#TheFalloftheHouseofUsher #Netflix #TheFalloftheHouseofUsherNetflixReview
Lenore’s death was rough for me, I cried…she was so innocent and loving. Her dad’s death was my favorite death and he deserved how he died and Lenore’s death was sad, but a deal was a deal…she’s a part of the bloodline. This episode was my favorite.
Yeah her death was definitely emotional
Same i was really hoping her mama cheated.
@@Ali-po9leoh I didn’t even consider that, but now I wish that was the case 😂
@@MovieFileswhen verna starts talking about how many people Lenore’s mom saves in the future..”and then it gets hard to count, because the people she helps start helping people, and they start helping people” and tells Lenore “you did that - when you defied your dad, you did that. You saved all those people” …emotional indeed.
I still cry when i think about it
Great explanation! Only thing I may disagree with is that Madeline was definitely not alive in the final scene. Considering that the body preparation scene depicted Roderick performing an excerebation which included removing her brain.
In the scene, you see Roderick handle the tool required to do so.
I hated Lenore dying… they had to throw that in there!! 😢
Annabel Lee didn’t die of a broken heart, she died by suicide. When she walks past him in the church, going to her children’s coffins, you can see a bullet exit wound coming out the back of her head
I would posit that a broken heart 💔 led to her suicide...
Oh, I didn’t see the bullet wound. Gotta go back to see 🏃🏽♀️ 👀
@@Netgirl9 not saying that it didn’t. But the youtuber said she died of a broken heart. Even if it lead to the suicide, that wouldn’t be true. You can actually physically die of a broken heart. She didn’t. She died by suicide
I thought that would have made the most sense but I just assumed I missed her death scene. But no. She just dies offscreen.
@nbain it's actually called broken heart syndrome look it up, just recently a man who lost his wife in a school shooting died a couple days later due to this.
Don't know why i thought Lenore could break the curse. I was not expecting her to die so unceremoniously. At least it was peaceful. It's truly fascinating that Roderick chooses to procreate after making the deal. I thought Madeleine was going to have to convince him into taking Verna's deal because he already has two kids who might want children of their own. But he's like ok cool. Madeline is wild until the end. I didn't think Juno was going to make it but happy for her. Thanks for explaining all the connections to Poe's works. Flanagan is great at blending humanity and horror. Its hard not to be invested in the characters, good or bad or not so simple. Casting also impeccable.
Yeah I was hoping she survived
Because Mike wanted to do make Edgar Allan Poe proud by making his poems come to life.
"Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;-vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow-sorrow for the lost Lenore-
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Nameless here for evermore".
Maybe I'm misunderstanding. But her death was one of the best. Or ceremonious I would say. Her life saved thousands if not millions in the future. She is the only one who left a positive impact. The int good to come out of that family. At least her death. ... or her life. Meant something.
I started speculating that Lenore wasn’t Fred’s child, that Camille had an affair. I had a hard time seeing the screen when I realized that wasn’t true😢
In the scene with Verna and Lenore, at one point during the end of her monologue the camera shows us a POV from both characters, we see Lenore first and then Verna second and Verna is talking about how Lenore changed millions of lives with her one single act of kindness by helping her mother. When they tight shot on her face she looks as though she's speaking to the viewer and she says "That choice you made echoes through millions of lives" and I do believe that was purposefully done! The show runners wanted to tell the audience in a fourth wall breaking kind of way that kindness matters, what we do impacts not only our lives but others, and it can echo through time! It made me feel a certain type of way...because millions of people, every single day, feel like they don't matter! I know it's a tv show but during that brief moment I felt seen, like she was speaking to me, telling me that I matter and it made me incredibly emotional! What a wonderful scene!!
I agree! It was very emotional 😭
BEAUTIFUL point❤
That scene was beautiful.
I LOVED how Mike Flanagan included Trump in this show about greed and power. Just a nice little hat tip to say, “Take note, Donald, the devil’s coming for you!”
Omg excellent observation 👌🏻 Spot on
Carla Gugino was astounding!
The fall of the house of usher is what the changeling tried to be. That’s how you end a show. This was amazing. I wish Roderick sister had been killed by the raven. Just wasn’t satisfying enough. And the fact that Roderick’s wife inherited everything would have had the siblings rolling in their graves.😂
Yeah this was incredible storytelling
Madeline and Roderick death was perfect. They died the same way the story started. It ended the same so so sad.
