Paddy's timing and intonation is perfect.
y wouldn't it be. he's a musician it's his job
Nobody sings this song like the great Paddy Reilly...magnificent song makes me proud to be Irish 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Never get tired of hearing this song. Great voice
Not a drop of Irish blood, yet I cry like a child lost whenever I hear Fields of Athenry.
that is because you have a "soul", gets you in the guts, take care pal !
@@paulmac251 Thank you! And thanks for explaining that my soul is actually in my guts 👍. Makes sense when you think of it!
Absolutely the same as that 🥺
@@NYCBG Absolutely. We all 'get it' in different ways. That's the magic of the song.
I cry too in memory of all those who were in the song and there were millions.
The appeal of Irish songs is that it always tells a story depicting the history of that country. The melody is beautiful and the lyrics can be so heart wrenching .
So true
The most beautifull song ever writen
My absolute favourite song. Love the Dubliners and memories of Ireland
Rony drew you legend he paid for my grandfather funeral a lot of respect for him
It is a really special song to me - I lost my dad in 2009 and mum and dad were from County Mayo xx We as young people went every year as young children and my heart belongs there always has x
🥺❤️💚
A bit late, but bless. God knows what these ancestors of ours suffered. Immortalised in such songs yet the reality of their sufferings we can only imagine.
Aw bless, that's a nice post Kathy 💚
Kathy, they can take the person out of Ireland but never the Irish out of the person. Come on Mayo!
Omg I never get tired of listening to this song
Haja
Yes million %
The music of the tin whistle is magic , a tiny instrument with a genius playing it, absolutely stunning
Me also.
Born and bred in Birmingham went to Catholic school. Most of my friends have Irish roots. Love St Patrick's day . God bless the Dubliners there songs are great.
Happy to say my father is from county wicklow and im proud of where i call home ... ive never fit in schools etc ... here in london .. its like no one know history or we cant be free ... so when i feel trapped to wish to be home in ireland .... il sing this song ... and really it means so much to me
I remember us driving into Denmark here from Sweden to watch the Dubliners, young men in our 20´s who had recently found their treasures, rented a cottage to stay over close by the concert. I can remember us lowering the average age with a lot in the concert :D Still it was great and totally worth it!

Great voice beautiful song !
My grandad would stand up with hand on heart and belt this out at least once a month, It means so much more to me now he's gone. He also claimed to have Drumcondra's most beautiful voice lol. This song has, And will continue to resonate for many genetations to come. Just beautiful
Lovely song
Love it. But, combined with hearing the song, I can't stop tears.
Thank god for Irishmen!
I know Dromcondra well. My nanny lived on Walsh Road for over 50 years. We were regulars there until her death in the late 90s.
I know the feeling because this is my family song. It reminded my forebears of the struggles that they faced to survive in rural Ireland, and why my grandfather felt that he had no choice but to emigrate from County Cork to the UK in the 1870s.
Brilliant, 35 years ago. Well done Paddy you did good! Thank you
It's really good to hear it when a good singer sings it probably.
Paddy Reilly sings this song with love and emotion
August 2021Still listening to the greatest Irish voice ever fabulous song, an English fan.

Absolutely love this song and I’m Scottish 👍👍👍
Scotland and Ireland have much in common. We have both suffered the wrath of a common enemy. 🏴🇮🇪
Pure brilliant music. Shaking Irish hands from Saint-Petersburg, Russia! I am so much love this song, that’s now I know it’s lyrics

I love many versions of this magnificent tune but Paddy did it best for my taste.
NO ONE COULD SING THIS SONG LIKE !! PADDY REILLY . SIMPLY THE BEST .
The best of them all, he leaves the rest in his wake, excellent!
Never get tired of listening to this song, and this version is so beautiful, what with the voice and the fiddle and tin whistle... very touching indeed.
I am Hungarian, I am living in Leicester, England. But every time I hear this song my heart twisted and I start to cry! 26+6=1
Get in there friend
@Jakob Randy shut up literally negative infinity people care.
Raise in Leicester both parents Irish ☘️. One of my favourite songs that portraits the Irish struggle against the oppressed at that time......

What a wonderful version of one of the most heart breaking songs🇮🇪💚 that voice coupled with the music of the Dubliners just like balm to the heart x

Brings tears to a glass eye. ..
My people have been in Canada for 150 years, but this music touches something deep within me.
It makes my tummy go flip flop. I am a new convert to the DUBLINERS. And I just love their voices and their harmonies. I am a huge fan and will Always play them.

