    Cort is a great brand. My first bass ever was a red Cort action bass. It was a great bass, period. It might not have been the coolest looking, but I seriously believe that you could have done anything with this bass, from beginning to playing world tours. Not that I got there, but you get the idea. :D

    Paulownia wood also known as Royal/Empress, this is a very fast growing tree it is also brittle with the lowest density listed (close to balsa). This is why this bass has a maple block otherwise it would sound like poop...I like the idea as long as neck dive is not an issue...

    Since Cort doesn’t even answer questions on their own product videos:
    Does the passive mode require a battery to be plugged in? What is the volume difference between active and passive mode? I think there was a review on Bonedo or here where one bass had almost no volume difference, which makes it really usable for switching sounds in a live setup..

    • @basstheworldofficial

      Yeah true, they do not even answer to custommers for support and issues. So your question should be, if you buy it will they turn their backs afterwrds? The answer is yes they will and they won't even sweat about it.

    I'd take this over the higher end Sire basses any day for that vintage 70's jazz tone. No ugly branding on the headstock and an absolutely BEAUTIFUL top. I love Marcus Miller, but at least stylize the font with his name plastered on the headstock and don't just use the most default boring font possible, ugly

    To my ears, tone are more compress, fatter, less snappy and polished compare to previous GB74JJ with VTB-ST hum cancelling Alnico V pickups. The price tag are twice more than 74JJ too.
    I believe roasted maple neck are far solid than GB74JJ i been own, which not stable enough with solid name call Canadian Hard Maple !

    Hi Gregor, greetings from Australia, [ich kann aber deutsch], one question about the Cort JB5, I was surprised to hear the pickups are actually single coils, given they are that big. Do they have the single coil buzz like the original J Bass when you use one pickup only? Special noiseless pickups from Aguilar have solved this problem, so I was wondering...

    That transparent pickguard really ruins the looks of this bass. It cheapens it out. Either no pickguard at all or black (with everything else also being black) would be much-much better. And I agree about weight. From my experience, ultra-light basses (like my Ibanez SR650 - only 3.3 kilos) lack articulation and note definition. I also have a custom-designed headless bass that has places for counterweights both in the body and at the (very small) head. The bass sounds better with more weight in the body and less at the head.

    • @joannalewis5279

      I have an SR505e with Nordstrand Zen Blades and it's very modern sounding now and you are right that low end isn't is strong point, but wow the highs. It still punches and I love it. Have the Cort too and it has a ton of low end

    • @MotoGreciaMarios
      @MotoGreciaMarios 4 місяці тому

      @@joannalewis5279 Yeah my Ibanez also has a sizzling high-end, and lots of fret noise.
      If your Cort has Bartolini Mk1s, it will sound much better with the Zen blades on it. I had a B4 and replaced the Mk1s with Zens and they lightened the sound, adding some more high-end without changing the general character, because they are both bladed pickups. The winding is just different.
      Eventually I put the Zen blade onto the custom bass I told you about in the bridge "position" (it's moveable) and it is paired to a noiseless Nordstrand '51 Precision in the neck "position". Surprisingly they pair pretty well together, producing a very articulate and round sound. If I solo any one of them (especially the '51) I can have tons of highs too.

    'Freedom kilos' - I love this! Thankfully, once again the UK is 'taking back control' from the evil 'Fifth Reich' (the EU). Of course, this is complete BOLLOCKS and indeed, BOLLOCKS TO BREXIT! The implementation of self-imposed economic sanctions on ourselves (UK), has made my life a pain in the arse from buying gear from Thomann to (the now nightmare of) working in the EU, which accounted for around a third of my yearly income as a bass player. I have unashamedly, started to refer to imperial measures as 'freedom...' At least we 'remainers' or 'remoaners' as our right-wing press labels us, still have the ability to raise a smile and mostly, laugh at the appalling political decisions made by the donkeys that lead us; which is a good thing really, as the rest of the world considers the British as a laughing stock as the country descends into a second-world state run like a 'banana republic'. Rule Brit's anus, Brit's anus waives the rules!
    By the way - thanks for this review. This model looks like the bass I've been looking for, for quite some time now.
    P.S. I've just ordered mine!

    Love your videos but it's kind of stupid to call people conspiracy theorists when there is actually plenty of direct evidence that you're wrong about tone woods. If you've got any kind of hard evidence supporting your stance, I'd love to see it. I'm talking data, not just an appeal to authority.

    • @basstheworldofficial
      @basstheworldofficial  2 роки тому +1

      Find me one luthier that supports your theory. Just one, only one. Please educate yourself. It’s really just simple physics. Do you really believe the rules for mass make an exception for woods that happen to end up in instruments? Different densities, different weights resonate at different frequencies in a different way. How would it not?

    Nice bass but poor way to « recreate » the superlight models from Sandberg (which accidentally do use the same wood for their body).
    Who needs poplar burst and maple thing when you could just use a full paulownia body ?
    Is it a patent thing they want to go around ?
    Or just idiocracy since using that sandwich maple/poplar burst method is only bringing the cost up ?
    Same thing for the Babich bridge… a simpler string through body model would have brought more advantages (choice of string tension AND a lighter body in the end since the Babich bridge is pretty heavy).
    To me, a bridge like the one being used on the Yamaha BB434 would have been way better.
    Cort is a great company, no doubt about it, but their r&d department is a little sloppy on their design compared to Yamaha.
    I am no fan of the latter but I do own a BB5N II which is 3.5Kg, and to me, that’s a pretty light for a fiver with alder body which is 20 years old.
    So, no obvious revolution happening here…
    Anyway, thank you again for that nice video :-)
