If I remember correctly, Pipe Dream was released as a showcase demo for ATI brand graphics cards. This demo was the actual assets performing in real time instead of a pre-rendered video. If you could get your hands on this demo, you could create your own Pipe Dream animations using the actual 3D assets from the animation. I'm guessing that's how this was made.
Somewhere I have an archive of most of the older ATi demo's and screensavers. This one specifically was to showcase the new R300 architecture in the Radeon 9700. Development of R300 was heavily derived from the GameCube's GPU, however the GC is half the size with half the clocks. There's a possibility it could handle this from a feature level but would definitely be slow.
I always wished we'd get them to release an open version of the sets for these, because they're all MIDI driven, so theoretically as long as all the notes you plug into it are within the ranges they've animated for, it should be plug and play with just some camera work needed.

The model was ripped from an official Animusic graphics demo app for Windows (it’s the only model they’ve made available) but I’m currently working on remaking the model and animations for a different Animusic video
Everything about this is so well thought out: - The same pacing, tempo and key as Pipe Dreams 1 - The transition into castle theme - And most of all, the fact that the whole franchise of Mario revolves around going up and down pipes!
Finally. Animusic memes. Dad got their first DVD with al these animated songs when I was a kid and I watched them over so many times. Pipe Dream here was easily the most memorable and memeable. This must've come out over 20 years ago by now damn.
My favorite part about this ISN'T the basically one-for-one recreation of the original set in a different engine, but how amazing the arrangement is. It feels like Lytle himself did it.

I’ve been rewatching this every few weeks now since it’s been released and I’m still amazed every time how well you recreated the set and absolutely revamped the vibe for a totally different song. I kept thinking the vibe of the instruments reminded me of a song I already knew and I finally realized: SimCity3000’s Sim Broadway (the theme for the game) would absolutely fit in with this and it would be awesome and so nostalgic for so many of you did a recreation with the Pipe Dream set or similar.

agreed. if you didn't pay close attention to the size of the cords/strings/tubes you would swore this is the original.
I was fully prepared for someone just editing music over the footage from the original, but you full on did the animation.
It's just a 3d midi. So it's not as complex as you think. But still glad they put in the effort