I love that Lenore was the only one in the bloodline Rogerick actually mourned. Also loved that Madeline finished the job their mother started. I guess she could sense the evil
Would never take that deal!!
Enjoyed every single episode!!
Bit of a miss there. Verna revived Roderick because he had to die at the same time as Madeline. So he didn't forget to check Madeline was dead, she most likely got revived by Verna so that they can die at the same time.
Great point
I appreciated the quiet confirmation we get with Annabel Lee’s suicide
There were lots of hauntingly gruesome scenes in this one, but Madeline making her way back up those stairs and realizing she was like that down there the entire time was genuinely TERRIFYING.
There is no way I would have made that deal. And he already had children 😒. He didn't even hesitate. My oldest was born with a heart condition that was costly in a lot of ways, but expensive too. I was still young and not very established at the time. But I learned later in life that I could really cherish my family and good times more BECAUSE of the challenges we had already made it through. And that has never changed.
The thing i don't get is Madeline, in the previous episode Verna said something about clarity to Madeleine and that she would understand it later. But we don't know if she understood it.
I also liked the phrasing “cost of a generation” because truly, the amount of people their choices killed could fill a generation easily, and their own bloodline and next generation passing is just a drop in the bucket.
I would've taken the long life of pain and suffering. because that pain and suffering can cause growth and can lead to some amazing moments of happiness.
I absolutely LOVED Flanagan targeting the 1% (including Trump), in his writing and imagery. Who else caught on to Verna saying "“Like I said to one of my clients: When I’m done, you can stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and it won’t cost you a thing.” 😳
Yesssss caught that one!
My face after I googled that line 😳😳😳😳
No one else did. No one likes putting politics into shows. The left complaining of anything republicans do given who is now in the WH is hilarious.
@@bobross1829Oh Bobby. You are an obedient little foot soldier for the fascist MAGA Cult. Of course you don't like the 1% being called out even though you are nowhere close to being in the billionaire or multi-millionaire club.
It's like the cow advocating for the butcher.
Hilarious comment given that super high tax rates benefit the 1%. The left needs to learn economics
I would turn down the deal. It's not fair to bargain with other people's lives especially your own children's. No thanks man. I think the twins were too selfish and that is why they tried killing eachother to see if the other could live more time. Sometimes too much money corrupts.
I cried with Lenore died.. 😢 Mike Flanagan does this everytime. Finds a way to pull on our hearts strings. I Lenore's death was such a tragedy. Verna even is on the verge of tears saying how this is the part of her job she hates. But she was gentle about it and offers her solace. Btw, that rapping Rodrick kept hearing like the poem was the text messages saying "Nevermore". Verna wasn't neither good nor evil. She was Karma..
Also and this is very important, they were going to take over Fortunato either way. They had already passes that threshold of being murders. Verna just offered them no consequences and that they would be more rich than originally. If they would have said no, they would of been rich, but have to face consequences. The next generation would still be alive. Nope, they were greedy and chose to sacrifice it all.
When I first saw Verna on Lenore’s bed I was immediately angry……I’m so glad she didn’t die by suicide or some terrible way
When i heard bloodline, I realized Lenore was gonna die too. Untill that moment i was hoping itcwas just the generation of Roderick's kids. Verna made it quick and painless which is what Lenore deserved. Amazing character, amazing actress!
Scene with Lenore was heartbreaking. Great series and recap.
Yes it was! Appreciate the support.
I immediately started crying during the Lenore and Verna scene and now as you’re talking about it 🥹😭 Mike Flanagan always knows a way to touch those pain points and make it beautiful! Great review! ✨
Same!!
Best limited series ever IMO
It’s pretty incredible
Yup, definitely cried with Lenore. The moment her and Verna had were beautiful and so torturous because we knew what was coming. And it gave Verna so much more humanity, to see she hated it too. Just such a great scene for both the characters.
One of the best scenes, if not the best! I ugly cried!
