0:43 Looks like season 2 is off to a great start. Btw, anyone else want to see a full playthrough of this?
I would!
I would too ... but man, the guy's gonna need some correct info on directions, or he will most likely fail, lose interest entirely, or both.
Luminous yes this was so rad
@@RubberyCat you're clearly new here :) Ryu never loses interest in a game he plays, and just because other people know how to play this game, doesn't mean Ryu automatically knows what you know..... which makes watching him play these games, even more fun.
@@chrismeulen8108 Right like, I don't think he's caught on to the fact his shield can block things, and of course he missed the Life spell, that's a big miss.
Quits playing just before Death Mountain........."I'm not sure how hard this game gets"
some guy this is something I’ve never quite understood, Death Mountain in this game was straight forward to me, you just go right every time theres a few of those axe guys that are kind of hard but it’s not nearly as difficult as some of the later dungeons in the game, yet people still talk about how hard death mountain is in this game
@@erkreimer2494 The problem isn't Death Mountain by itself, but the journey there. Every time you game over you have to go through the whole overworld map. And on the way there are a few hard encounters which can easily cost you a life if you aren't careful.
Death Mountain is especially hard if you know what your doing in the beginning of the game and get there without having gained a bunch of levels. It's brutal to get though and have the resources you need to get everything done, so you have to do it a second time. I def want to see Ryukar enjoy the suffering. I don't know if Zelda 1 swordless is hard enough for this, but I would like to see that too.
@@erkreimer2494 The last dungeon is harder but imo Death Mountain is the hardest thing in the game before that point, mostly because you don't have down slash yet, which makes all those enemies SO much more manageable. And there's no reason anyone should know right away that you "just go right every time". "oh this is easy just know exactly where to go and what to do why does anyone have a problem", heh.
Then, to be honest, looking at the games he played in Season 1, I am not sure Zelda 2 really deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as pretty much any of those games, in terms of difficulty. It is the hardest Zelda game, sure, but Zelda games aren't really known for being difficult. Because progress is always saved, even between play sessions, pretty much anyone can really just put the time in and grind it out. I was basically able to when I was probably less than 10 yet I was never able to get past Turbo Tunnel.
We would love to see more videos of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link! It was fun watching your first part of the adventure.
Yass pls!
On UA-cam, please.
Yes, we dont mind if you dont make a ton of progress. We enjoy watching as much as we can on YT
Yes plz
Would love to see the full playthrough if that's possible
A lot of people don't like this game but It's honestly one of my favorites
This game is one of my favorites, too! I actually like it better than Zelda 1!
The only really good zelda game along with a link to the past and minish cap. Side scrolling zelda is so underrated
Top 20-25 NES game in my opinion
Would love to see this completed on UA-cam :)
It's on UA-cam, people actually speedrun this game. Nuts.
Or did you mean by Ryu. This is not a game you beat in one sitting. I've been playing this for 30 years and still can't beat it, I've made it all the way to dark link and die instantly.
@@punker-gamer-trucker-guy 24:00
Don't get me wrong, this game is hard, but it is beatable in one sitting. Definitely not by someone on their first try, but people speedrun this in about 2 hours. Best I've ever done is a little over 4, but it's doable for sure. I have faith Ryu could figure it out.
@@punker-gamer-trucker-guy That's awesome. Lots of folks would have given up or never even attempted it due to the game's reputation. I'm assuming you haven't been using the most common strategy for beating Dark Link?
Been playing this game since 89 and my personal best in one sitting is 3 hours and some minutes. Didn't beat it till I was in 7th grade in 94
The original game comes with an instruction book. I happen to have one. It has a map labeled with things like "Parapa Desert." It even has a specific map called "Map to the first palace." So not knowing what to do AT ALL isn't intended by the game.
It has a lot of information, some useless like enemy names, but some useful like: what each spell does, what all the items found in castles and caves are, and specific things like the hammer can break road boulders, BUT ALSO cut trees.
