Am I the only one who actually wanted the old Fiesta to win this race? 🤔
sergio gaona no, you’re not
Yes, you are.
Nope and this is nothing but a load of crap, I have a 16 fiesta and I run 11.9 for the quarter in it, no mods or anything and my friend has the new one and I smoke him all the time.
Nope
@@Seldion nope
do a drag race with
fiesta ST150, ST180, ST200 and mk8 ST 😁
I did a run just yet with my ST150. It's a Mountune mp165, so not stock, but still less power (keep in mind that the st182 has overboost and also 200bhp in this.)
So still 35bhp less, and non turbo so way less torque. I used dragy GPS so it's quite accurate.
"And it crosses the line at 15.3 seconds!" 😲 I was happily surprised! Guess the mk7 and 8 will be quicker to 200kmh, but I don't get why people call the ST150 slow. Standard maybe, but an exhaust and air intake and it keeps up quite well with less power!
@@TheoSanders593 In good conditions, with a good start the mk7 st can do 15 seconds flat. Maybe even 14.9
@@JGreen444 yeah they shouod have done 3 runs to level things out. Still they are all pretty close on the quarter mile. 😁👍
Krispen Wah cars.co.za did 15;56secs with the standard ST180
@@TheoSanders593 St150 is probably a bit lighter. Lighten it further. Battery, aircon delete, back seats. Great wee cars and far less to go wrong!
I proudly announce that this is the shortest carwow drag race
Usefully quicker, but the old car definitely looks sharper especially from the back. Like the wheels on the new one though.
I wonder what the aftermarket tuning crowd will make of the new 3-cyl? The old 1.6 can be taken upto 300+bhp reliably.
320hp as far as i know. Dont know if there are even higher figure builds.
Prefer the exterior of the old ST and the interior of the new ST
Edit: Thanks For The Likes
Sam Broadbent same
Yeah that would be the ideal combination.
Uh, the old exterior is ugly, at least the back is awful.
I disagree. I own the old one and think the new one looks better. I am hoping those wheels on the new one have the same bolt pattern and offset as the old car's so I can get a set. Even the wheels on the new one are better looking.
The new one Looks like an Hyundai ix20
I still have my 2017 one and still love it to this day
Am I the only one who thinks the old Fiesta ST looks more sporty and sleek over the new Fiesta ST, regardless of its performance over the new Fiesta ST??
J Boi I love the old one (had 1 in 2014) But i think the new one is better in every way. Obviously just my opinion 😁
I agree with you, the new one's back looks like a Ford van... ugly!!
I agree with you. Just put the 215 upgrade on the old St and the car is sublime.
I much prefer the old one too in every way. The new one is too big and a bit ugly and has a horrible interior and only 3 cylinders!! Just think how good the new one could be with a proper 4 cylinder engine.
I like the front of the new one more but I like the rear of the old one more. Interior the new one wins (I dislike both interiors tbh)
The old style/ body shape is so much nicer.
Why change it??!
Because it looks bad

I'd prefer this Fiesta ST to no Fiesta ST 😞
Would have seen vs fiesta st 200!
GTI Taccans More people should upvote your comment, cause it’s damn true
With an LSD and launch control as well. The new ST would suck against it.
and yet the old one doesn't have them. Silly argument really.
The standard mk7 is faster than this anyway. 16 sec 1/4 mile is over a second slower than people have actually done it in.
why the st 200? its not the standard st
This test purpose is old standard st vs new standard st.
So your comment makes zero sense.
Haters gonna hate and they gonna lose always.
Amazing progress out of a 3 cylinder engine. Big up for Ford!
When you hit 1 mil subs can you go 60fps? Would be a great upgrade. Love your work! 👍😉
but... 24fps is cinematic experience... /s
Bizilux Games I hope you're being sarcastic. 🤔
Bizilux Games HAHA! Bippety Bop he's making a reference to Ubisoft and their reasoning for not going for 60fps with their games. They said that 30fps or so gives you a 'cinematic' experience...