Pity that Lenore had to die. I thought, she could have been spared.😮
As soon as I saw the word “Amatillado” I instantly remembered that story from English class and I thought it was brilliant! Insane series and I love the reviews:)
Appreciate you watching them 👏🏾
I really enjoyed all the performances. Actors can be such artists bringing so much life to written scripts.
Interesting question, but I have no idea how to answer. Meeting a Goddess like Verna, I would be curious to know her, and her history… I’m not sure I have anything to offer such as her, but I did adore her comment that if they had had souls they would have forfeited them one brick at a time.
Well said
Damn!! Just catching that last line! That’s a powerful one 😮💨.
I am so glad this show exist. Pure genius and great homage to Edgar Alan Poe's works.
I would have taken the deal out of my current terror of being caught for the murder even more than out of greed in that moment. Would have regretted it deeply
I enjoy all your breakdowns. I agree with everything you stated. Carla Gugino was next level with the many aspects she pulled off as Verna ❤
Since you asked, not a chance in hell would i take the deal. At most, i might see if a different deal is on the table, but most likely i would just leave. Not a fan of having anyone other myself pay the price for my deals.
They both could have adopted kids and kept the usher name and family alive. Verna only said bloodline.
Also why is no one talking about how heavily aspirational were Egyptian pharaonic culture was to the ushers. The brother and the sister together rule a kingdom and obsessed with afterlife.
Also Mike Flanagan indirectly ranting about consumer culture and how people just want more and more and spending on making movies instead of using that money to actually solve problems in the real world.
Did Verna's eyes appear more serpent-like in the bar scene making the deal? Great review.
Interesting catch
Willa Fitzgerald Mark Hamill were my favorite performances
Willa is climbing up to being one of my favorite actors
The crazy part is that Anabel also played Poppy in Hill house - what a contrast!
If i didnt have kids I probably wouldve dont it. But since i do nahhhhh 🙅🏾♂️
Easter egg, the mirror from Occulus is in the background in the bar. When they made the deal
MIKE FLANAGAN TIER LIST
1) Haunting of Hill House
2) Fall of the House of Usher
3) Midnight Mass
4) Haunting of Bly Manor
5) Midnight Club
Verna should have given Lenore a deal of some kind, even if she would have been too good to take it, just giving her that choice is better than not- in my opinion I’d think having a choice is more merciful than not
I was expecting it to say she wasn't an Usher- her mom cheated.
@@ProWrestlingPsychology101She had to be an Usher because she was supposed to be a mirror to Annabelle
Would you consider doing a video where you look into Verna’s implied impact on those powerful families? (Rothschild etc)
A video talking about what exactly?
You mean on how she became The Grim Reaper?
@@MovieFiles just like mixing reality with fiction eg looking into the Kennedy and Rothschild family’s tragedies and how they came about because of a deal with Verna
Annabel died by suicide, not just a broken heart.
I adore Midnight Mass & this is definitely up there with it.
I definitely teared up when Lenora passed away. Not with any of the others
Same
I’d turn down the deal, and make a counter proposal. My life for my daughter to be protected and die of old age surrounded by family ❤
Younger me would’ve taken the deal no question, today I don’t think I could do it.
God the payoffs in this show were all SO satisfying. And the poetry placement was so so effective. I enjoyed this series enormously!!!!
Normally I hate remakes of stories. This one however showed respect for the source material and did a very good job in my opinion.
Why did Lenore get a feather at the end?
It could be a sign of remorse or respect by Verna by pulling out her own feather and placing it on Lenore’s grave.
Nobody gonna talk about that Dupin slide he did to the door and the rubble crumbling behind him sliding....epic!!
Gotta make it into a GIF haha, it was so slick!
@@odumabekah4000😂😂 I know, when udo ugotta send that to me yo!!
Thank you for this commentary. I watched your videos after each episode. ❤
You have no idea how much I appreciate that 👏🏾 thank you so much ❤️
Lenore’s death was very emotional. I wish she could’ve lived.
I was kind of hoping Rufus would yell out "For the love of God, Rodrick Usher!" As he was bricked up.
Lenore died from a random finger touch to the forehead and "someone must have turned on the AI" bc she is texting. Huge build-up, but a frantic and unfulfilling pay off.
