it's so sad that there is barely any live footage of heatmiser on youtube
Neil Gust was great too. Great performer and great songwriter.
He was and still is! Check out his band "No. 2" if you haven't. They just made a new album, First Love. So many good songs on it, I love AOR and Night After Night.
Starts listening....WAIT I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS RECORDING. OMG IT'S HAVE YOU SEEN HER. NEW ELLIOTT AAAAAHHHHJJ
Oh my God, this is digital gold. Took a year for me to notice?!! Shameful. Lol, thanks for this gem. Greatest songwriter. Ever. Actually.
Mic City Sons remains one of my favorite 90's records.
Loving these old flashbacks of my show!!!!!
Yes I am. Pandora's Box ran for 3 years.
Was this a fund raiser thing?
@@konundrum3678 Yes, Pledge Drive.
@CarlyKpdx yes
Hi there. Was this broadcast live? Or was it recorded on an earlier date but just broadcast on the date listed on this video? I’ve been trying to organize Heatmiser tour dates and there’s a site that lists them as playing a show in Michigan on this date. So I thought maybe this was pre-recorded. Thanks!
i love how elliott's voice sounded circa 1994. also neil sounds great! his voice reminds me of collective soul's frontman whose name escapes me
I Mean It (later called Have You Seen Her) - 0:13
Unknown Neil Gust Song - 6:39
Half Right - 10:12
Another Neil Gust Song - 15:12
Comment if you know the two names of the two Neil songs
I’m still your man
What a funky version of half right! It sounds like it's only a brush snare, but still changes the dynamic so much
Thank you sincerely for uploading this and the other Heatmiser set. This is incredible stuff, you've made the year for ES fans everywhere.
Not this ES fan
my pleasure, what brought you here?
@@KingFaderRecordings Someone posted a link to this video on the Elliott Smith subreddit. This particular recording attracted a lot of attention from the fans because the first song in this set is a really rare one, there's previously been only 1 recording of it known about, and that's from 1997... and no studio version is known to exist. To hear it in such great quality here was a real treat, and personally my mind is blown that this song was actually written way earlier than when we thought!
oldpaleridge it blows my mind that stuff like this is out there and the people that have it probably don’t realise how precious of a thing they have. A live recording of an unreleased song that very few have heard before has obviously been out there for so long with no idea of how rare it is. Especially in this quality. The only thing would blow me away more now would be finding a version of kings crossing with the lyrics he sang in the one off live 2000 version. I’m sure there’s people that have old stranger than fiction tapes with no idea how rare those songs are.
Hey check out the Elliott playlist I’ve made, it’s on my channel. Will continually add to it. Pass it along.
“I couldn’t sing it no how”???
Elliott man, wtf you blow my mind!!! The only artist whose albums I can listen to everyday, sometimes multiple times and never tire of... been listening since the 90’s.
Thanks so much for releasing this, 2021 is off to a good start! X
his voice on Half Right is Perfect!
Oh Jesus how am i 40 and just now hearing this?! Do not ever take this down!!!!! So good I wanna cry
Insane ! I sometimes tell myself that I'll never hear anything new from Elliott again... and then a recording comes out from nowhere !
"Have you seen her" I never thought I would hear another version of one of my favourite ES's song ! And now I get it : it was a song dating from the Heatmiser era. The mystery clears up a bit... Thank you very much !!
same
0:00 Have You Seen Her (I'm Over It Now)
6:40 ???? (Windshield? Idk)
10:13 Half Right
14:12 Jam
15:11 ????
/r/unexpectedblockperce
is there another recording of the first song?
@@user-wk4je6ll2s ua-cam.com/video/uJazbFRFcnU/v-deo.html
The “jam” sounds an awful lot like “whatever (folk song in c)”
@@user-wk4je6ll2s I heard it first in a bootleg collection of live unreleased stuff, called Confusion. Go after it if you don't have it because, as with all Elliott's catalog, is a gem
Fucking hell this proto version of Have You Seen Her. Should’ve been a Heatmiser release. So thankful to discover this, thank you!!!
The last song is so good. I would do unspeakable things if a bunch of never heard before unreleased heatmiser tracks were leaked or released
Have you listened to their new album, a few unreleased songs on there
@@altaccount-yy3fw I have and it was great! Man camp especially
10:13 This is an awesome version of Half Right, holy smokes.
The first Neil song reminds me a lot of his songs on Mic City Sons, the songs on the first No. 2 record, and "Silent Treatment" (aka "Nothing Has Changed"). I think he even reuses some lyrics... "like a map of a broken heart" comes to mind. Here's the lyrics, as best as I could discern...
there's a crack along the windshield
like a map of your broken heart
'cause he's looking out the side view
he's picking things apart
then he gets in the backseat
just to make more room for you
he says so "you can take control now"
and "can I go back home now?"
but he comes back smiling, running in place
points and says "see the change in my face?"
and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?"
puts the brakes on with both heels, sends you through the windshield
showing you the purest blue that you've ever seen at night
then it's quiet down the coastline and it's quiet in the car
and he's hoping that you drop him closer to the bar
but he comes back smiling and running in place
points and says "see the change in my face?"
and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?"
I'm still your man, I'm still your man, I'm still your man
there's a crack along the windshield
like a map of your broken heart
'cause he's looking out the side view
he's picking things apart
but he comes back smiling, running in place
points and says "see the change in my face?"
and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?"