Ishmael Simpson Oh right haha. Haven't heard that one before. 😂😂
My 4096x2160 monitor only does 24fps and it is cinematic. There is no replacement for displacement!
I'm going to be honest here, I thought the new one looked not so great. Until I saw one in the flesh. It looks amazing with the right wheels like the one in the video. I now love both shapes.
Those wheels are standard on every ST so you won’t see one without them. Only diff is 17’s on the entry level and 18’s on the ST3
You should compare the new one to the ST200.
And new without launch control
yup, no launch control and that also means no Quaife LSD.
I do not know who drove the Black ST, but damn that was bad shifting.
Anyone else saw how the front was shaking, not smooth at all.
Neo VeNoM I was driving the black ST and... words hurt, y'know?
Neo VeNoM o
Why? ST200 was a special model, not the standart one.
The older Fiesta definitely looks better especially the back end...lights etc
Defo not, new one is far nicer.
I like both however the last generation was a much fresher looking car when it came out in 2008.
They could have modernized the graphical details in the rear lights on the new one. They look very dated on the lower trim levels.
Even the wheel designs have been downgraded on the regular models.
The new model looks about 15 years old in the basic trim level.
More torque, more bhp, who would have thought the new one would win🙄
Right!? Should've been the ST200.
Yup. I was thinking the same thing.
182 hp vs. 200hp hmmm...
Three cylinder engines are typically slower to respond, i.e. rev, than engines with more cylinders, so that could've made a difference. Not this time though..
Weight
Highly stressed engine, will not last as long as the 4 cylinder.
Seem to be lasting alright in comparison to the 1.6, got MK7 STs losing compression and knocking at almost the same age as the early MK8s now
Faster, more economical, sounds epic - I'm convinced! 👍
Yes very true, but you can tune a 4 cylinder engine and it won't go bang, as for the new 3 cylinder engine it is probably at its max potential so if you tune it it will be a recipe for disaster.
Miller Corner But it has Three Cylinders 😂
and cheaper to ensure....
sounds like a tractor too.
I'm not convinced, the wife has a 1.0 3 cyl 125bhp, was a brilliant little engine when new, at 40000 miles it sounds like its done 100000 and she doesn't rag the engine. Not a problem on a 3 year lease, different story if your buying it.
Would be interesting to see the new ST against an MP215 or ST200
ua-cam.com/video/wcgvOT-Re4Q/v-deo.html
The older ST looks sharper in the looks department for sure
In that time they all came out with mustang lines, headlights and front bumper from fiestas and focus were in line with the mustang. Definitely prefer the old looks than the newer ones
By a mile I'd say. Ford really dropped the ball with the redesign of this one. Mk7.5 is arguably the best looking hatchback for an age and all they had to do was tweek it but instead someone thought it would be a good idea to squash the back end in and ruined it.
@@SlapbackGOD designed by an Aston Martin designer which can be seen in the grill shape.
@@jamesmiller3639 yes, its such an attractive car to be honest. Focus RS and the Fiesta ST look gorgeous. The mk7 and mk7.5 ❤️
i think the new st looks a lot more grown up and classier.
That new Fiesta’s interior is wonderful. Drove one last week, and was pleasantly surprised by it!
I swear Matt needs a own TV-Show.
Cinnamon buns The Mat Watson Show 😁
Cinnamon buns he did have one....looking for classic cars for people...and charging a finders fee, sorry cannot remember the name of the show
it was "Find Me A Classic" on Insight TV

Sad we can’t get the Fiesta and Focus ST’s in the states anymore 😭
Sloonz Lel probs cos you guys can’t drive manuals and it’s mainly a car available in manual
It really is frustrating for us Americans who prefer manuals, or at least want to give them a try. There are fewer and fewer options available for us these days.
Aidan Boyer your younger generation is getting lazier and lazier, automatics are the first choice for a vehicle in North America, everywhere else in the world, manual cars are the most common. I’ve never driven an automatic, but I can definitely see the appeal due to it being much easier in pretty much every way.
