Haha!! I learned everything I needed to know from Frank! When I saw his first instructional video it made me realize I could incorporate so many of Frank's revolutionary and unique concepts into my own playing using hybrid picking it changed my life. I recently interviewed Frank on my UA-cam channel talking about this very thing. He's been such a great friend and inspiration to me for so many years now. Frank is a true original and comparable to Allan Holdsworth for me. Such a singular voice on the instrument. He completely redefined it for me. Please check out Frank's online school and all his instructional material. It's a wealth of amazing information that I've benefitted from. Cheers, Brett.
Very gracious Brett 🙏 you've both got that smooth fusion flow, both masters in our opinion. Here's the link to the Gambale interview ua-cam.com/video/i52HSjTcELs/v-deo.html
Get watching people!
Both equally inspiring.. Brett you’re not only the great player but also the humblest … 🙏
You are one of my top three brother!!! Love your playing and compositions
Brett you are an inspiration, giving Frank the nod here is both gracious and refreshing- Frank simply is the best educator i have seen and his concepts are both original and cover a vast spectrum both harmonically and rhythmically....i should say while you may be inspired by Frank and many others, you have your own unique voice
Man the humility. This is why you guys are legends of the game!
And the winner is us, the audience.
I discovered Shawn Lane, Frank Gambale, and Brett Garsed on the same day when I downloaded the first MVP record. That was one of the best days of my life.
Exactly!!! Same here!
Hey Tee Bone is wild. That's how I discovered these guys
Fusion aside, theres nothing like Brett rocking out to a full house music festival in Australia with the John Farnham band!
Plus Brett is an awesome slide player
Seeing Frank up close each week in open counseling sessions when I attended G.I.T. I can say he's even more amazing than these clips show. For example students would come in & ask to play songs out of the real book & it didn't matter what they picked he would just open up the book & without hesitation he would play the song & shred solos at crazy speeds as he went through all the key & chord changes & still make it all sound good & effortless without any prep. Seeing how fluid he was is what got me to switch to using economy picking up until then I was using alternate.
Great story! Thanks for sharing it mate - I'm sure you had a great time at GIT.
@@BestBackingTracks yeah it was a great time in addition to Frank, Paul Gilbert & Jennifer Batten were also teachers there when I went if you or anyone else is interested in what it was like here is a playlist of 9 videos in which I talk about & teach examples from different classes & the instructors 👍ua-cam.com/play/PLB5zOX-8bVd1tajDA3SaaIN5aCBEzLKDK.html
Not a single Joule of excessive energy is wasted, no matter how complex the stuff they play is. They are both so ridiculously good, buth musically and technically, it's just insane.
FG is the king....no question about it.......
Who could pick 2 Monsters although I think Gambale would handle changes better.
From a standpoint of versatilty, technique, craftmanship, musicality...come on, these guys are on the top notch level. Unique players with their own distinct voice.
From a standpoint of influence for others it is pretty clearly Frank. He really brought sweeping / economy picking to wider attention and still is the reference point. No doubt.
Both insane talents
Garsed all the way....
His style is so unique...
I like Brett the edge because Allen Holdsworth is one of my favorite guitar players and Brett is obviously influenced by him. His phrasing is just so good. Gambale I love watching because he makes me laugh because of his really fast descending arpeggios. It's unique and insane. NO ONE can copy that. Frank is like "watch me shread". Love both tho.
These guys are both so freaking phenomenal!
If I had remotely a fraction of either of their skills, I could die happy! 😂
Not easy, but I’ll have to give this to Frank.
I give Frank the edge, he's been one of my favorite players since I was 14.
Nobody plays arpeggios, and mixes scale fragments like Frank. He's a one of a kind, truly unique player.
Matteo Mancuso.
@@Fearzerovery dry. fluidity ok but no proper accent.
@@user-px5pj7ux5k Al Dimeola disagrees.
Allan Holdsworth
I WIN because I watched this.
Frank has more concept behind his playing, both are great players.
thank you!
Mr holdsworth wins by a mile. Oh darn he's not there
and he is not an Aussie either.
Two of G.OA.T! i love this guys, they are so amazing and revolutionary!
I didn't know Joe Pesci could shred like that.😆
HOLDSWORTH!!!
Two completely different approaches to guitar playing. I can't compare the two. They're both legendary in their own way. I couldn't choose which one is better they're both amazing.
Frank Gambale & Brett Garsed are both SUPERHUMAN!!!!!!!!!
Night & Day!!!
They are both the best!!!!!
That is my opinion & I'm sticking with it!!!!!!
Frank's incredible but he doesn't speak to me. Brett is just phenomenal while touching that special place.
