Hi there. Was this broadcast live? Or was it recorded on an earlier date but just broadcast on the date listed on this video? I’ve been trying to organize Heatmiser tour dates and there’s a site that lists them as playing a show in Michigan on this date. So I thought maybe this was pre-recorded. Thanks!
He was and still is! Check out his band "No. 2" if you haven't. They just made a new album, First Love. So many good songs on it, I love AOR and Night After Night.
@@ΑνδρεαςΠαπακωνσταντινου-λ1β I heard it first in a bootleg collection of live unreleased stuff, called Confusion. Go after it if you don't have it because, as with all Elliott's catalog, is a gem
@@KingFaderRecordings Someone posted a link to this video on the Elliott Smith subreddit. This particular recording attracted a lot of attention from the fans because the first song in this set is a really rare one, there's previously been only 1 recording of it known about, and that's from 1997... and no studio version is known to exist. To hear it in such great quality here was a real treat, and personally my mind is blown that this song was actually written way earlier than when we thought!
oldpaleridge it blows my mind that stuff like this is out there and the people that have it probably don’t realise how precious of a thing they have. A live recording of an unreleased song that very few have heard before has obviously been out there for so long with no idea of how rare it is. Especially in this quality. The only thing would blow me away more now would be finding a version of kings crossing with the lyrics he sang in the one off live 2000 version. I’m sure there’s people that have old stranger than fiction tapes with no idea how rare those songs are.
I Mean It (later called Have You Seen Her) - 0:13 Unknown Neil Gust Song - 6:39 Half Right - 10:12 Another Neil Gust Song - 15:12 Comment if you know the two names of the two Neil songs
“I couldn’t sing it no how”??? Elliott man, wtf you blow my mind!!! The only artist whose albums I can listen to everyday, sometimes multiple times and never tire of... been listening since the 90’s. Thanks so much for releasing this, 2021 is off to a good start! X
I used to dream about what new songs would sound like if he were still here today. I was always afraid of that point where the last new thing has been dug up and there are no more new songs to discover. I'm so ecstatic every time I find out we haven't hit that point yet and I hope more people with old recordings will release whatever they have in the future. You have NO idea what they mean to us. Thank you so much. And very cool to hear other heatmiser songs aside from elliott's : )
Yeah I was sad after I heard every Sparklehorse song and then they released the posthumous “Bird Machine” album. He also deleted himself and was a genius.
Insane ! I sometimes tell myself that I'll never hear anything new from Elliott again... and then a recording comes out from nowhere ! "Have you seen her" I never thought I would hear another version of one of my favourite ES's song ! And now I get it : it was a song dating from the Heatmiser era. The mystery clears up a bit... Thank you very much !!
The first Neil song reminds me a lot of his songs on Mic City Sons, the songs on the first No. 2 record, and "Silent Treatment" (aka "Nothing Has Changed"). I think he even reuses some lyrics... "like a map of a broken heart" comes to mind. Here's the lyrics, as best as I could discern... there's a crack along the windshield like a map of your broken heart 'cause he's looking out the side view he's picking things apart then he gets in the backseat just to make more room for you he says so "you can take control now" and "can I go back home now?" but he comes back smiling, running in place points and says "see the change in my face?" and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?" puts the brakes on with both heels, sends you through the windshield showing you the purest blue that you've ever seen at night then it's quiet down the coastline and it's quiet in the car and he's hoping that you drop him closer to the bar but he comes back smiling and running in place points and says "see the change in my face?" and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?" I'm still your man, I'm still your man, I'm still your man there's a crack along the windshield like a map of your broken heart 'cause he's looking out the side view he's picking things apart but he comes back smiling, running in place points and says "see the change in my face?" and "how can I convince you that I'm still your man?"
awesome saw them in Iowa City IA @ gabes Oasis...bought cop and speeder after...they have never left my rotation. think it was that year or so so long ago
This recording sounds freaking awesome! Great job. Hilarious hearing how Elliott reacts to being out of tune Shows his integrity Thank you for sharing this!
I tried to transcribe the "I'm Over It Now" (aka "Have You Seen Her") lyrics: wave me off with both of your hands shot up straight past the juvie home they all smoke my mama's brand left their nicotine prints on the phone once they've known you for a while things'll happen that you'll have to forget 'til you end up feeling like everyone is just full of shit I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, do you mean it? the 'phetamine evil eyes follow me down every flight if I'm not at home, know I'm out trying to score a new disguise your teeth in your preaching and your war versus everything you don't understand your stupid setups make you feel like you're goddamn Superman I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, do you mean it? These early lyrics in “have you seen her” sound like the warranted bitterness in trying to overcome the abusive experiences with his step father and mother, similar to Waltz No. 2 or No Confidence Man. But obviously, I didn’t know the dude.
Well it's been four years but there's a tab on ultimate guitar. It's capo 4th fret Em C B/C B D and Am. Idk how to write the specifics but it's a fun song to figure out and if you haven't yet man give it a shot, and since the "I mean it" if you sing anything at all. That's part is just C Em and then C Em Am