ALSO, anyone playing, I suggest using the shield to block, not necessarily just jumping around and swinging like he does. The knights especially ("ironknuckles" according to the book) are way more fun to fight using sword AND shield.
Dude, you don't know how much watching this video and reading this information helped me!
I got the Nintendo Classic Mini console (30 something preinstalled games) as a Christmas present, and once I started with Zelda 2 I seriously had no damn clue what to do. The enemies, especially the knights and boomerang terriers are hard as hell, I have no manual or anything to help me navigate the world. I'm not a "hardcore gamer" so learning the controls with even as simple controller as the classic Nintendo one was a struggle. Had to get my brother to beat the horse boss for me, glad he's always up to help his sister. XD
So far I haven't managed to get through a mountain labyrinth. Everything is just so damn hard and since I have no such ability as "gaming logic" I just keep panicking and swinging my sword while jumping all over the place. I thought the shield just made you a bit more stronger, enemies draining a bit less hp from you, which is why I'm constantly out of magic. I just happened to find some secrets in random woods by accident, which has caused me to basically walk through every block of land you can walk on just in case I don't miss anything.
At the end of the day, I don't understand how the kids from 70's-80's managed to keep themselves sane with these games. XD
@@iRinnda Games back in the day really had to rely on the instruction manual to explain and tell a lot of things, the game just couldn't hold enough information to explain everything directly so it made sense to just put it in paper.
Using the shield to block meant the physical shield that Link holds to block the knights and stalfos in the palaces. Using the shield spell will reduce damage taken (changes to the red tunic similar to old Zelda 1), but it also strengthens the actual shield that Link holds to block fire attacks.
Zelda II Adventure of Link (NES) and Sim City (SNES) have the most beautiful instruction booklets I've ever seen. Spent hours and hours reading those two.
This entire video I was shouting at the screen "Ryu! You. Have. A. Shield!" XD
Seriously, what IS it with “Professional Gamers” and not reading instruction booklets?!? It’s not like you’re using a strategy guide; you’re MEANT to read it! James Rolfe and Mike Matei from Cinemassacre(AVGN) do it too; they blindly play a game and call it crap without reading the instructions. It’s frustrating!
Man I remember playing this at 7 years old and just giving up on it. To this day its the only Zelda game I have never completed.
Haha it took me 9 years beating that Game without Internet xp
It was insane, the palaces near the end was HUGE, and even though areas in games like general metroidvainias today probably is larger, the combination of all rooms and corridors looking the same, there being no directions at all, and even several non-bosses being terribly hard in attack pattern .... i never completed it either.
Same the difficulty and confusion of this game is ridiculous curious if Ryu actually cracks how to beat it because he seems to have the components of the triforce in his personality alone to crack any video game no matter how cruel that game may be.
I havent beaten it yet I've been been play since I was 5
@@breetheumo6832 I mean I think it has one equal perhaps the highest brackets of league potentially but this game was made back when game companies did not care about difficult of video games.
This is has made it one of the most difficult video games in existence today.
Huzzah, this series is back. And, yes, would like to see the conclusion of the games on youtube somehow.
He only completed them on Twitch as a way to get more subs on there but I was never interested in Twitch
EXTRAORDINARILY HARD GAMES
IS BACK BABY!!!!
thank you Ryu, love this series ♥️
"Get candle in Parapa Palace. Go west." I say it's best to interpret this as step-by-step instructions. Get the candle in Parapa Palace, then go west. There isn't much else to do in the early game, so he's kinda right.
I'd like to suggest "Quest of Ki" for the NES, it starts off really easy and then at the half way point it gets ridiculously hard.
I'm finding all kinds of game to play myself in these comments lol
yes to be honest any game from gamecenter cx would do :p
Delighted to see this series back. And would love to see more, much more, of this play through on UA-cam. Got lots of time to watch it at the moment...
How come 🧐?
