Tell your mother she has a really musical brain! I too think his music will last... it's not just effect or fashion. People and bands will cover this song.. looks easy but is pretty intricate and harmonically rich and original. He also has courage to appear a little weird and sing very high..

It's one of those rare perfect songs. It wins across all dimensions: melody, chord progressions, instrumentation, arrangement, structure, lyrics, production. Perfect. This is my favorite track from an album that is fantastic through and through.
Whenever I hear something from Louis, I instantly remember the quote from Giorgio Moroder: "Once you free your mind about a concept of harmony and of music being correct you can do whatever you want". Louis does whatever he wants, and it's glorious.
Louis Cole sounds like he could have come out in 7200 BC or 10000 AD, he is everywhere and no where, Louis is waiting at the end of time for everyone to catch up
Harmonically sublime, tongue in check yet profoundly moving. Louis Cole is up there with Stevie Wonder, Donald Fagan, Mozart and Sofia Gubaidulina in my book.
One of my favorite tracks on the record, 21st century West Coast, California sunshine Pop w/ great changes, lyrics and absolutely gorgeous arrangement, that instrumental outro of shimmering guitars says it all...Really Free. And Genevieve Artadi's angelic vocal touch a perfect fit.
How would you describe this tune? Love to hear some of your insights. What does this tune evoke in your ears and mind? I'm eager to hear your thoughts @@0047-r5d
Agree, but I have one suggestion, if better was even possible. For that outro groove, instead of a guitar...a banjo. In the song by Air, "Alpha Beta Gaga", Nicholas comes into a similar outro rocking a banjo-it works!
The harmonies, the drum tones, the synths that have an authentic nostalgia to their tone but a distinctly original note choice. I could go on forever…theres just nobody that sounds like Louis.
I feel like over the past years I have kinda lost the feeling of anticipation for new releases, either before or after it drops. It's sad to feel this way because music was a pillar of my life for a long time, and it's like I've lost the connection with a part of myself. But this album has made me reconnect with that excitement again. I was looking forward to the release, and have loved diving into it and coming back to these tracks. Louis, I owe you one for that.
The music industry lost its way because it became purely about following formulas, emulating styles and meeting sales quotas. Louis is such a breath of fresh air as he just does his own thing and is purely focused on honing his craft and as such, his songwriting has naturally progressed. It really shows on this new album. The influences from the past are there but he's taking it to new places. Too many artists and producers nowadays are only focused on modern production techniques and have forgotten the art of experimentation.
So much good music released this year. Check out Not Tight by jd beck and domi for at least one that I'm relatively sure you'll like if you enjoy louis cole.

Damn, Louis..... Shit like this is breaking my 5 year music writing dry spell. It's just like a Berry tart, nachos, and a great cup of tea all at once. Happy happy happy
I believe Louis Cole is a phenomena the likes of which are exceedingly rare... amidst all the stupid, unmusical bilge being pumped out into our World, he combines his astonishing compositional and arranging skill into something akin to Zappa, Steely Dan, and Henry Mancini all fuzed into one amazing thing- and his instrumental ability.. maybe the best drummer breathing right now..and no one plays synth bass quite like he can. Genius. Yeah, I'm a fan. And I'm a 70 year old bassist.
@peter g Just my opinion. Not too many of the younger players impress me as making more than just ego driven noise. I'm a total jazz post bop guy- Billy Higgins is my all time favorite drummer. I love Tony Williams, Idris Muhammad, Louis Hayes, and many, many other drummers. As far as the current crop of technical guys, Donati certainly is amazing.. but in my opinion, no one is playing quite like Louis Cole is playing. He is unique. He plays some of the most incredible syncopations I have ever heard. He reminds me of Mike Clark a bit. But far more aggressive. Add his skills on synth bass, keys, and his astonishing compositional/ arranging skills, and I just cannot think of anyone that is as musical as he is- all in the same person. I'm still learning and practicing bass, after 55 years playing the instrument.
Hell yes dude. I'm digging the tone of this new album, it's exactly perfect for where I am in life. ❤️❤️❤️ I love that the backing track is vaguely Boards of Canada!
Just finished the whole album. End to end, it's just outstanding. And Louis, you're a one-man musical renaissance, the evolution of revolution. Keep 'em coming!
This to me is what mastering self expression sounds like, he is genuinely himself and it shows. You know it's him no matter what style he plays. This is a true to life artist.
@@theScienceLabLive I always hope it does, but they are currently losing focus with each one of them doing solo carriers. Here We Go Jack is post thrilled introspective like The Nightfly to me.
I hear lots of Steely Dan in Bill Wurtz's sound arranging/playing. Not so much in his Casio sounds, though! Lol. Actually, it's funny szrnkabela mentioned The Nightfly - That record sounds a bit Casio.
@@raimondoraimondi8301 I was blown away, he didn't play as much new stuff as I expected, he didn't play this either 😅 but Genevieve was there and killing it, they hit the Failing In a Cool Way with some MADDDDENING solos from every player that were just spectacular, then closed on F it Up, no phones were out, everyone from 20 to 70 breaking it down on the floor. Ran into Louis on Fig in Highland Park and he said this song was offered to Clown Core first but Gendel said no because he thought it was too much of a stylistic departure. I have to agree.