@@drakevevo3710 more and more cars are edging to auto nowadays. Especially for bumper to bumper traffic. No need to use clutch so makes life much easier. Not to mention when cars go all electric. Manuals will be out the window. Sad to think really, I hate autos 🤣🤣🤣
It's your own fault. You buy trucks and SUVs only.
The old Black Fiesta ST was my car in this video (so proud) and nice to see so much support for the old shape. I do like the shape of my car too but I am so surprised by the difference in performance. 3 cylinders on turbo did best the old comprehensively and convincingly. Interior of the new Fiesta ST is cool. Time for my mini review on the new ST 😉 on my channel.
J TheAndroidFreak i prefer the new One. I have it
If it’s you car then it’s slow af. Most people that have dragged their stock ST have been getting 14.9 in the quarter mile 😂
Bruno Santos Did you have the old one before? How's the new so far even though it might be early to ask.
James Eaton I know and after driving the new one I so much wanna change. I am also considering the new Polo GTi as well.
I like the shape of the old Fiesta better as well.
can’t believe that a 1.5L 3 cylinder produces more horsepower than the 4.0L V8 that was used in old land rovers
I really hoped that this would be the case, Faster, More economical and a nicer exhaust tone. This car may have grown up in terms of size and may be better economically, but it certainly seems like a lot of fun. I can't wait to test drive one.
Sort of expected as the new ones got more power. The older shape still looks better.
now imagine this kind of 3 cyclinder beast in the new M3 in 2038.....or a lawn mower engine in the new Merc S class running 4 turbos at 500 psi.....
lingeringsoul lmao 😂
I hear that by 2030 all M cars will be electric :(
lol... shut up and take my money on the merc with a lawnmower engine...lol...
2038....? Given that you can already buy a 3-series with a 3-pot engine I'm not sure its that far away!.....but hopefully they'll take the plunge and go full EV before we descend into the realms of 3-cylinder M models.
Rip
This is the last of the Focus models to be sold here in the U.S the 2019 Fiesta ST is on the American market for sale but no more after it will be sold here
All well and good but from a tuning point of view you'll extract more from the 4 cylinder engine I'd imagine
A hell of a lot more
Well yes, but the 3 cylinders can be extremely powerful too as koenigsegg proved with their twin turbo making 600bhp
Max Pierrepont this is a fiesta not a super car lol
yo Alvin I am aware of that, I was jus try stating that while a 4 cylinder can have high tuning potential, a 3 cylinder can also produce a load of power
@@maxpierrepont6018 does that not have battery motors to?
prefer the front of the new one but the rear end still leaves something to be desired. The old model has a nice sporty look out back. Dang im bummed were not getting these over here in Canada.
Wildly pissed off that the US is not getting the new Focus or Fiesta. All we get is the "Focus Active" Subaru ripoff.
Should havr done one with the mk6ST ST150 as well! Would love to see how much of a difference the new mk8 actually makes over the first fiesta st, the mk6
The new Fiesta looks lika a family van.😂😂 In my mind, nearly every car brand made they're new models look more bad then the last one before. VW, Ford, etc.
Toyota ? Peugeot ? Cmon..
It does 😂😂😂
This car also comes with a tiny 1.0L gasoline engine with 140 hp, which is a cheaper but still fun alternative.
Is that the ecoboost st-line?
Exactly, I own one and it's definitely a fun car, but not as fun as the ST tho
Glover Carvalho Yeah I'm thinking about getting that one as insurance is much better
"This is progress". Just wait till 80k km, and 3 cyl engine with this amount of power gonna blow metal pieces everywhere
bs from uneducated people. Was never true and will never be.