Great UA-cam series! I very much enjoyed watching these videos after watching each TFOTHOU episode! Would love to see more about the breakdowns of each Poe story the episodes are based on - those were my favorite parts of the breakdowns! 🙂
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch them 👏🏾 I was originally going to do separate videos on the actual stories but I was wore out after watching all the episodes, editing videos etc I was burned out lol
Overall, the series was good but scared me a few times with the jump scare and terrifying looks from his dead children. Money does make people monsters. 😢so sad..
This was the best limited Netflix series I've ever seen. Perfect from start to finish. And terrifying.
That black cat was the MVP of the series
🐈⬛
If someone offered me a lifetime of pleasure and riches at the cost of one second of discomfort for my son, I'd laugh in their face...
Sounds like rod and mad could have beat the curse if they just didnt have kids.
Thank you for your review.
Thank you for watching
Love this Netflix series it is a 💎
Is it me or is Mark Hamill channeling Frenchie? Frank Costello's right hand man? "What is it? Your Period?" 😂. Funny how "Sweaty" Freddy makes analogies based on movies(I do it too),that movie being The Departed..Maybe they're Brothers like Vince and Vick Vega?
I have to agree with you… I have to sit with this one a little bit because I truly enjoyed Midnight Mass and it’s my personal favorite! This one, for right now, is a strong second!
I totally agree!
Ah-man-tee-ah-doe.
To answer your question, no I would never take that deal. Speaking as a mother? It’s baffling that Roderick took it while he already had two kids.
I recently finished watching the series and found this set of recaps. It was mostly a good watch, IMO, except to two glaring issues I had with the recaps. First, in earlier recaps, you wondered about Annabel and when you finally tied the character to the Annabel Lee poem, you only said it was about the death of beautiful women ... but not that it was about the tragic loss of a lover. That was an important point, as they were seemingly, very much in love (for a little while). Second, the entire series was based on a story about a man, according to Poe, who had a disordered brain ... a mind haunted by phantoms, in reference to Roderick Usher. You never mentioned any "callback" or "nod" to the title story.
This episode bought me to tears bravo… very well scripted 👏🏾 👏🏾 rIp to the purest usher of them all 💖💖🌺
I thought that even though the Bloodline will end, that she will spare Lenore. Lenore is the innocent one. She’s not a direct child of Roderick. So i thought Lenore would have been given a chance
I absolutely loved this series. I think it shows how far some are willing to go to get what they want, even sacrificing their own family. It shows how greed can destroy people. Roderick making the deal with Verna showed where he placed his priorities, he was willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants, he had 2 kids already at that time, he was a selfish jerk. I could never ever do that to my bloodline, money & power will never truly make you happy, family can. My favorite episode was episode 8, Verna's & Lenore's episode was gold. it was so emotional, I ugly cried for a long time. As much as I hated seeing Lenore die, I knew she would, but I loved the humanity of Verna to let her know about her mom's legacy & that she was the one responsible. That was such a great moment, such a great interaction between these two actresses!
Would I take the same deal? ABSOLUTELY NOT LOLLL! What good is hard work if it means nothing in thr end: no heirs to leave it to, no one better for it, no fame to live on your name. Struggle is apart of life; you can't appreciate the flowers without the rain. Their choice was infathomable to me.
I was hoping since the kept showing Robdrick staring at the brick wall we would get a the cask of amontillado death somehow. The finale was great i was hoping there was some twist of Lenore being an illegitimate daughter or something in secret just to keep her alive as soon as it was revealed its not just a your kids die but the whole bloodline kind of thing
I would only need specifics to take the deal. 50 to 60 won't do for me.
I still don't understand why Roderick poisoned Madeline... Like what was his goal?
Being the last Usher alive
@@MovieFiles But how would that benefit him if he knew they were all going to die imminently anyway? And didn't he remember that Verna said they had to die at the same time?
@amac9044 He wanted her to go out like a queen.... better that then going out some other way
@@prue5588 Ah ok I guess that makes sense.
Maybe to get his lick back I mean she did try to kill him first 🤷🏽♀️
But what happened to annabel? We see the back of her head there is a bad wound. Did she kill herself? That doesn't make sense .. justv that's an uncommon way for women to go... but he didn't kill her.. cuz he got the kids from her... that's my biggest question
She took herself out because the kids wasn't themselves anymore, they were more like they're soulless father instead of the loving kids she risen
Awesome reviews!! Thank you.
