A record breaking number of over 5000 people accompanied by 118 tin whistle players came along to take part in this remarkable performance on May 6th 2019 in Athenry, Ireland.
The Amazing Apples, The "King of Ceili", Matt Cunningham, Galway Rose Deirdre O'Sullivan and Special Olympic athlete Áine McDermott led the crowd in this song which is sung by Irish people and people of Irish descent all over the world.
What an inspiring day. What an incredible community. No better way to show the world what The West of Ireland is all about. Please share & spread the positive vibes.

My father ( of Irish descent brought up in Roscommon before spending the rest of his life in England) sang this from his wheelchair whilst being pushed home along narrow street in a town in Majorca at one in the morning. He was 95 years old, sang flawlessly and locals came out to hear him. I was not there but my sister and her husband were with him. When I hear this beautiful song it brings tears to my eyes. RIP Dad💔

My great grandfather was from Athenry, and came to the USA in 1889. I was able to visit his old homestead on a visit to Ireland in 2009, and had the GREAT honor of meeting our cousin, Sean Cannon, who still lived on the property. I have loved this particular song ever since, and it does give me goosebumps and brings tears to the eyes. Its amazing hearing Botany Bay in this song. I’m from melbourne and we have a huge Irish population that goes back to colonial days. I went to Ireland ten years ago and rode along the coast by bike.

Wonderful heartfelt song. It stirs my soul whenever I hear it. You can feel their pain of separating. I loved visiting western Ireland. Must get back over sometime. I was so excited to learn I’m a little Irish on ancestry.
My partner passed away over 30yrs ago. He was Michael born In Roscommon. I miss him every day. I always thought this song perfect.

I was on the ground crew for the quarter final between Ireland and NZ at RWC2019 in Japan and, while the result (an overwhelming victory to the All Blacks) made me happy, the greatest impression from this match was the impassioned singing by the huge contingent of Irish fans singing "The Fields of Athenry" to drown out the ABs' haka totally, There must have been half the 50,000 crowd singing and it was spine-tingling, goose bump-inducing, awe-inspiring. Thank you to all the Irish fans present that day for giving this Kiwi a feel of what watching a test at Lansdowne Road must be like.
