I get the notification, another release. My headphones go on with deep anticipation. I press play and fall into the LC trance. Life is groovy. Life is good.
Ooh, a wonderful mix of Green Gartside (Scritti Politti) and Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), with of course, Dat Louis Stank. Well done sir. Just a few more days until this monster is dropped on the world. Wish you all the best, and... thank you Louis.
Definitely Fagen influence - I think Cole did the Scritti thing back with Knower (with Artadi subbing for Gartside). I heard a few David Gamson touches in Park Your Car, though. Both songs are my favourites on this album - have listened to them compulsively for a month.
Good call on the Steely Dan. I’d go farther and say parts of this remind me of Donald Fagen’s last album (Sunken Condos) and the track I’m Not the Same Without You.
It's rare that an artist I'm actively listening to is clearly at the top of their game and only getting better with each new release. Don't slow down Mr. Cole.
I knew I Needed and was gonna get this Album even before "I'm Tight" was ever released. Whatever was coming next "I Wanted In" since stumbling upon Louis in 2020. Like "Loop Daddy" Marc Rebillet said... "Don't You For One Second Think You Can Fuck With This Man!!!". A Deep Breath Of Fresh Air is what this is.
Read the lyrics. I wouldn't call it self contempt so much as an artist's struggle to sift through all the ideas buzzing through his head and feeling he may have failed on some level sometimes. What's more interesting to me about his lyrics is the way he expresses disappointment in and fear of losing love. His is a new kind of heartbreak (but also not, just expressed better - Not Needed Anymore is a prime example).

If you haven't heard him in KNOWER yet, I urge you to watch the Live Band Sesh version of Overtime. I can't even begin to describe how juicy and groovy that performance is.
Great about Louis is his constant sound! He drives this tight, muffled compressed with his vocals and creative arrangements from the beginning, you can hear he found his style!
