Many of these kids were recovered because of this song. 36 kids were profiled. 21 were recovered. This song was redone to help find more kids. And by the way. Most kids run away because of sexual abuse. In 1975, that was my beloved sister. She was gone for 18 months. Since then, there have been snippets where she’s shared what happened. As a family we were lucky. She CAME BACK.

I almost always tear up when I hear this song, especially because of the video. I had a good friend when I was in junior high school that ran away in 1979. I never knew what became of him. Grammy for Best Rock Song in 1993. The 90s had many great bands and singers that really tried to use their music to call attention to important issues--Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs), REM, Sinead O'Connor, Concrete Blonde, The Cranberries, Tracey Chapman--it was kind of like the late 60s all over again. It was the last hurrah before corporations completely took over music to promote nothing more than image. A few popular singers still try to create transformational music today, but not enough--there is much more to write about than getting laid or partying or being a "bad bitch."

You're doing so many songs from my childhood. I was a teen and loved soul asylum!

Know what you got me thinking of now? Gin Blossoms. I loved them a lot more than Soul Asylum. Soul Asylum was good, i won't challenge that but "Allison Road" "Hey Jealousy" "Til I hear it from you" and countless others were my go to for melancholy. Thanks for reminding me of them. Check out Gin Blossoms. Pretty please.

This song meant a lot to me as a teenager. I was basically a chronic runaway. I didn't have bad parents. I had really bad depression and honestly my parents did everything they could to help me. I still thought I could run away from my problems. No matter how far away I ran, there I was.

I listen to this song at least once a day when I feel down.

I watched that video back in 1993.
Even today. I still can't stand those missing kids if they ever already found.

Whether about missing and exploited kids, or the songwriter's profound depression, this is a very powerful song. Thanks Jayvee for listening.

I was a pre-teen or early teen when this came out, it scared me... haven't seen this video for over 20 years, but some of the scenes are printed in my brain, I teared up watching it again, all the memories came right back, it was such an important video, actually many of the people were found because of this musucvideo
