I've just bought a previous generation GB35J as I wanted a more classic looking passive bass to pair with my Cort B5. It sounds and plays great, never been disappointed by Cort's products.
@@JonnyDibble Sunburst with some beautiful grain showing. It also has block inlays which I love. I've just bought another with MM and J pickups, unfortunately this one only has dots, but does have a 2 band pre (with active/passive switching).
Cort has been a guitar-making brand for more than 50 years. Cor-Tek is a global instrument manufacturer that produces and exports more than one million guitars and 300,000 amplifiers per year worldwide. Based on the technology and experience it has accumulated, its own guitar brand Cort was launched and became a highly sought-after name in the global instrument market for its high quality and excellent design. Cort guitars are built in the state-of-the-art production facilities in Indonesia and China, introducing careful wood selection standards, wood drying facilities, advanced CNC equipment and painting processes.
I own this bass for a week now. It is surprisingly good for this price. However, all the hardware and electronics on mine have been replaced with Fender's stuff, including electronics. It sounded great; it is very light, and the neck is shockingly slim indeed. So far, so good. It might be an excellent essential bass for aspiring bass players.
This excellent review got my eyes on the Cort. I used to own a Yamaha TBRX304 but sold it in favour for this. I just like playing and looking at this Cort more.
I would really like to get a GB74 in the future with the jazz pickup and stingray humbucker (pictured at 1:19)... Seems like a greatly "unexplored" pickup combination by the bigger brands
I think this is the only sort of almost J-bass looking bass that actually looks as good as a straight up copy or original. Usually when they change it to avoid getting sued it looks kinda ugly.
I've also heard Cort is making stuff for a lot of brands. I've always noticed Cort and Ibanez doing very similar things. Cort made the Curbow basses with Luthite (kind of synthetic wood without a grain, I think they poor it) and Ibanez used it in their guitars. Both had ebonol fingerboards too. They both like to make similar basses and guitars but with slightly different styling. They both love to put Bartolini Soapbars in their basses and the bridges look very similar too. I always felt like the A4 and the SR300 were probably just the same bass essentially. Apparently Ibanez isn't a guitar manufacture, but a reseller, so kind of the opposite of Cort. Guess it makes sense they work together a lot. At the moment Ibanez sells the SRMD200 which looks quite a bit like the Cort GB14. Kind of like the PJ equivalent of this bass. Like the cheaper Corts a lot more when it comes to looks though.
Apparently, the new Squier Classic Vibes come out of the same factory as the Corts, which kinda explains why they aren't as good anymore. The early 2010's CV's are some of the best budget basses ever made IMO and the factory change basically gutted them. The Vintage Modified series always came out of that same Indonesian factory, and since they're no longer made, the new CV's are basically just VM's by a different name.
Interesting! Yeah I've heard some dodgy things about some new classic vibes, the mustang in particular! I must've gotten lucky with my P bass, that things a machine 😍 Thanks for the insight good sir
How you would compare this Cort vs Schecter J4 bass? Couple months ago I bought a Cort T34 bass and comparing with my Schecter Omen they are very different but the Cort have a unique sound and when I play it its on its own level. Great videos and thank you for what you do!
Then some month, what you think about It? A must bought a bass now, e i would your opinion about It. I am from Italy. And, what Is yuor top in the range 200 300 €. Thanks. Kristian
I find it very difficult to choose between this Cort and SX FJB75C 3TS, tell me which is better to buy? Thank you.I live in Ukraine, and here Cort is a little more expensive than SX
Hi Mark! I've only tried the 50s and 60s P bass (the latter I own). Both of which I have positive opinions if but I have heard mixed things about the mustang. Should probably try and get one on the channel to explore 🤔
Cor-Tek (Cort) make bass for Squier, PRS, Ibanez, G&L etc. GB means gig bass of all things😉 I have to agree, these things have racing snake necks. Great video thanks for the upload.
Hi! I've not played the new Affinity jazz basses, but I know they're a lot better than the older ones. Depending where you are in the world, Harley Benton are an excellent shout too 😄
Go to the store and buy a bathroom scale. That is what every family has ever done back in the day. (1970's,1980's,1990's). Now you can weigh basses, guitars and human bodies.
Cort really makes some fantastic instruments. Heck, they make all of the ICS-serial numered Squiers. They must be doing something right if Manson guitars and Matt Bellamy chose them to make their Matt Bellamy signature guitar -- which is an EXCELLENT guitar.
@@JonnyDibble Yeah I'm definitely looking at them in a new light too...they make everything else out there anyways but they do excellent work regardless of who else puts their headstock badge on XD
Thanks for the review as I'm looking to purchase a Jazz Bass (regardless of make) that comes stock with an onboard preamp.. As far as your comment at 5:26 Phillip McKnight goes into detail on this topic in this video ua-cam.com/video/cqV-hJeRIBc/v-deo.html
Another cool video, Jonny :) This bass isn't quite doing it for me for some reason, though. One small criticism: I'd be cool to have the bass in shot when you're going through the specs.
Man, that bass sounds gnarly and thumpy! Not digging the headstock but that tone is definitely banging! How's the neck shape working for you? Is it fendery? Stingray-ey?
Plenty of punch! I'd say the neck is more fendery in shape, but stingray-ey in width. Probably closest resemblance to a modern jazz bass though (unsurprisingly I guess) 😊

