Jaime Gibb the real figure for the American video was 21 out of 36 were found. But the video gets remade, when people are found they are taken off and a new missing person is put on. The video is also edited for every country it is shown in to show local missing people.

In another video where they reacted to this song, I found out that most of the people in the various versions of this video have been found (they made different versions for different countries and updated it as people were found). One person didn't want to be found, since she'd run away from an abusive home (I think it was) and didn't want to go back.

Yep, she wrote to the band years later to thank them for forcing her to go back to a living hell. In the British/Euro version which I was watching in 1993 little did I know that two of the missing women were actually victims of a serial killer & were buried in a garden within about a 30 minute walk from my house in 1991-they weren't discovered until 2007, the guy who did it was at that point already in prison for murdering another woman in 2006. He is suspected of other murders stretching back possibly to the 1960's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Tobin#

You can look up here on youtube, The Missing People Choir, they were on Britain's Got Talent a couple years ago. They were started by a man who's son had gone missing, and he began the choir to give himself and other loved ones of missing people an outlet to some of the feelings they had about things. They did a similar format with the video montage behind them highlighting missing people...some of the cases highlighted were actually missing loved ones that had connections to people in the choir.

Back around 1992/1993, this video was credited with helping find several of the kids who were featured. Soul Asylum and MTV worked together and began updating/changing the faces of young people who had gone missing (sometimes for more than a decade before the song/video was released) across America.
Not only are they great musicians, but they did a beautiful thing without solely seeking to advance their careers.

Some have been located, some were deceased, some never have been located.... There was one girl who was located because her case was highlighted in the video...she actually wrote to the band and told them they ruined her life. Her home life had been abusive and she ran away from home and was living with her boyfriend, where she was actually safe. And once she was located, she was returned home, right back to the abuse she had left behind.

This song and video are why I always look at the board at Walmart that has pictures of missing people. You never know if you might see them and could possibly help. This song resonates. Big time.

According to Kaye, 26 missing children were found after being featured in the video. In 2006, guitarist Dan Murphy stated in an interview with Pasadena Weekly that some of the cases featured in the video had ended in tragedy: "Some weren't the best scenarios. This being before social media just makes this song/video a masterpiece

There were three original versions of this video in the US, totaling 36 missing children shown.
The children shown varied with the location of the broadcast, using missing children from that area.
Tony Kaye, the director of the music video, has since stated that 26 featured missing children have returned home since the video aired.

This song touched me before video... I never saw video til years later... I was on a bus fleeing my home... it was horrible there but I also felt lost...like I had nowhere to go, nowhere to go back to, and no options. Though I loved they put missing children on this, I remember listening on a greyhound bus, with all the money I could scrape up to flee my family life... I knew there was no one to help now, and as the states passed, I got scared and thought, I'm in too deep there's no way back... this song meant a lot to me. As trivial as song was, it hit at a moment on a bus...running scared from abuse...
