I've played guitar my whole adult life and still can never get how he pulls off these great little melodies and riffs without ever losing the main rhythm of the song.
A perfect example of the right interviewer with the right person to interview. I loved the comment about Shakespeare and Elliott's honest interest when the interview mentions his use of iambic pentameters. Super sweet interaction
What a fucking great answer to the question, which is a fair question to ask him, why he decided to use more instrumentation on XO - "well before I just didn't really have any other instruments around." What an artist.
what an awesome setlist. love hearing pitseleh live. funny how she mentions the no name songs and then when he plays happiness he says this song doesn't really have a name
i hear that... he's been my favorite musician since 2008.. im 33 now.. nobody can top Elliott.. passionate, melodic, lyrical, songwriting prodigy.. great purity in all of it.. never identified with someone's art so well
Been since November been on a Elliott listening time hasn’t stoppped I admit did but now Yet still going been into since 2018 but came back still can’t stop … in a very hard time. u are unstoppable I love you Elliott though u died 2003 I was like 6 I still can’t let it go this time.. u are unstoppable why? You’re terrific I will not stop here on out I never comment I know I can’t let it go u are real. You are my forever .thanks for helping me through my depressing time. I love you Elliott my mom committed suicide but I know you didn’t even if u did , I always will listen .! You are loved Elliott Steven (my brothers name ) close to me too I love u forever . God bless you
i kno... i'd kill to play like him.. somehow showy and subtle.. right, being a great guitarist isn't about ripping out EVH solos.. its about this.. creative beautiful melodic movements while being able to throw in nuance licks that heighten the stakes without even realizing it while listening,, like its all just so meant to be..
@@toneohm his sound is so unique and perfect, sometimes it feels impossible to play what hes doing but maybe thats just because barely anyone can reach his level.
World Live Cafe? Philly... my hometown.. if only i wasn't 10 in 1999... hahaha,, damn.. this girl has a really sweet voice btw.. i got to play n sing Pitseleh for a live audience somewhere near South street one night at an open mic.. can't believe in dont remember the street.. damn.. somewhere between 2nd and Broad st... hahaha does narrow it down? 12 blocks,, real back alley kinda bar.. so much of the best years of my life are a blur... : / so hooked on Elliott for so many years.. had to let him go for a while.. nice to visit now and again.. his music still means the world to me.. wow.. Happiness still didn't have a name at this point!??? another favorite of mine to play on guitar.. i need to get back into playing.. really want to learn Last Call.. playing Kiwi Maddog would be fun too
Id genuinely feel a lot better about the world if he were still here. its not just because I miss him, I think he'd have an amazing impact on the youth today
I've heard this version of Happiness before, but never knew where it came from. Thank you so much for posting the source! And I love how the interviewer asked interesting questions. Thanks again
His comment about all of his songs having something in them that he wanted to fix but ran out of time is accurate to all the greatest songwriters. They never see their songs as "finished" pieces of art the way the audience does. To us it's like, "what could you possibly improve?!".
I’m pretty sure the music is sped up and this sounds a bit higher in pitch and faster tempo than it should be. Even still great interview and a great performance
That picture is amazing..
He's so happy looking and full of life ..
A shooting star that shined too quick..
Miss you , Elliott..
I've played guitar my whole adult life and still can never get how he pulls off these great little melodies and riffs without ever losing the main rhythm of the song.
He was incredible at self-accompaniment. The only other person who is in the same realm to me would be Richard Thompson.
He's a fucking genius
His guitar playing on Son of Sam is insane. He was so phenomenally gifted.
A perfect example of the right interviewer with the right person to interview. I loved the comment about Shakespeare and Elliott's honest interest when the interview mentions his use of iambic pentameters. Super sweet interaction
his voice for pitseleh is so beautiful
this is what a musician interview should sound like. interesting questions on ones craft. he seemed to appreciate it.
What a fucking great answer to the question, which is a fair question to ask him, why he decided to use more instrumentation on XO - "well before I just didn't really have any other instruments around." What an artist.
Elliott, we are missing and remembering you today. We know that you have found peace

I seriously wonder if I‘ll ever get tired of this mans music. It‘s been 3-4 years already..
Nahhh, there’s not a single song I’m sick of after 16 years. The discography is ridiculously huge for the time he had on this earth.

I concur with others, I was around 22 when I started, now 38. Definitely took breaks, but never too long though.
@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 around 16 years for me also, I am 38 now, how about you?
I feel like this is one of the few Interviews he felt comfortable in. Beautiful! Never delete this!!! Thanks.
my absolute favorite rendition of pitseleh, even compared to the studio version. his voice is just so perfect here
This is the best Elliott interview I've heard.
Rest Easy , Mr. Smith..
He was a master of the guitar. So underrated.

One of my favorite guitarists and really masterful with it. I wish he was more recognised on those kinds of lists.
wow. new favorite picture of him

I love the interviewer she's very knowledgeable and actually seems like she's having a genuine conversation
His vocals here are gorgeous. I feel like crying hearing him singing Pitseleh. What tremendous artist he was.
Please never delete this❤️

this is incredible on so many levels
Thanks for sharing... perceptive interview. Always great to hear an Eliot Smith performance not encountered previously. What a talent...
He sounds so good here
This is one of his underrated great pieces. So much going on.
pls never delete this ♡
Such a pretty smile