The entire time I was yelling at the screen "JUST BLOCK!" Especially after the first couple times he blocked octorock and statue shots.
Just imagine what blue armors will do to someone playing like this, lol.
Palaces 3, 6, and 7 are going to wreck him. 😁
Actually he figured out the jump and aim for the head strategy against the Iron Knuckles rather quickly. Took me years before I found a way to confidently take them on.
The jump and slash technique will work on the blue iron knuckles but plan on taking lots of damage
I think this might need an epileptic seizure warning for when Link dies (kind of a joke, kind of not)
The old NES boxes or cartridges had those warnings.
But not the videos!
Idk when the warnings started, but definitely should have been during the Atari days.
Thanks for the heads up
In the eighties, we didn’t care lol
More Zelda II videos please! This was such an epic shot of nostalgia. Like watching your good friend play a game you loved for the first time! It’s one of the most memorable games of my life and it brings me joy to see you playing it.
So glad you brought back Extraordinarily Hard games. It's like a dream come true. Thx Ryu you made my day!
It was a lot of fun to watch you play this game from my childhood. Zelda is my all-time favorite series of games, and I've been playing it since LoZ was the only one; I've never beaten this one, even though I like it a lot more than many people, but it does get harder. Glad to see the series is back!
I'm so happy that this series is back! I'd definitely want to see the conclusion on youtube. Love you, Ryu!
Ryu: I don't know how hard this gets
Death Mountains: *Echoed Laughter*
"I think this game is awesome." Well he just earned the HELL out of my upvote! I LOVED Zelda 2 growing up.
I did too, but it should really have a save function. When i revisited the game 20 years later, i had to leave the console on overnight just to beat the last boss. What were the developers thinking, seriously. Way too hard of a game.
The darknuts in this game are some of my favourite video game enemies. The AI is so unpredictable and at the same time satisfying and terrifying to face. Especially the blue ones, that dish out a barrage of sword laser attacks after you land a hit on them. My strategy is to be patient, focusing on blocking their attacks and trying to land hits in between.
Not an extraordinarily hard game, but I can't recommend it enough: Terranigma. Trust me.
It is a testament to Ryu's skills so quickly figuring out strats to kill tough enemies. I saw Ryu lose 10 exp when he got hit by that fiery moa at 19:29. Even though I beat this game a long time ago I never realized that the Fiery Moa's took health and EXPERIENCE each time they hit you.
I'm going to pretend that me and my friend didn't click elimination mode on our multiple hour save file and have to start all over. We thought it was an extra mode....
Ryu's face when he heard the Temple theme made my day.
Ryu, tip for fighting Iron Knuckles, those powerful knight enemies; jump and attack just before you hit the ground, and the sword doesn't get its hitbox properly which lets you bypass a lot of defenses on enemies. You can fight those guys directly, just keep alternating ducking and standing slashes, and eventually they will let you hit them, which can help when on smaller platforms.
Seeing you play this, use the townsfolk info, and actually be good at the combat was such a refreshing breath here on UA-cam. This game is absolutely one of my favorites, and I'm SO, so happy to see you legitimately PLAY the fucking game. Thank you Ryu.
14:15
Had a flashback to the South Park world of warcraft episode where they kill boars in the forest for 2exp. haha
Mate, great vid. Pretty stoked to see this series return. I'd suggest keeping the same format, an "introductory" dive that is more edited, just like this one, and a "Game beaten here" link towards a live that you aired on youtube or twitch. Its a nice way to offer a more raw experience to us who want to see the full dive, and its less work editing!
Thank you Ryu. I need this Zelda goodness to get me through quarantine fun.
RYU! Zelda ll is my favorite classic Zelda. Small thing that is helpful later on, if you stab the decorative statues in the dungeons, they sometimes drop red magic refills which are super helpful in a pinch!
Never have I clicked on a video faster in my life. Thanks Ryu!
@8:00 that guy in the armor truly is a kenobi
No matter what people say this was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. I wish they would remake it in the same style they did link's awakening, but I doubt that will happen.
