Sina Theil and Caitríona O’Sullivan celebrate a number 1 single in the main Irish charts and also Irish Country charts with the first female released duet of the iconic song “The Fields of Athenry” to mark International Women’s Day week and St. Patrick’s Day.
“There’s a very powerful female story within this beautiful yet heartbreaking song; the story of a mother left alone to fight for her and her young children’s survival during the Great Famine of Ireland. A fate that, sadly, is still a reality for many women around the world today.”
“The Fields of Athenry” is available on all major download and streaming sites: linktr.ee/sinatheil

So blown away with the support and love on here for Sina and I's performance of 'The Fields of Athenry'. I know Sina really appreciates and so do I. Thanks a million guys for your kind comments, so happy you enjoyed our singing and video. Grá mór, Caitríona xx
Awesome, awesome, awesome! From someone who has just lately learned of her Irish ancestry! So proud! You guys rock!
lesanglais lesrosbifs
they have caused more damage to the world than any other race
You both deserve all the praise you get Caitriona. From an older Irish man living in Boston 33 years. I’m not ashamed to say I shed a small tear during your recital!!😘
@@tonymurray814 thank you so much Tony. Really appreciate your kind words
I am from Mexico and I love the brave Irish people... their history, their beautiful country, their music and their beer... I will surely visit Ireland one day
Absolutely! The green Emerald Isle will welcome you like only she can 🍀
Batallón de San Patricio!!!
Exactly my friend! Saw the One Man Hero movie??
@@SinaTheilMusic Thank you! I first approached Irish history through the novel TRINITY
I am from Ireland and I visited Mexico often on business. I was treated like family and I loved the Mexican people; so like Irish people in many ways😊😊
A native German, Ireland is the home of my heart, and I still plan to move to this island someday. And I just love this kind of music Thanks a million, Ladies, and please do more music together. 👍
Only the Germans helped the Irish. Supplied guns. We Gaels have not forgotten. God bless Germany.
And Ireland as well, pretty please, Mightty Lord. 🙂
Brilliant thanks
I have since my 20s listened to Irish music on and off. Athenry fills me up and makes me cry even in my now late years. I have no idea why. My late father was from East Wall Dublin and Ive always had an interest in the Irish/English history. I served in the RN with Irish guys ( and worked for Irish firms as a machine driver when I became a civvy in the 70s) and at one time our ship went to Derry and we were out on an exercise and put into a small coastal town ( cant remember the name) on the edge of Donegal and anchored off. I was lucky to have gotten ashore in the liberty boat with about 14 others and headed for the nearest pub. A great storm blew up. A force 10 gale. They couldnt get us off so we stayed in the pub where the locals fed us and kept us in the black stuff all night. It was a massive party everyone was steaming. They had music as well and I knew a few rebel songs and these old guys kept coming over and giving me a hug. I had one hell of a hang over next day when the boat came in to get us off. Ill never forget it but I was only just 17 at the time.
BEATIFULLY STATED! LADIES
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
My favourite Irish song sung by the most beautiful Irish ladies. Thank you for making this special song even more beautiful.❤
You ladies are beautiful, talented and sing with such love and harmony and feel melancholy for the good old days! I just stumbled on to your videos on UA-cam and loved your rich, warm and very homely sound. Please keep singing and entertaining us with such beautiful Irish songs!!😀💕❤🙏
I'm in a shanty choir and one of our songs is "The Fields of Anthery", it's a song about a tragic event during the hunger crisis in Ireland. it is beautifully sung in two voices by Sina Tell and Caitriona O'Sullivan.
"Nothing matters Mary when you're free" One of the greatest lines in all of Irish music.
This is my favourite Irish song. Having been married to a Kilkenny woman for over 35 years before she passed.
Yank here, married to a lady with roots in County Clare. She sings this to me regularly. So sorry for your loss of your.
My great grandfather left Roscommon in the famine. Moved to Boston and dominated the primary care health scene in South Boston south end for next generation. Ireland strong!,
This song, the way the musicians play and the way these ladies sing so beautifully along with the sad tale they sing about always brings a lump to my throat. Gorgeous music!!
Thanks for listening! Please share!
When I here this song it reminds me of my nan and grandad who despite both being Scottish have Irish ancestry and went to a local Irish club where I grew up and when this was sung my grandad would sing along and it brings a tear to my eye as I remember them as they are no longer with us ❤❤❤❤
I am English, my wife from Hospital, County Limerick.
Six Nations Rugby aside we get on “shoulder to shoulder”!
*I couldn't find a video with lyrics, but alas:*
"By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling...
"Michael, they have taken you away...
For you stole Trevelyan's corn,
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay..."
Low lie the fields of Athenry,
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling,
'Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free...
Against the famine and the crown
I rebelled; they cut me down
Now you must raise our child with dignity.'
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
By a lonely harbour wall,
She watched the last star falling,
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky...
For she lived in hope and pray,
For her love in Botany Bay...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
Low lie the fields of Athenry,
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry..."
My dad came from Cork and fought the Black and Tans for Ireland’s freedom. There history of repression is very sad.
Great song lovely sung by the 2 girls. The Brits did many bad things in Ireland for many many decades and also to many other countries around the world .
How beautiful! My Gram left for the USA during this period alone at age 15. She never spoke of the loneliness starvation and hurt. You sang this so touchingly and humanly THANK YOU Go mbeannaí Dia thú araon
Amazing performance of Ireland’s soulful music……thank you both! God Bless Ireland and Happy St. Patrick’s day to you all!
Thank you and happy St. Patrick’s Day! Please share the video if possible 🍀