I used to dream about what new songs would sound like if he were still here today. I was always afraid of that point where the last new thing has been dug up and there are no more new songs to discover. I'm so ecstatic every time I find out we haven't hit that point yet and I hope more people with old recordings will release whatever they have in the future. You have NO idea what they mean to us. Thank you so much. And very cool to hear other heatmiser songs aside from elliott's : )
Yeah I was sad after I heard every Sparklehorse song and then they released the posthumous “Bird Machine” album. He also deleted himself and was a genius.
A nice piece of history
I tried to transcribe the "I'm Over It Now" (aka "Have You Seen Her") lyrics:
wave me off with both of your hands
shot up straight past the juvie home
they all smoke my mama's brand
left their nicotine prints on the phone
once they've known you for a while
things'll happen that you'll have to forget
'til you end up feeling like everyone
is just full of shit
I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, do you mean it?
the 'phetamine evil eyes follow me down every flight
if I'm not at home, know I'm out trying to score a new disguise
your teeth in your preaching and your war
versus everything you don't understand
your stupid setups make you feel like you're goddamn Superman
I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, do you mean it?
I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, do you mean it?
I'm over that now, I'm over that now
I'm over that now, I'm all over it now
I got acid in my teeth, I'm a dope for the narrow-and-straight
'cause it's such a kick to be shot up full of all your mute hate
you're a cough in my hand, that's all you are
that's all you'll ever mean to me
an infectious thing I spit out involuntarily
your arm's in your insults and your endless dreams to disintegrate me
you're already gone, dead and passed
out of my system, man, finally
I've been meaning to tell you I'm all over it now
man, I've been meaning to tell you I'm all over it now
I mean it, do you mean it?
I mean it, do you mean it?
I mean it, do you mean it?
I mean it, do you mean it?
thank you
These early lyrics in “have you seen her” sound like the warranted bitterness in trying to overcome the abusive experiences with his step father and mother, similar to Waltz No. 2 or No Confidence Man.
But obviously, I didn’t know the dude.
Imagine hearing half right on the way to work on its first broadcast. How would you change course? Where would your life go?
legendary
Thank you so much for uploading this.
thank you for this! remarkable.
That was sick! Made my night. Thank you for uploading.
That interview was so funny thanks haha
This is so great thank you so much 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
this is so great.
uhggg..... thank you so much. I think everyone already stated how I feel.
God, this is a beatiful gift. Thanks!
It's great to hear Elliot Smith sounding happy and fun..
I FUCKING LOVE UA-cam'S ALGORITHM SOMETIMES
i love the melody to that last song
so good omg
9:55 "Oh my God I was out of tune" :D
Love you guys❤😊
This recording sounds freaking awesome! Great job. Hilarious hearing how Elliott reacts to being out of tune Shows his integrity Thank you for sharing this!
Cool, thanks!
Also at 14:08 Elliott starts playing a more slack country version of The Biggest Lie.
sounds more like "They'll Never Take Her Love From Me" by Hank Williams
this is wonderful
thanks. what led you to it?
@@KingFaderRecordings The Elliott Smith subreddit!
Definitely never heard these lyrics wow great one very young right in between his younger self and later
This is so cool.
awesome saw them in Iowa City IA @ gabes Oasis...bought cop and speeder after...they have never left my rotation. think it was that year or so so long ago
Gust and Elliott are the best singers imo
They’re really the only singers in the band haha
@@travisgoldberg1693 in general i meant XD
Ahhh I love it
Someone told me to listen to it and I realized I was interviewing them. Jeez, I got sober that February, but still, should have remembered it.
@@ucbtrieb would've been a good memory. Glad you got sober, pal
You can totally tell he’s playing the leDomino guitar from Roman Candle as well
You know what you might be right it has that kinda warm antique sound to it. Good catch
Anybody know if that second song Neil is singing was released anywhere?
Fucking epic !!!
Around 24 mins I think I can hear elliot playing daytripper
Elliott is a meteor.
Will you ever release this in lossless form? Wav, flac, etc.
Could you upload this and the other show you've uploaded to mediafire so the files are less lossy? Thank you!
no, these videos are the best you'll get. the audio is not lossy even if the imagery looks as though.
video resolution settings have no affect on audio quality for UA-cam, it's always the same regardless.
Alright, thanks for getting back to my anyway!
@@KingFaderRecordings youtube automatically compresses audio tho
@@KingFaderRecordings the mp4a audio codec used to compress these for streaming is most definitely lossy. The modified discrete cosine transform is good, but not lossless. It's super noticable in good headphones. A flac version would be appreciated. Most importantly, thank you for uploading this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Audio_Coding
@@KingFaderRecordings please? Archive.org flac files?
Can you please correct the spelling of his name? It’s Elliott 🌸🌈 also... thank you so much for this upload
♥️
I remember you. Thanks for posting Elliott songs for a long long time🙂
Mymayapapaya is an OG!
Does anyone have any tabs or chords for the first song?
Does anyone know the chords to the first song?
from hearing i think it's Em C B D(or G) B G Am(i think) then a D#
7:11
7:12 is a great photo.
Love it.
Like the guitar, too.
What's the first song
I mean it (later called have you seen her)
13:03 :)
Plainclothes Man should’ve been a hit. I think maybe Elliott’s vocal was too ungrunge. That’s what I’d say.