Thank you for bringing the series back, I think we'd all love to see your completed runs of these hard games.. Game on and be safe out there
Suggestion for impossible NES game to beat without looking guide up!.... "Deadly Towers".
Would love to see the entire game on UA-cam. This series is a great way for me to introduce the games of my childhood to my two boys (10 and 6). Love the positive attitude and the lesson that effort/persistence is 90% of the battle. Thanks for everything you do. More UA-cam content--especially while we're all stuck at home!!!
As someone who recently went through this game and managed to beat it for the first time it was fun to watch you play this :)
Thank you so much for bringing this series back it's so fun to watch you are by far my favorite youtuber 😎
finally the series is back...
Hey Ryu! I really want to watch you finish the games you start, so please do continue with this one!
It's a really good thing when respected gamers play Zelda 2. It's an underrated game and so misunderstood. Glad you are playing it Ryu. It was fun watching Grand Poo Bear play the game as well
maybe it would have been more popular if it wasn't a zelda game, since they are usually quite different.
I’ve never played any Zelda games. This has convinced me I have made a terrible mistake and need to start immediately. Thanks Ryu!
It should be noted, no other Zelda game is like this one. But they are amazing.
All Zelda games are awesome
This is regarded as one of the worst Zelda game. The first game is definitely better.
Indeed, this is unqiue in terms of Zelda games. And, in my opinion, much better than any of the rest.
@@Gatorade69 Unfairly in my opinion. While the first game was a masterpiece, Zelda II is a fantastic game that got a lot of hate mostly just for not being Zelda I.
One of the most cryptic games. Huge tip: grind! I never go into a palace before everything on level 5.
I'd love to see how you handle Death Mountain and the final dungeon.
It was so much fun watching you piece together good strategies for each monster, and just general gameplay. For example, your first time through Palace 2 you weren't using Shield, but jump cut to the next time and you're using it just right. I also adored looking for cheese against those infinite enemies. Classic Ryukahr. Good luck with the rest of the game, and I hope to see it on UA-cam!
Really enjoyed this series before. Loving this episode and that Pokémon shirt is 🔥
One of the games I sucked at so much when I was a kid. I remember feeling like I accomplished something when I was 8 years old getting the hammer. I could only beat the first three temples. I also didn’t have a clue on how to manage my magic in those days. These days I can make a run in around 1 hour 45 minutes for a first run and extra runs around 1 hour 26. I love the game now.
fun fact: His name really is "Error".
This is one of the few Zelda games I haven't beat. I'm sure most of us would love to see 1-2 minute clips of important moments in the game or some parts you liked. Then edit them together like you do with Mario Maker vids. That's my idea, you do your thing and I'm sure we'll love it. Thanks, Ryu bro!
And back in the day when this came out, this was the only zelda game I ever beat. It was punishing. But I still have never finished the original.
Right?! I never beat Zelda 1 either, because holy shit is it hard and cryptic. If you read the hints and remember them in this game though, you have a much easier time. Not to mention the life spell and strategizing magic use... Zelda II is a classic that doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
@@samlay9588 That's the truth. Even fighting Shadow Link isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. It's a hard game but it's not punishing if you're willing to sit with it.
Zelda 1 was easy back in the day because Nintendo Power provided all the maps. Now, Zelda 1, 2nd quest, good luck with that. That is crazy hard.
As long as Ryu is completely honest with how much out of game knowledge he has or gains when he seemingly can't go any further I think this will be a fun series. Good luck!
Ryu rented Zelda 2 when he was younger...? Exactly how old is this dude 😅 I'm 35 and I always figured Ryu was maybe in his mid 20s, but that can't be right, you couldn't rent Zelda 2 anywhere **I** had access to in 1995 lol. 🤷♂️
I think he is more like our age (I'm 31...) or older...
Yep, just looked it up, 33, in between us.