Welcome, you're in for a great, emotional ride :)
I listen to them all the time when I'm not whacking myself off, probably once a month now as my hands a bit sore
Absolutely Brilliant! I never tire from hearing the Dubliners sing this song.
It's actually Paddy Reilly singing.
Accompanied by the Dubliners
What a BRILLIANT!!! voice Paddy has. To me, this is the best version of this wonderful Irish ballad.
I'm not Irish but I can picture the theme of the song. It makes me cry. Can't stop listening to it.
Absolutely heart breaking, my maternal Grandfather was Irish. From Australia
Never tire of listening to this song. Beautiful.
Me neither, it still gives me goose pimples each time I hear it.
Apparently when Billy Connolly went to Australia he was asked by immigration officials if he had a criminal record. He replied I didn’t know you still needed one.
Brilliant
Bloody brilliant. That's the best one I've heard
I herd this song in the irish centre Manchester it did bring a tear to my eye's k🥰
I love this song, I was brought up on ballads from The Dubliners, The wolfetones, The Clancy Brothers and many, many more. Happy New Years to all.
This song always brings tears to my eyes. Go Dubliners!
Have loved the dubliners for some years now. Hope to make a pilligrimage to the pub they started in before I am too much older than my 72 years
Yes your not on your own I intend to make the same trip hopefully soon age 72” will look for dates and place to see the Dubliners
Do you know name of the pub and place
Never fails to make me lament a lost Ireland, this one. How I long for the days of old. Paddy wipes the floor with some who try their soulless covers of this song. 💚🇮🇪💚🇮🇪💚🇮🇪
Best version I've heard, by far the best I've heard Paddy sing it as well, his voice is top notch here as for the whistle just class.
I agree. I love Isla Grant version too.
So beautiful. Nothing beats Irish Folk music.

I saw The Dubliners just once at Norwich Theatre Royal some years ago. Sadly it was their last concert, as Barney passed away about six weeks later. I thank the Lord that at last I got to see them.
As an islander who's under a foreign government law I can only relate to what the lyrics say. Greetings from Sardinia
He has the best voice listing from Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😊😊
Iam a American but love Irish music and this song 🎵
I can never hear this song without crying. Just beautiful.
From Italy with love
Nobody sings it like Paddy. This version is the very best
You are so right Mona. Paddy has a brilliant voice.
Paddy’s version with the Dubliners is the definitive recording of this song.
Same here. Slee scotland
Agreed
This tugs my heart strings so hard. This version has so much emotion as well. This is about the 10th video I've just seen in a row.
Honestly makes me cry every time I hear it
Excellent version, beautiful
I have spent many hours listening to a wide genre of music. It never ceases to amaze me how music, in all its variations, unites us worldwide. Why do we allow ourselves to be divided? We can live and glory in our differences, afterall, what is diversity other than accepting, enjoying and respecting our differences.
Irish music is the best
If everyone agreed with you, there'd be no more hate ... no more intolerance ... no more wars. There'd be peace. Someday???

Oh, the love and suffering of the faithful Irish people. So many true children of Father Patrick.
God loves them and their souls will shine like diamonds in the celestial realm.

Paddy Reilly sings this classic song beautifully
My great grandfather left Limerick City in 1870 and ended up in Texas after a few years. He did not experience the famine. This beautiful and meaningful song is one of the reasons I feel my heart drawn back to Ireland.
I also live in Texas but my heart is in Ireland
Would love to visit Texas. My great grandfather survived the famine as a kid and died in 1917 aged 77! I still live in the same house he lived in.
Probably the best version of the Fields ever recorded....God Bless you Paddy...++++
Absolutely beautiful I just love this song , reminds me of my dear Sister Lucy whom we lost but her spirit is around us .

It was written in 1979
What a most beautiful song, my very favourite. I hope it is many years before God calls me, but when my time comes, I would like it to be sung at my service. God bless Paddy Reily and the Dubliners, Erin Go breath.
Sorry for the spelling mistake I meant Erin go brath. I think I spent tha right
Beautiful, brings tears to my eyes. Makes me sad and proud of my heritage!
I studied in a school run by Irish Christian Brothers and had heard our wonderful teachers singing this song whilst strumming the guitar. The lyrics tugs my heart and I can't help the tears....
Makes me so proud, in the spirit of defiance, but also angry, about the oppression, and the many lives that were shattered by it. Because, I know for sure that this song was first sang in grief
dbomdnb you do know it was written in 1979 and is fictional?
@@rogerbirch914 nope, didn't bother googling. Makes it more amazing for me tbf. The emotion of it is still real. Its only a few generations
This is the anthem of my beloved Munster rugby team
My son is called Michael as was his father before him. His father was from Roscommon. Michael senior passed away when our boy was 8yrs old. This song pulls at my heart strings.
I remember my Dad singing this the last time I saw him
Alice I understand you entirely, I , a Michael, have an uncle, a grandad (whom I lost the day of my confirmation), my great grandad and his father before him, all called Michael. Not only does it give me pride but also shows the history of the Irish. Being called Michael😂
I adore this expecially now when we are at risk of freedom and democracy
GREAT SONG with real meaning ... I am half Irish on my Mothers side from Co. Mayo ... so I can feel this song from inside given past history ... I am PROUD to be half Irish ... have so many really happy memories from my times I spent in Ireland with Family there now sadly gone but always in my heart forever.
This song really speaks to my soul
Beautifully sung
Lovely brings tears im irish decent im from Cleator moor in Cumbria nicknamed little Ireland love this song and many more
If you get the chance, listen to the version Paddy sang this song with the Dubliners in 2003 at the Gaiety. His voice was good in 1985 but I swear to God it was even better in 2003. Also, Dirty Old Town , again in 2003. Absolute magic. I'm 68 and only recently came across this. A lot of wasted time until now.
Paddy it just keeps getting better okda mr Brian
The Dubliners, where talent matters much more than costumes and film star looks. Just wonderful