I'm English and our history is tragic. I can't believe how beautiful these ladies are. What a song.
Does the tragedy include helping to get rid of Hitler
@@djw1421 That's a very interesting point as Alan Clarke wrote in a book pointing out the option we had of 'siding' with the Germans for the Anglo-Saxons are Germanic, and Hitler didn't want to fight us. He thought we were bungling idiots, which we are, but we did prevent the Americans from speaking Japanese (which eludes them) since had we done so, the Russians would have been rapidly quashed and the USA would have stood alone. But either way... we lost, destroyed our Empire, crippled ourselves and didn't pay off war debts until 2006.
Who cares what Hitler thought about the British. That foolish coward committed suicide.
@@johnbobson1557 Yes you helped us americans from speaking japanese lol good one.
@@johnbobson1557You appear quite delusional there. Oh well never mind. FYI our history I’d far from tragic.
Great vocal ranges on both women. This song touches my soul. Such suffering. Another time and place.
Thanks so much for the comment and support! Please make sure to find us both on social media and share the video if you can 😊
Greetings from Canada. Of Irish and Scottish decent, I hope I live long enough to see Ireland one country again. Beautiful singing ladies. Thank you.
As an Englishman, frequenting an Irish members club as often as I do, I've heard this song a million times, sang dozens of different ways. But this one brought me to tears. Cracking job, ladies. Erin Go Bragh! 🥲
Thank you very much for your support! Please share if you can 🙂
OMG !!! Beautiful ! And two beautiful ladies singing it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two historic events that are not taught in my country of the UK. The HIghland Clearances in Scotland and The Great Famine in Ireland. Growing up as a child of Scotland in the 1970s, where even my local language of Doric was discouraged in school; I now understand why we were taught about other 'great' events. The two world wars and the industrial revolution. It's never too late to learn the shameful events.
I understand your feelings. My family emigrated from Ireland to Lancashire in UK like so many other Irish, due to an Gorta Mór. I have never even been to Ireland, or had the chance to learn the Gaelic. But there is another shameful event: Cromwell's intended genocide of the Irish people. In England they even have statues of that murdering bastard, streets are named after him, there is even a portrait of him in their parliament. In Germany they at least have the inner decency not to have a portrait of Adolf Hitler in the Bundestag, or to have any streets named 'Adolf-Hitler-Strasse'.
Lest we forget !!
the great difference is: Hitler lost. So his bad deed was seen. The bad deeds of the winners are called victory.
Sad. very sad.
GREAT music!! Sung by GREAT singers, from the land of my ancestors.
We lived and worked in Ireland for 12 years and loved it some great music sessions in the pubs learnt to play the bodhran so could join in. We moved on but would move back if it was possible.
In my old age, I sure find myself being attracted to Irish country music. What a splendid performance.
And probably attracted to these beautiful Irish ladies, yeah?
@@terencemageeShhh, don't tell anyone.
@@jayjaynella4539 This is Irish traditional music, or folk music. Not 'country' music.
Apart from this being a great song, the singing is exquisite. Well done lassies
This song I have loved for three million years but when you sing I choke and hold back tears i am still hoping I will see you live I am not a stalker I just LOVE music and you are Music love and best Wishes Kinnon.
It's amazing to hear our beautiful language spoken fluently 🇮🇪☘️💚🤍🧡☘️🇮🇪
I love the sound of women's voices in that alto range.
Every time I hear this it chills my heart as hunger still exists and the children still pay the price in suffering!
Keep singing beautiful Irish dongs ladies. Nice harmony and beautiful telated backgrounds. I may not have the opportunity to visit Ireland but looking at you beautiful ladies plus the scenic backgrounds tells me Ireland is a beautiful historic country!