Brett Garsed. Smoother and more accurate. Gambale does too much sweep picking.
Yeah gambale play is not melodic, just shred. Boring to hear.
2:24 wins it for me
Frank can even blow his own mind with his playing.
Nope I don't like it. No melodic in his playing, just technically. I more like Guthrie govan, or Brett in this context.
@@mixmixture7049 This comment has absolutely no relevance to what I said.
Both AUSSIES, both are gods.! Enough said..OI..OI..OI..💖💖🤘🤘🤘🤘
Love Frank and always have. But NOBODY touches Brett's phrasing and note choice and his insane ability to go super-legato. Shame he looks unconscious up there.
Garsed is incredibly fluid with his legato, but Gambale has the dynamics, speed, attack, and overall musically delightful phrasing with tightly controlled precision…. he wins in my book
Both are incredible players, that I have been listening to for over thirty years. However, Brett's note choice, and phrasing has always piqued my ears, and touched my heart more. Also, Brett has composed some truly beautiful, and majestic music.
The Force is strong with these ones!!!
Can we please applaud Chick Corea with the Keytar?
Please feature The Mighty Allan Holdsworth thanks!
Gambale is proof that you don’t need to have large hands to play great. He is hardly ever stretching across more than 4 frets . I use a lot of sliding ( great tip from Brett) to add extra notes.
Gambale hands down!!!!
Jeez!!! In fairness, I'm pretty sure there are not too many people "better" than Frank. I mean, tone, fast, clean, articulate playing and phrasing, with intricate lines, and great feel. To have the skill, musicality and playing ability of either would be the wildest fantasy come true. Respect and admiration for both guys.
Probably I belong to the minority, but I enjoy Brett Garsed's music more. So Brett Garsed is my choice.
He actually has melody.
Garsed doesn't need a wig, so he's the winner
Lol guitar battle! Right... well, both cats are top hands. For my ears, I give Brett the edge, compositionally. Grateful to witness such mastery from both musicians. I've enjoyed seeing Frank with Chick back in the day.
On centrifugal funk album for me brett got the most tasty solos, obiously gambale is more oriented to a jazz improvisation. Check that album, Shawn lane also feature on some songs.
The last clip of Gambale is a mere display of monstrous technique with zero feel.
in the examples you chose Brett seems to phrase over static chords unlike Frank Gamble is shredding through moving chords as the bebop guitarist would, but with modern sensibilities approach and the melodic minor.😊
As a long time player, I remember Frank from a young age, lesson after lesson! My vote is for Frank🤗✌️
Gambale guitar IQ 250
Frank is the man!
Garsed is a very good player , But Gambale is some more special : incredabele , i like both
I apologize for being so blunt but: they're both pretty good, do they really need to fight?
Gambale is fusion, innovation and technique. But garsed is much more melodic and a placer to ear
Lol! There can be only one! Well, I would give this one to Frank. I first heard him on his "Live!" album, I was like what the fuck?!? His stuff reaches a certain critical density that for me puts him over the top. I love the Centrifugal Funk record that Brett, Frank and Shawn did, on that one, Shawn wins the battle!
Shawn wins!
ua-cam.com/video/3kenw9f2-Ks/v-deo.html@@joseph2707
Frank is just on another level and his economy picking technique is used by so many great players. Not that Brett isn't a monster because he is but for me frank is just from another planet
For me they both r insane. I'll pick brett coz the melody is catchy to my ears. Frank Gambale is too much, hard to catch
I would pick Gambale. Garsed is probably a more technical player but it's like watching paint dry. He just stands there like a statue. Gambale is entertaining while he shreds. I give the edge to Gambale.
Garsed more technical than gambale? I don't think so.
i don’t care about entertaining. i care about guitar playing.
Definitely Gambale, more on the rock side of fusion, and a picking beast
I don't even need to hear it. No one can touch Frank now that Holdsworth is gone. Frank sits alone at the top of the guitar player tower.
How about Yngwie against Guthrie or Shawn Lane? On this video I prefer Gambale even if Garsed is a great player also.
We win.
I prefer Brett in a rock setting, but still great at fusion.
Kotzen vs Greg Howe next please :)
Fortunately, I don't have to pick:)
Frank is the king !!!
brett's a great player too
Frank Gambale win...Flawless Victory
Frank Gambale is a technical genius and generally a great improviser. Brett Garsed is a rather inventive melodic genius.
Garsed Is God improvising.