So fun watching along with you. I think this has moved up to the #1 spot for me. Everything about it was perfection in my opinion.
The Jester jump scare was GREAT I jumped out my skin and then laughed till tears
I think Vera was a crossroads demon like off of the show supernatural she gives you wealth at the cost of your life or someone's closest to you longer down the road with you with hurt even worse because of doubt and thinking they find loopholes and tricked their way out of it
I'm confused that Lenore ended up being a beta or AI without her own aunt knowing it or doing it herself
RODERICK HAD ME THINKING SHE WAS ACTUALLY IN THE BASEMENT AS A MACHINE
And why did he kill his sister that was Vera's job
I was very underwhelmed by this show. I was expecting deeper than "Love your family".
I was expecting Verna/ Symbol of Death to say Lenore wasn't an Usher because her mom cheated. It would have created more of a grey area of morality. Which would have been interesting because the daughter wasn't "tainted" by greed, but lust from the mother. I understand she was intended to be innocent in all of this. But come on.
I was thinking Verna was going to make a deal with the Auggie to be the one to get the confession from Roderick. Like, Auggie traded his family or his own life for "Justice" for the other families. It would have been more poetic than "Love your family" as the morale of the show. I was also thinking Auggie may have sold his life so Lenore, the innocent one, can live a "regular" life. That would have been awesome. And especially since they had the alcohol out on the table and it was either "Your best day ever, or your last day on Earth", it would have been different from anyone else's death associated with the alcohol: having Auggie die and have his best day of his life because he gets the confession but still dies- because he was obsessed with Justice. Also, I know people in a same sex marriage can have babies, but I thought they might have made some deal in there as well. They never even showed his family-why did it matter if he has a family to go home to...?
Some of the deaths made no sense. The sister killed by the chimps because she was trying to do the right thing? Either way she would have died. Why not give into that character dynamic and lead this to imply she's the snitch? They could have even Madeline the informant due to her own greed and selfishness. Would have made more sense than "I was bluffing"; that just felt lazy. What is he gonna do with this kind of confession anyway? It sounds like a man sick from dementia trying to piece together his life. There's no way any of that would even hold up in court. A woman who never existed helped you make a deal with the devil? And each of your kids deaths is your own fault...? Oh okay, you're convicted. The only thing they have on him is the death of a guy who was a terrible person to begin with. He was never offered a deal either, btw.
Why was Verna there for Prospero? He was entirely devoted to the s3x party- Why did he get a chance at leaving the party? Only to die in his sleep? Why? What did he do to deserve the chance to leave, he was the one who conceived the party from beginning to end. He had no reason to be offered a "way out". He even went behind his brothers back to invite his wife to the party. He was more lustful than anyone.
And then- why did Morelle, the wife, not die at the party? Because plot armor???
Why did Tammerlane like to watch her husband do stuff...? She liked to watch-okay? So? That's just it? It's not that deep? She has the mirrors on the ceiling so she can watch her husband have sex with herself...? So that's how she dies? She was randomly jealous of Verna in their videos but already had him licking people's armpits in front of her? How much worse could cheating on her be? And then she was super rude and never cared about him anyway?
I thought the writer was going for something with how they were all dying, eventually leading to outright murder. But it fell apart 3/4's through the show. I thought Prospero's death was an "accident", the next death was a little bit more self-intentional/ madness/ accidental, and lead to su1cide (the Dr. Sister), THEN each death would work it's way towards 1st degree premeditated murd3r and a conviction.
Roderick died the same way his dad did and Madeline died the way her mom did? Is that suggesting incest? I thought the mom died and buried, but made a deal with Verna before she died to take him down with her, so she did as she killed him. Why wouldn't the wife try and help anyway...? Who just watches someone strangle their husband?
I was thinking each of the children had the "dream job" of modern society; celebrities but for all different reasons: fashion, gossip news, video game developer, F**k boy, a scientist experimenting to help others, etc. But I don't think it came to fruition entirely either.
The wife died all by herself? That's it...? The mom LOVED her children and gave them love growing up, but then she randomly dies off screen? Not even from the Usher Curse? Just died by a broken heart? Did they even say how she died? I was paying attention for it, but I thought it was intentionally ambiguous so she could come back at the end or something. Her death meant nothing.