My 2019 fiesta st now has 13000 on the clock and I’ve had nothing but trouble! Started to to bog out at mid revs, thought it may have had a blockage in the fuel filter, turns out the injectors were faulty. Back to Ford it went, one day later it was returned, ran fine for a month then, “check engine light” came on and car went into limp mode. Went in for diagnostic and it needed some firm ware installed, got it back the same day ran fine for about a week. Then on my way to work at 6am in the pissing rain there was a massive chuff of white smoke from the exhaust and what sounded like a tub of nails rattling around under the bonnet, the turbo had completely disintegrated. Back to ford it went, 1 week later it was returned, new turbo new seals and a fresh cambelt as the old one had been damaged by the literal explosion of the turbo. So far to this day it has been fine and has behaved itself, but if I didn’t buy it brand new all of the work carried out would have cost me £1200 for the turbo refit, £300 for the cambelt, £150 for the seals, £50 for diagnostics check, £300 for the firm ware update, over £2k worth of repair on a car that is 20 months old!
Nice of Ford to quote me for all the work to show me how much it would have cost me had I not brought the thing brand new, dick move.
Turns out these 3 cyl lumps are total dog shit on the reliability stakes, its actually an old model of eco-tec that had a very bad longevity and not the latest and greatest 3 cyl turbo you get in the Focus! Cheeky fucks, oh and don’t forget to change your oil every 5k unless you like garage bills that is. This new Fiesta ST is not worth it at all. Avoid like the plague.
If I remember correctly, then the new ST has the Overboost function as well and puts out 215hp with it. While the old one gets 200hp. In addition to that the new ST has launch control, wich gives it an advantage (ecept for the ST200, it gets 215hp as well, so that would be more interesting, and the gear ratio to the axle is a bit shorter than from the ST180).
I drive the MK7 ST with 182hp but with the suspension of the ST200. Even on long rides it is comfy but sporty. I like the look of it a lot more than the new one. Especially the Recaro seats and the rear look and feel far better then the new one in my opinion.
But I love the exhaust sound of the new ST, fold exhaust!
I would honestly rather buy the old one a second time if it isn't too used. Because for this little bit of performance difference I still think that I choose the right car for me. The old one just looks so much more sporty and youthful. (And I like the WRC Versions in looks more as well, but thats besides the topic)
I think it doesn't necessarliy matter if it's 3 or 4 Cylinders. Power is Power. It may have less cylinders and 100ccm less but every cylinder has 500ccm compared to 400ccm of the old. The Problem is rather, you get more power out of less. And the more power you take the higher the possibility that the engines shortens it's lifetime.
But the new ST ist still quite good, but no car is without fault and it is everybodys own taste that is important.
This is my opinion, I hope my english wasn't too bad.
I proudly own a 2016 Mk7 Fiesta ST-2 with the stage 1 mountune upgrade.
What a simple but very worthwhile upgrade for just over £700 !
Since, mine can sit neck & neck with the new shape mk8 ST (like one shown) after several tests.
It will also give a Focus 2-0 ST a very good run for it's money, being just a cars length behind on a marked 1/4 mile straight. 👏
P.S.
Obviously tested on private land, off the public roads 😜
Sad we can’t have this beauty in Canada...😥
Yan Savard Matt works in the UK, sorry.
laughing in italian*
wish people would stop saying "it has more power, it's going to win", it doesn't. they both have 197bhp but the new one as more torque. really surprised at how drastic the difference is in the real world in terms of performance though.
“It squatted down off the line”
Now I’m no expert but that makes me believe you were using the launch control feature and just not mentioning it...
You can make any fwd car squat with the handbrake on.
I'm still in love with my 2010 Titanium X :D
The rear of the old Fiesta definitely looks better than the rear of the new one.
You've never lost a drag race on this channel ... Always puts himself in the fastest car.
The content on this channel provides is so great! Love the new fiesta ST!
You got to remember they could of added more torque and BHP to the old ST when it was in the manufacturing stage. If both of these cars had identical power the four cylinder would definitely win over the three cylinder. When mapping a car you would get more performance out of the four cylinder.
My brother had mk7 stage 2r map with bolt ons makes 250 bhp and now he has mk8 1r map with just a k&n filter and it and makes 255 weird how stage 1 on mk8 is equivalent to a stage 2 on mk7
Be good to see the even older ST involved too.