Huh! good to know. He looks a lot younger than I do but I guess that's not terribly surprising 😪
Finally I’ve been waiting for this series to make an comeback
Ima start this early 90% of comments from Jayden animation 10% from whatever the video is about😂
SHUT
I find something calming about back seat gaming with this guy. Some of his Mario shorts are insane toi
I just feel Link in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link is too tall, as if he had taken a mushroom... 😂 Imagine if they added that in Super Mario Maker 2.
Link is a tall specimen. But he probably took the Long mushroom cause he *skinny af.*
Lanky Link? They should probably do that actually.
@@Gideon_Judges6 😮😂👍
So much fun watching this. I played this for the first time when I was 6 years old. I remember playing it with my dad and we had the same struggles. Now I know this game inside and out. I’ve played it start to finish so many times with those memories of my dad and I just brainstorming on what to do next or what we were missing. So much fun. Love your channel.
How does it feel to be jaiden’s favorite twitch streamer
Who is that?
“I don’t know how much harder it gets.”
I’m over here having ‘Nam flashbacks from trying to get to the Great Palace.
As long as Ryu's playing through to the end, I'm happy. That was a crazy reveal when Ryu found the game had no money all along. lol
This game... this damn game. I was about 9 years old when my uncle got me a gameboy with Zelda 2, my first game ever. I didn’t know English back then and the game kicked me ass constantly but I loved it so much. I played it so much and somehow figured out pretty much all the stuff on my own but it took me until I was 18 years old to finally beat the last dungeon and the boss. I wouldn’t say this is a great game but it certainly is one of the most important ones for me, so thanks for playing and giving me those nostalgic feels :)
Mortal kombat 1 for the snes on very hard and that’s a perfect game to play for this Series
That tower in mortal kombat is insane
Had to beat mileena, goro, kintaro, and shaokahn while your health drains, you cant block, deal reduced damage, while they all have increased damage, health regen and cant be staggered
Or something like that
But that wasnt the main game, just a challenge mode
But extremely hard
Had a great time watching you play through this more or less blind, really took me back to my childhood trying to figure out the puzzle that was this game. Really hope you continue to post more
More UA-cam videos would be awesome!
Great to see this series revitalized! Can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the awesome work!

There are a few things I remember from when I beat Zelda II like 5 years ago:
The end of each (inserting the crystal) grants a full level, no matter how much exp it costs. You'll want to use this to your advantage, since higher levels take just WAY too much exp. So 1) you only want to add the crystal when you have close to no exp and 2) do so as late in the game as possible.
Next bit of advice: find the secret swort abilities and spells. In particular, look for the downslash and heal spells.
Finally, there are only a couple one-ups in the whole game, and once you get them they don't respawn. So leave them for the endgame, because there's like 3 consecutive bosses and they're insane... good luck
Try the game “pid” it’s ridiculously hard.
9:46 cheese located, proceed to eliminate target
Zelda II is considered hard? Huh, never got that impression from it when I played it as a kid.
Agreed, it's not ghosts and goblins or anything.
I never got past Death mountain
Right, the only part that is a bit tricky is the Grand Palace at the end because it's so huge, and those bird soldiers are tough, but once you know a route it's doable. Didn't even write it down, just remember the "landmarks".
@@HumanWast3 a lot of people try to do that early befoe you even do the 2nd palace, and you *can*, if you're really good and/or level up enough, but there's absolutely no reason you have to go there early. Also again, once you know the route it's a piece of cake.
Amazing. I am so happy this series is back Ryu. I would love to see you beat this game, and all the other games you decide to play.
really excited you continued this series. if you're taking suggestions, I'll throw bionic commando out there. super unique game for it's time. you don't utilize jumping for the platforming, rather you use a grapple hook to swing everywhere.
When i beat this game for the first time earlier this year. I hated it with every fiber in my body. I just beat it again today and I kind of have a new found love for this game
Glad to see this series back. Would love to see part two for this game soon!