I thought Mr. Pym had made a deal to be an amazing attorney back in the day, and that's how theu were getting away with it. But no. He just was willing to commit or at least be a party to all of these crimes. He was never really even punished. He just didn't have a life that we could see. BUT he never sold his soul/ made a deal with the devil. But why would Verna want anything from him? He didn't have a family. He didn't have love in his life. Pym should have BEGGED to make a deal with her, but Verna would refuse because he has nothing to trade. Like, he's a bad guy, sooooo....? He gets to choose his own ending? Lenore dies in her sleep randomly at age 14 but Mr. Pym can live until he's 90? Why does that make sense? How is that a fair deal? Why couldn't Lenore make a deal?
Did you even watch the show because like half the questions were answered. The point of Lenore dying is to show that Roderick’s actions still had consequences he hadn’t even thought of yet
The thing with Auggie is he is not as obsessed with Justice he’s obsessed with Roderick because he was willing to stoop down to his level but the reason he differs from Roderick is his humanity he couldn’t sell his family off because he already had them and the reason Verna brought Auggie there is to be the witness he represents us without him there is no show it mattered they didn’t show his family because again he is us and Roderick when he made the deal didn’t have a lot you for him it seemed like a fair trade but for Auggie it would’ve felt like giving away everything
Camille was not trying to do the right thing sure it aligned with the right thing but she was never going to use the video for good and the point of there not being a snitch was to show that Auggie was begging to sink down to the Usher’s level and Auggie didn’t know about Roderick’s CADASIL so that’s not his fault and he didn’t know about Verna till like half the story and at that point he just wanted to get the truth he probably also knew that the confession wouldn’t hold up in court and that’s why he left it at his grave
It wasn’t plot armor really it says 27 other people survived the incident
I think her whole thing was control and being in control of literally every aspect of the “date” like a script they went off of and she was jealous of Verna because she wasn’t in control any more she was mean to him but also tried apologizing that’s what she does she takes control by making people feel little because it makes them easier to control but it seems like she felt bad afterwards
I feel like the deaths were supposed to kind of start from like accidents to crimes the deaths were supposed to ramp up as the show went on
It wasn’t supposed to symbolize incest it was supposed to symbolize what’s left of their family and she did die almost right after strangling Roderick’s father but I don’t think she made a deal with Death and it must’ve been shocking to see a zombie basically strangle your abusive husband douchebag or she wasn’t there I don’t remember
I think the point of the dream job thing is the Ushers never actually did any of it they paid other people to do it for them
Also Annabel’s death was by suicide in the church when you see her turn around to walk towards the caskets you see a bloody hole in her head her death was meant to show basically the good side of Roderick
Well Pym should never had made a great attorney but when the Ushers made their deal on New Years for immunity to the law for whatever they did they still needed someone to represent them so it was reflected into Pym so he could be their shield if you watch the show she also says this to Pym he was punished he got life in prison and he did have a life but it was a really messed up one I don’t remember but Verna and him talked about it what she didn’t want anything from him just like she didn’t want anything from the Ushers. Pym would’ve never had begged because well he knows he has nothing to trade and there’s no point any he said he lived his life without needing anybody or loving anybody so why start now yes he gets to choose his own ending he never made a deal with Verna he literally tried to kill death but the point is I think she found him interesting the point is it’s not a fair deal it’s about Roderick not thinking about the consequences of his deals Lenore couldn’t make a deal because I’m assuming the original deal struck by Roderick would override hers and she probably wouldn’t have traded her mom or Juno for a longer life and riches because she is one of the two good Ushers
A lot of these questions you’re supposed to fill in while watching the show using your opinion instead of asking 8 paragraphs worth of them and then some of them the outright gives them to you
🖤Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE the first 3 series, but this is a MASTERPIECE!

As much as I would love a life of luxury, the price of losing my loved ones is not worth it. I'd rather my soul be damned for eternity for my family to live on happily. Roderick was a fool.
I was also emotional when Verna took Lenore's life. I was really hoping that Verna would have altered the deal at that moment.
The Haunting of Hill House is still my favorite, but Fall of the House of Usher is a close second!