I find it amazing that ford can make almost 200hp from a 1.5 3 cylinder
Tell that to Toyota now 😂
I'll find it even more amazing if it doesnt blow up after 50k miles like some of their other 3 cylinder and offerings 🤣
Will have to see if it ends up being a reliable engine, can’t imagine forcing out more power from a smaller engine with less cylinders is going to result in the same reliability?
The 4 cylinder has much higher tuning potential
No
What's the new engine like for tuning compared to the old ST? That's why the previous model is so loved and hopefully the new model could be the same
2019 Fiesta ST. Faster, more economical, nicer interior, looks like absolute ass. I'll keep my 2015 ST
Sean Patrick sounds better too tbh
It's not bad looking at all
siddharth kona Old shape is still nicer.
I miss these old drag races with fun little hatchbacks

Once I see ken block's new 1.5 3c. Mk8 match the mk7 600-650hp and on coarse than I'm dissing my mk7... So - never! :-)
Still think the old one looks alot better and will be interesting to see what happens when people start tuning the new one 🤔
The thing about these is that they never stay stock. I myself ended up with 240 hp mk7 and it's so much fun.
I have a fiesta with the same exterior and color in the video(the old one ) except it's only 1.25 liter and 82 hp =D
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THESE BEAUTIFUL REAR LIGHTS FORD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THEM
I like the horizontal ones much better. The old ones looked like the back of a minivan
Shame we’re not getting it here in the states. Actually our days of getting Ford cars like this are soon to be over altogether. Save the Mustang we getting no more Ford ‘cars’ only crossovers and trucks sadly
Chris Dooley Ford will probably bring them back in a few years, unless they want to make losses.
Curtis Shaw yup
But you have the old Model with Sync 3, i would very much love to have that one here in europe.
Ford still has its European operation which will produce the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo (= Fusion) cars.
IMO the reason why the US is not getting this new Fiesta is because it is too small inside for tall Americans.
MelCanuck people in most European countries are much taller than the average American so I don't think length has anything to do with it.
The old Fiesta ST should be able to do a 1/4 mile run in about 15 seconds or just under it. So should be about the same, not sure about the rolling test.
Sucks we can't get the new one in North America.
As others have also commented, the old one looks better, especially from the rear. New Fords in general look very generic.
Janne Väätäinen if by generic you mean dull and ugly I agree!
Yeah it looks like people who have no taste in cars what so ever will buy this car. They will probably get excited by how many cup holders there are!
i find it completely the other way around.
The old one looks like a deadborn duck baby only its mother could love.
The new one looks way more sporty and agressive.
@@Dominate955 nice. if i choose a better looking car then i have taste in cars.
@@SomeoneLikeEveryoneElse Yeah... I had a strong opinion then lol. The funny thing is that I've bought one of the new fiestas. The look of them has grown on me and I now prefer the look of them to the older models.
I have a 2009 Fiesta with a 1.25L 4 cylinder and i love it.
I mean it's faster and all (which makes sense because the engine is more powerful) but how does it proof that a 3 cylinder Engine is better than a 4 cyl?
They're trying to illustrate that the 3 cylinder Fiesta ST is still faster than the 4 Cylinder Fiesta ST. Even with one less cylinder and 100cc less displacement.
In reality I think they're about the same speed. The new 3 cylinder might be more efficient especially coasting on the highway in 2 cylinder mode when the 3rd de-activates.
Does it prove that all 3 cylinder cars (how many are there?) are better or worse than 4 cylinder ones? Nope.
Technically it isn't more powerful as the Mk7 has 197bhp on overboost for 15 seconds.
Richard Hurr the why didn’t it win. It was a land slide win here, not even close.
preludeF20Bking Driving skills, how quickly the cars got off the line, the old car has probably done more miles.
Peter Lustig - I totally agree. They havent looked at the bigger picture. I wouldnt be surprised if that 3 cylinder engine was only fit for the bin by 80k miles. I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.