Never heard this version but what a version it is
I am just watching this again and just realized 1of you you was speaking Gaelic what a lovely sounding language
A wonderful version of the old folk song...! I can't imagine that about 1.000.000 irish people died because of starving from 1845-49! Thanx to you both Sina & Caitriona ! Well done! 🥰
And another 1,000,000 or more had to leave everything behind and emmigrate in harsh conditions to save their lives...
Up The Rebels. Beautiful voices, beautiful ladies.
Brings tears to my eyes. God Bless Ireland.
WE also enjoy it especially around St. Patricks' Day here in the Midwest USA

Amazing song, and sung by two amazing singers. I got goosebumps listening to it.
Only the Irish could sing a song like this, and these two ladies give it the justice it deserves.
Well said mate! Regards from Queensland, Australia
These two ladies may indeed give it the justice it deserves, but a bit of contradiction in the comment though, as Sina Theil is German
United Ireland is on its way. Progress cannot be denied.
As an Irish Republican northern Ireland who lost a father to the Brits. This song is nice and hopefully one day Ireland will be unified.
A united Ireland is my dream too! I am so very sorry to hear about your dad ...
Beautiful just Beautiful ❤
My Grandparents are from Scotland and Ireland. I've heard some stories from them especially my Dad's parents who were from Ireland. It's no wonder there are so many in Ireland with ill feelings toward Britain!
So lovely to hear on St. Patrick's Day 2024

One of most beautiful Irish song by two beautiful ladies with a magic voice... thanks so much from France
This showed up somewhat randomly in my UA-cam feed. I was blown away with the beautiful harmonies. I share it with my wife and father in law and the played over a few times, the enjoyed it so much. Absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing with the world.
Thanks so much! Delighted that you like it and please have a look at this new video that’s just been released on my channel: ua-cam.com/video/yg2mBf8voIw/v-deo.html
I've been to Ireland about 6 times and loved the pubs with irish music playing and loved every minute of it my great grandad came from Ireland birthplace unknown I think it might have been about the time of the potatoe famine so that's where the blood in came from I'm so proud❤❤❤
This song is about love and what you take for granted until it has gone ! The first time I heard it was in Tenerife by an Irish lady called Michelle, I went In the Bullshead every night just to hear her sing it and fell in love with irish singers and folklore such as Luke Kelly . This is a very lovely cover Thankyou 😍
Ok
This too
These are 2 of the most beautiful women in the world of UA-cam
2 beautiful 😍 irish women singing this great song
Beautiful. Never heard a bad cover of this. Probably Ireland's finest.
I love this song. Beautifully rendered by 2 ,young women.
I’m Scottish but Irish grand parents won’t get involved with politics but would love to see a united Ireland
Me too, bless you Danny.
This song has a special value for my entire family because I am an Australian of Irish descent from both my mother and father. I hope and pray that I will see a united Ireland before I die. I'm sure the entire world Irish diaspora would welcome and be thrilled to see Ireland reunited as one nation.
And would those Irish who hope and pray for Irish Unity come back home to the Island of Ireland and resettle here?
Its none of your business whether Ireland reunites or not. It's for the people who live there to decide. You diaspora types should stick to your own countries and stop interfering

A beautiful country and amazingly nice people…
Paddy Reilly's versions have been my favorites so far, but now I've found a perfect and heart-touching rendition.
Thank you! His version is indeed beautiful, so we feel honoured!
Particularly, the one from a pub after someone’s Funeral, with many joining in on the choruses and several musicians playing along.
Agree
Beautiful, beautiful song and as Scot, 🏴, I have often wondered if an ancestor who was deported to Aus made it.
I reall enjoy Celtic woman also
beautiful voices
I can listen to this song a thousand times, and it still sounds beautiful.
still, love this song
From England. Have many friends north and south of the border, have also studied Irish history. We both live on very small islands off the coast of Europe. Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland share a brutal but shared past. We are probably the most culturally diverse piece of land in the world. That saying ….Poke one with a stick and the other three will respond in support!
I'm middle aged and enjoyed this rendition by two beautiful ladies. Is Mis le mis -Shawn
What a beautiful song i had to listen to it twice running it pulled at my heart strings ❤

Thank you for listening! Please share if you don’t mind 🍀
My favourite song to sing. 12% Irish ancestory x
Lovely tune of some broken times.
Love the song and appreciate the history but I find it difficult why we should live in the past. I have lived in the north all my life as a proud unionist with lots of republican friends and I hope to live my life out without any change.
One of the most beautiful collaborations I’ve ever seen ❤️
What a fabulous pair of voices. I have heard this song before, but these ladies are WAY above anyone else. Ladies, thank you for your rendition...................Simpl the best