Dude, that jump strike attack on the orange knights is crazy OP. I can't believe you just discovered that accidentally. I wonder if that is a common strategy used by others; I've never seen that before!
Yep…that's the Strat.
Please keep playing this on UA-cam. It was really enjoyable watching you figure it out.
So glad the series is back, please keep it going. There are so many memorable hard games to go through. Hope you try some shmups.
i wanna see more Zelda 2! I love this game..
Also I'm proud of you Ryu. You found out about jump slashing so quickly! Makes those Darknut's so much easier to deal with.
In my chanel load some games
We would love to see you continue this series! We want to see part 2. You are just amazing, Ryu. You provide so much of comfort especially during this global lock down. Love from India!
i'm so happy we got the series back
You gotta beat this blind!!! One of my favorite videos of yours!
Would love more yt vids like this would absolutely watch a series seeing all of ur progress through this game. Also so happy to see extraordinarily hard games are back!!!
I really like the new editing style. The cut always to side view Ryu like he did in his last League vid are a nice touch 👌
The Knights hold their shield top and bottom at random, you have to mimic his behavior only hitting him where there's no shield. (That's why the jump hit got through once)
I like it to see this series coming back =)
Ryu all the NPCs in this game have the same sprite and they look the same in every town. Also, to go into a house press the sword button, its the same as talking to someone.
You were suppose to learn a spell in one of those towns.
Would love to see you play the whole game! Did u ever post any more videos of this game? Im looking but haven't found them.
Legit my favorite series you did. It’s so nostalgic. Love it please continue with it!!!:)
I am in the very select few in the world but I actually love this game. Is it ridiculously difficult? Yes, but there are so many unique and cool things about this game that I will just never be able to forget. Thank you Ryu for making a video on this great game.
I'm laughing at how hard it is for you, but I was probably just as bad or worse the first time I played. But since that was 30 years ago, it's a bit hard to remember. This is so much fun to watch. I love your persistence.
It’s always fun watching others play games you’ve beaten so many times for the first time (especially with no help). Keep this going!
Honestly this game is frustrating sometimes but it was an absolute joy to beat. I really liked the xp and abilities. Can't wait to see more of this!
Good choice bringing this series back - want to see you beat it.
I wish I could just delete my knowledge of this game and play it again for the first time. It was fun watching Poo do it and now I’m glad to see Ryu taking it up :)
1:54 *"I remember renting it when I was super young"*
Same here Ryu ! Memories of my childhood are back when I'm looking you playing that old game. I really enjoyed it !
Thank you for the happiness that you bring ! ;)
Some of the items you find in the cave you have to return to villagers you talk to. That's how you learn magic, which you can cast by pressing Select.
I just played through this today, but loved watching Ryu playing through this.
I want to see the conclusion of all the games from the first series. Also thanks for continuing this series. Hope you have fun doing it.
I'm excited to see this entire series. My favorite thing on youtube right now, no contest.
Few tidbits for this game: Almost every town has a magic spell to learn, when you level up you can choose "cancel" if you want to keep your exp points and try for the next level (you need more swords to make killing stuff easier), try slashing at statues and statue heads to find magic jars (but be careful, sometimes the full statues will create a knight that you have to kill), there's hidden stuff everywhere so just explore, and finally magic is really important in this game (like using shield to cut damage taken). Keep in mind that the magic only applied to the current screen you're in, so if you go down an elevator or to another room it's no longer in effect. Need a key to get through a locked area? You can use "fairy" magic to pass through key gates and grab the temple's special items, but be careful if you end up in a dead end and don't have enough magic to use it again. Also, fairy is handy if you are falling to your death; just use that spell and you'll stop mid-air. Hope this helps! I'm looking forward to seeing you play through more of this game.
I would love to watch how you beat this game like a series. I was so invested in the entire video that I stopped doing the thing I was doing in that moment.
please keep playing this game, i’ve never played or seen past the first dungeon