Great vid man! Happy new year :)
Thanks mate! Happy new year 😁
Your channel is quickly becoming my new favorite bass channel!
😍 That's awesome! Thanks very much for the support 😁

Ok but this bass doesn't sound right
Bad night, broken down at the side of the road. Cold and awaiting the AA.....Jonny D premier....that makes me feel a little better!
Aw I'm glad to have brought a little joy in a rubbish situation 🙂 Hope the car gets sorted okay!

Thanks and Cheers!
Thank-you so much dude! I'm glad you're enjoying them 😁
I have an Action Pj and I love it. I’m looking at this bass to have a J bass…probably will customize, just for fun.
Great video! Would you consider reviewing the Squier Bronco?
Thanks man! I do have my eye on the shell pink one 😉😍
my cort b4 fretless approved this review:)
...and yes you were absolutly right! GB definetly stands for Great Britain👍😉
Preamp boost sounds grrrrrrrreat! Nice vid as always.
Thanks Marcus! 😁
thanks for the video, i bought this bass after seeing your review, ive been enjoying it a lot
That outro groove was killer!
Thanks very much!

wow so many tones!! I was blown away by all those choices!!! perfect for the Red Hot Chili Peppers type groove!
Sounds so good! Yeah absolutely
Hey man, love your reviews! This or the Harley benton jb-75? Thanks in advance!

I shall keep an eye out for one! Yeah it is isn't it? Wonder why (cost probably?), its a great combo 👍

Ikr! Most normally look a bit weird but this one nails it

This makes sense! Funny how manufacturering works like that! Thanks for the insight 😁
Sounds like an absolute tone monster!
It really does 😍
Those tuners are vintage Fender style, and can be tightened by the screw on the back
Indeed! 😊 The actual tuning peg on the G string is still a bit wobbly though even though they're fully tightened

Thanks very much! Thanks ti the preamp this is definitely a warmer bass, but overall the schecter is a bit nicer, dream to play!
Between buying this bass or the Ibanez gsr-200 (here where I live both are in the same price range) what would you say?
I don't love the entry level ibanez'zzzz basses, so for me it would be this one!

I've had the SX Precision Bass, personally I prefer the SX at this price point!
Wich is better for a beginner? Squire Affinity jazz bass or this cort?
I'd say Squier Affinity, start with something passive 😄
GB Stands for Gig Bass
Wahey! Thanks 😁
Hey jonny Any thoughts on squier there mustang bass?
Hi Mark! I've only tried the 50s and 60s P bass (the latter I own). Both of which I have positive opinions if but I have heard mixed things about the mustang. Should probably try and get one on the channel to explore 🤔

Many pre-amps can have that low input thing going on. Interesting review!
True! Most if the affordable ones I've tried tend to be way too hot so maybe it's a sign of better quality! Cheers my dude 😊

The question is: is this the ugliest headstock design, or SX basses still win the oscar ?
The old pointy SX headstock is the winner/loser 😆 I prefer the new SX one over the Cort one methinks!
My cort Action v jazz may be better
Maybe!