It's nice to see that pitting a used Fiesta St, with all the trashing it underwent in its life, up against a new car is considered a good comparison.

Another thing , how old is the Mk7?
How many miles has it done ?
Has it been serviced recently ?
Has it been thrashed about over the last couple of years ?
Too many variables racing a Used over new car.
Just buy a Decent mk7 for about 10K shove a Bluefin in it . And job done .
When the Mk8 hits the used market buy one .
Why buy new and loose a heap of money as soon you drive it away .
Because some people like to buy new cars..? Its a more premium experience i guess, you can choose exactly what you want, and the money you lose is the price you pay for the experience, you have to do it at least once in your life
Mark C Bluefin? Better maps than that. Stick to Peron, Collins and Revo.
Richard Hurr
I just kind of said that because it’s very simple a lot less hassle,
I’ve used Bluefin on my Mk2 focus ST
It wasn’t all that bad tbh,
I bought a Mondeo 1.6 ecoboost titanium’x I Bluefin that , it was dreadful it made the car drive like 💩.
I’m using it on my Mk3 2014 focus ST
Again because I could press a button on my phone haveit delivered to me and I didn’t have to go nowhere .
It’s a lazy option I guess if not the best .
Again I’d be inclined to agree with you
It’s a very lumpy? / Spike’y power delivery . But I was just giving an example I suppose 😬.
I was thinking about Collins before I went my own way
Scorpion Cat/b non res . And me ole Bluefin ,
But I wanted my reservations answered
They didn’t answer any of my emails
Where as Bluefin always get back with a reply . So that was that.
Jacob Nickels Except not many people will build/order these cars as they want them since they'll be buying them from available stock, because you can get much better deals that way.
Some people don't like the idea of someone else driving the car before they did, but I do agree with you. I bought my car off the used market and probably will do again with my next car.
Why old one looks better?
Jesus, the new ST is BEAUTIFUL! FORD!!!!
Michael Turner-Smith how??
Even I think the same . Test Bot the old one looks more intimidating
Was this the revised mk7.5 with shorter gearing etc? Didn't expect that result to be so clean cut... I own a 2016 mk7.5 and have zero desire to upgrade even after this vid. Love my Orange ST, such a fun car to drive. How about head to head vid with the ST200?
The 1.5 will beat it to the mechanics and junkyard also.
Wheels and the back of the Old Fiesta are way better! Everything else- well done Ford
a simple £300 cp2 remap on the old st and it should easily keep up or be faster
but of course the new one should be a bit quicker standard and with a more modern interior so if you want a brand new car get the new one but I wouldn't change my mk7 for the new one knowing its safe to mod up to 300bhp or more. Also mk8 doesn't make the mk7 look outdated, I like the side window shape both similar.
That's what I have on mine. Not sure what the quarter mile would be, I got a 14.8 on public road timed with torque pro but I'm guessing it could get 14.5 on a decent surface with a good launch.

Please do a drag race between the old Ibiza FR and the new Ibiza FR
What's that airplane behind the cars? Is it an Airbus Skylink?
Agree, looks like super guppy
Thats stole my attention more
JonW AV Awesome, thank you for the heads up.
Incorrect, Aristotelis Mitsiou is right, it's an Airbus Skylink. The Super Guppy was built by Aero Spacelines not Airbus
I'm with you now JonW AV that makes complete sense, my fault for not seeing the apostrophe 😅😅
It's all good! You too fella 😊
Pal you didn't even have it in sport mode, definitely more responsive and slightly better power delivery.
I reccomend you do it again but have this mode on to see of there's a difference
i always thought the mk7 looked abit to chavy, boy racer type, i like the more subtle look on the mk8
Great video! Love the comparison videos between generations!
I like the rear of the new Fiesta, it looks like a grown car now.
Fiesta, a brilliant car, and oddly a car I can easily fit into the driving seat!
It has improved a lot but I would still buy the old model ST due to price
The new fiesta is growing on me but the backend of the old car seems like more of a party
That beat at the end is fire! 🔥
What is it
