Also, thank you for reading the manual 😂 Watching you struggle with some of the basic mechanics is funny, but it's a better experience watching you play when you know the basics of what's going on. Watching you play previous ones was entertaining, but sometimes painful waiting for you to figuring out basic mechanics that are explained in the manual. Keep it up :-)

Instead we just get tons and tons of tutorials in front of every game we play, half of them unskippable, so repeat plays are just a slog at the start.
It's a real struggle, especially if you don't know how to maximize your item usage. Invisible Potions are the best thing ever, giving you like 30 seconds of invincibility per potion, allowing you to tank most bosses with ease while unloading missiles. Once you're out of invisibles, go to regular potions. Buy health refills at Hot Dog stands for $5. Walk into the trees at the surrounded house to get your 4th and final life piece. Thing about this game is that it actually starts getting good when you have weapon upgrades and potions. They could have made it into an actually good game with some more work on its flaws.
Got a recommendation for the series, Viewpoint. A short but hard sci-fi isometric shoot'em-up from the early 90s with hand-drawn 3d graphics. What's questionable about it being a worthy addition is the edition, there's two main versions of the original with a couple significant differences. The NeoGeo Arcade is what it was built on initially, and as such has plentiful enemies, surprisingly fluid animations, and crazy boss fights; the first port being the Sega Genesis Megadrive, which almost could handle it, some enemies and animation frames were removed across the game making it easier, though it still has slow-down when too much is going on. The other major difference would be the music and sound, while it's up to personal preference which is 'better', there's a distinct change in sound between the two, Sega's having that funky crunch factor lol. And like everything in those old school arcade days, the difficulty curve may as well be a half-pipe, lulling you into a false sense of security before clamping your quarters.
I remember this game coming out and hearing how you had to go all the way back to the beginning if you died. That always sounded super crazy. I never got to see it in action, so thanks for putting it on display. It actually seems pretty cool even with the brutal “start all the way over” gimmick.
It's so interesting seeing Ryu go thru all the same mysterious frustrations I had when I was 8. We got this game bc SMB3 was sold out during those chip shortage days! It's a really weird game, but each boss has a unique strategy and is truly challenging to figure out and defeat. There really is no other game like it. Ryu quitting at the 3rd boss is where we were stuck for months. I'd love to see Ryu take it on. It's unforgiving, but fair. I'd forgive anyone for using save states to avoid the walk back to where they died.
When I played this orginally my dad had a turbo controler which made life so much easier, I never beat this game but love this one. Thanks for the trip down my childhood memories
