay and they always seem to crack as they dry. I've ordered some DAS air dry clay but was hoping for some advice on the drying part. Is it normal for the clay to crack as it dries and/or is there something I can do to help prevent that? Hi Lisa! That is very normal for air drying clay. As far as I understand it has more to do with the heat/humidity combo.