To be perfectly err frank, I'm giving it to Frank, one of the best sweepers in the bizz.🤘🇦🇺❤️
Brett
The winner is Frank Gambale
Gambale
Definitely Gambale!🍻
Frank Gambale 👍👍🎸
Hard choice. Both have something cool to say. I can't decide. 🤔
I would pick Matteo Mancuso
No way...He's absolutely phenomenal but he just lacks the "mighty touch" (Gambale has it). Same goes for Guthrie, he lacks it too.
How Many récords Mancuso has?
Both wins, but I do like more Brett Garsed
Gambale....The Best.....!!!!
Frank is the Master!
Or just listen to them play together along with shawn lane on the mark varney project
Gambale=Garsed=God=Australian
Leave ozone alone
Silly comparison!
Gamble is more than a rock one vamp man shredder . Frank can phrase like that over jazz standards ( seen him do it plenty of time) Not just a static 9th
I give the nod to Brett, he has a more rock foundation, and has moved to fusion and dominated, that said, Gambale always blows my mind when I hear him, but the constant sweeping gets old and a little over the top for me after a few tunes, Brett seems a little more inventive.
Brett sounds more like Holdsworth
Brett lacks a bit of "let's go and kick some asses", he's too gentle and monotone...
hahahahahaha... Frank is GOD, but to say that about Brett??? How many Brett records you have listen to?
@@franciscojavier9739 Enough to say what I say.
@@danle3181 Have you listen to Alien Hip Hop solo? Avoid the void? If Only, Big Sky, Breathe????
Mate, I have seen Brett live a few times here in Sydney, and whatever you can find here in YT pales in comparison to what I witnessed those nights. Nothing quite like what you hear in the records but a gazillion times better.
@@myguitarjourney9506 So what ? I prefer Gambale, period.
Frank is incredible, and a huge influence of mine.
But oh God… his tone does him NO favors! It really muddies up his playing.
Frank
I really like brett, but can he tame a robotic kangaroo like frank can? Doubtful 😆
Player 2 by ko in the third round
Frank,by a nautical mile,in my opinion.
frank!
this one Gambale just sounds less typical more unique and the obvious more interesting guitarist look at Chicks face ! lol , not to take away from from Garsed he is very good a little more legato , but we all now Allen Holdsworth already won it all in that way !
It’s not a competition.
competition is a good thing, it seperates winners and people who strive to achieve from the losers who want a trophy for last place.
@@uraniumcranium2613 Music is an art form. You express yourself on your instrument. It’s about creating an enjoyable listening experience. Only inexperienced dweebs who are trying to impress others worry about winning and losing and turn it into a competition. Let the music do the talking.
Frank Gambale Easily.
The other guy sounds like maybe one of Gambales B+ level students, who was influenced by him.
* He sounds like someone trying to copy Frank Gambale.
Both are Great, but Gambale seems to have the “experience polish” that I’m not hearing in the other guy.
* Certainly a great player, but I just hear someone trying to imitate a lot of what Frank Gambales already been doing. 🤷♂️
Hahahaha... Brett trying to copy Gambale??? BR3TT major influence is Allan Holdsworth not Frank. Frank is one of my guitar gods, but he is not related to Bretts sound.
@@franciscojavier9739Gambale is a huge influence for Brett
@@HeavyProfessor Holdsworth Is a huge influence for Yngwie AND Michael Romeo and they dont sound like him...
@@HeavyProfessor I know Frank Is God to Brett, but it's clear he does not sound like that.
Frank has more wonderful content and phrasing from his playing from listening to Michael Brecker, Steely Dan and Chick Corea
FRANK IS THE G.O.A.T.
Music is so subjective. But, being said, Garsed is more musical to my ears. 😅
Really? Making music a competition? Really? REALLY? Videos like these are of the many reasons people don't take good musicianship seriously.
Its for fun dude. Plus maybe some people know one and not the other and are learning things. Not everything is nefarious lol
What is wrong with a showcase of talent and technique? Real musicians and music lovers are inspired by this stuff, not angered.
ガーストの横にもっとやばいヤツおるやん!
I was going to give it to Garsed for more diversity and more "artistic" leanings in styles. Some of the earlier Frank Gambale stuff was a little scratchy and was heavily reliant on the sweeping to the exlusion of other things. ( i suggest listening to both players with eyes closed ) However, that last piece that Frank played in front of Chick , the straight ahead jazz thing, Gave Frank the edge, The subtle pausing, leaving space in between notes like a sax player, at least in the beginning, was very impressive. Both phenomenal players.
Garside
En verdad? Obviamente Frank gambale… 😮💨😌
Brett is a gentleman. Can't say the same thing about Frank.
Explain?
Frank has a big heart as a person.
What are you talking about? Frank Gambale is great.
