My late wife from Portlaoise loved this song as did I an English man she loved the Dubliners we always tried to see them when ever they were on tour in Cambridge and the South East God Bless them
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Bless you Sir and your dear wifes spirit.
Dublin a wonderful town where i lived for one year, and The Dubliners how great and enjoyable they are!
Happy St Patrick’s Day 2024 💚🍀
The Irish are not geese and they have their own language... oh wait...
This song, this performance, will make Paddy Reilly live forever. Well done yourself!
It’s as if god put this man on Earth to sing this song. So Lovely
paddy you are a legend, nothing else needs to be said
My favorite Irish song of all time - the Dubliners from the heart!
So is mine!❤👍 (Carl from Cologne)
@@carlot7999ciao Carlo!🙋😊😘💘🌅
@@anelladambrosio2513 Ciao, Anella! where are you from? ❤️
And now you're own government is selling you out.
Paddy sings this like no other. He is the master It’s as if the song was written for him. He creates the entire atmosphere. Good on ya Paddy
Only thing smoother than an Irish man is a good pint of Guinness ;)
Ok@@hakmac5346
I listened to this in a homeless shelter now I listen at home love it Paddy
So pleased to hear this.
My story True I'm from Boston so is my wife my family from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤ unfortunately my siblings couldn't care less about me. But I took care of my father he did not trust doctors. He went naturally. Thanks for the response 👍
@brian kearney
I have been scapegoated by the other siblings. They have nothing to do with me.
I don't feel shocked or sad any more. They were all either incredibly selfish or extremely abusive or both.
It has worked out good really. I am very caring and empathetic. I have put up with shocking behaviour.
I really love bring the scapegoat. I cared for my parents intensely for many years. My sisters were jealous of my very close bond with my parents and how much I was trusted. I am also a truthteller and am a lot more srlfreflective and spiritual.
I love being a caring person and no longer have to struggle through all their lovelessness and abuse. I am truly content from what I did for our parents.
And because I can forgive things people can hardly believe, I am truly free.
I just hope you feel that you aren't missing out on much. I know I'm not.
This song here is lovely.
All the best, from New Zealand. Aroha.
Thanks again I'll take your advice 🙂 😊
Good luck to ya Brian...I hope you get sorted mate
Make a person homesick listen to this great music!
This song always brings a tear to my eyes . Fanfeckingtastic .
I was born in the 70s and The Dubliners will always be the band I will think of if I think of Ireland (and I am not in any way connected to that island). They were a legend. Not to take away from other bands before and after, but they showed the world what Irish music is all about: the good and the bad, the drinking and the crying, the dancing and the fighting, love and death...all rolled up into a few minutes of mournful and yet beautiful and uplifting song (or happy, yet depressingly themed reel). I will have to visit the Land of Green one day, possibly before meeting ya all on Fiddlers Green^^
Ķ
Perhaps we can meet on Raglan Road
This song always makes me cry. The heart wrenching lyrics get to me every time. I'm crying right now.
I call it my “goosebump” song, because even just thinking about it makes me bump up! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
Don't cry pet , it's a powerful song no doubt.... as Darby O ' Gill once said , in the end we all have to go...😉
Yes but not to Australia. 😂😂
Used to drink in an Irish pub in Toronto. McVeigh’s Tavern on Church Street. Bands direct from Ireland and no cover charge. This was where I first heard this song, and I absolutely love it! A sad but lovely song about Britain’s abuse of a wonderful people and still rings true! Spent at least two nights/month drinking Harp and eating up the music!
Up the Irish republic 🇮🇪🇮🇪
@@Aaron78888 I worked with an Irish nurse who came over to Canada with the owner of the pub. When she came drinking with us, the Harp and Guinness were a tad cheaper! It’d be more expensive if they were Scots, my personal heritage (my mom) lol.
@@Momcat_maggiefelinefan haha, I mind going on holidays and 9 of us had Irish passports the other 2 has British they where charged to get into Turkey lol
Are you related to Christopher Isherwood?
@@maureenmannion6748 Nope. Used to tell people he was my uncle. They had no idea who Christopher was, and my Dad thought it was hilarious!
My grandfather used to be the main singer of an irish folk band, but he always wanted his buddies to sing some of the songs. Such as this one. This song always brings tears to my eyes in his memory. (RIP Ed Deacy)
My Mams favourite song played at her funeral in 2007 xx Fly with the free birds 🐦 Mam 😇 xx
Beautiful, brings tears to my eyes
Just makes me want to visit the Ireland from where my great grandparents came from. Maybe, just maybe, one day
My grands on my mother's side followed the Cod from Bangor outside of Belfast 1898 or so. The ended up in a Irish enclave in Newfoundland then to Nova Scotia. Scots Irish we are.
Beautifully sung by Paddy Reilly. Love this Irish song 🎵 💚

@@kerrysgold1 it’s not looking good for ol’ Ireland, neither for Norway. We’ll need to stand up, fight for our people and take back our mothers and fathers land. The future will be nasty. I’m afraid wer’e past the time of being nobel - or covards
As an Englishman, when you've had an Athenry Ploughwoman get out of her tractor, link arms with you and sing this, nothing can top it!
I would be weeping.
