I was one of them. Beaten to unconsciousness, forced to punch myself in the face repeatedly as a 10 year old, forced to stand in a corner for 14 hours a day for days on end, so at 12 I had enough and chose to be homeless instead of enduring that any further. The horror I experienced from that point on was just as bad. I survived but at a heavy cost. The pain i experience daily, the nightmares, the lack of sleep, the injuries I sustained, are so much that no one would even believe my story. No one on this planet. The biggest tragedy in my life is that. To ensure the horror that is my life, survive it, and have EVERY single person in life tell me I am a liar, THAT is the worst thing. Fractured skull, 4 broken noses, fractured hip, permanently injured collarbone, broken foot, hundreds of stitches, nerve damage, cervical spine damage, broken foot, collapsed lung, internal bleeding, broken hand several times, run over by a car, 3 intensive care unit visits. That was all before I even hit 21. I have no family. NONE. No one to turn to for help. Zero. I have me. I deal with feeling like I am a bad ass which I am, try me, to curling up in a ball and crying because I have nothing. This song? I grew up watching this song. THIS SONG IS ME. ONLY I WAS NEVER FOUND BECAUSE NO ONE EVER WANTED ME. FROM BIRTH.

There were several versions of this video, redone for the zoning of the States and again for UK and Australia. They've even done a more recent version of the song & video, covered by new artists. Keep getting the message out there!

This band went above and beyond to help these families and children all over the world.
I spent 6 months homeless on the street I've seen alot n lived through alot my heart goes out to all the families that lost family members n children
This video actually helped to find several children and got them reunited with their families. As time went on they would change the pictures of the missing children so they could help more kids be found.
This music video was responsible for a bunch of runaway and missing kids finding their way home. They featured different missing kids in different cities around the country, depending on where they were missing from, and it helped bring some of them home. Love you Rick

In the UK we are having people of a particular race, colour and religion that are running massive child grooming gangs. The police knew all about it, but did nothing for fear of being accused of being racist.

My heart is broken for all the families that have to deal with this. I have a kid and could never imagine the pain and anguish that parents go thru when their life is taken away.It's a shame it's a normal. We need to protect our kids. Peace love and mercy
It hits hard, but it brings out what can happen. So many people are reduced to tears by not only the song, but the video showing actual missing kids. Some may not want to be found. I know I didn't, but being in the military it was hard to hide, everyone thought I was an arsehole, but nobody knew why. One day in '81 I had had enough of the abuse at home, and walked out and never went home or had contact with the family until my parents were dead. Seen two of my sisters once since '88, and went no contact again. Nothing had changed.
I think this came out in 1993 but I could be wrong! Soul Asylum were trying to throw a light on this situation and maybe help find some of the people shown. It was a way to get these faces across the country.

It is undeniably heartbreaking the reality of children being lost. Kids dying, trafficking, running away because of abuse…..positively horrifying. My brother and I were some of the lucky ones. We were removed by the police had put into foster care, we had the blessing of being adopted into a loving family. This could have been us though had no one intervened, I am so grateful we were spared this. Also, don’t ever be sorry to show emotion and empathy, they are beautiful qualities.

Soul Asylum along with this video has helped bring awareness to Missing and Exploited Children. And helped bring some of those in the video home, as well as thousands of others. Agreed, it was a message to those thinking about running away that it was a dangerous proposition and to reconsider what might happen to you on the street. Find any other way to deal with what was happening in your life. It was a continued messaging from the 80s of all the drug and suicide warning songs in my opinion, because there were a lot of them. We were raising ourselves back then with our music and I think the musicians really picked up on that and helped with their messaging in their music.

I didn’t know about what this was really about until recently. I was overseas at that time, 92-93. I listened to a woman who was a run away at this time. She hitched a ride with a guy who turned out to be a serial rapier/killer that she escaped from

I have always loved this song. But, I was surprised when I first saw the video and seen run away kids and not an actual train.
The lead singer wrote this song when he was extremely depressed. It was supposed to be about depression, but, he ended up writing about kids running away from home.
They use different pictures wherever they play, what missing people in the area they play at.❤

1993 was when the song came out. The video was changed when released around the world to show some missing from each country it was released in. America had the highest number of missing featured in the video found. Unforuntetlly the same was not for so many other countries.

Mate, during my life I have lost 5 people to suicide. The first was my best friend's Mum who I knew all my life, the richest, most successful family in the village. She waved her son & his friends off to college, even gently mocking my friend who had dyed his hair and it went orange instead of Aladdin Sane. She went missing later that day, her body was recovered from the river 6 weeks later.

I lost my best friend in HS from suicide. I went to combat in 2007, I promised the families of my squad I would bring them all home safe: I did. But a lot of them are gone now, suicide in prison or in hiding like me. 😢😢❤

@@brendacrappel2936 It was definitely 93. I was in middle school when it came out and it reminded me of my sister who preferred living in foster care than living with her family. She had all sorts of emotional/mental depression going on.
