Shawn, you're my favourite You Tube guitarist - your melodic sense is second to none! I wish you would make TAB available to buy for the things you play on your videos!
Shawn, I owned the UA OX and just didn't bond with it. A lot of tweaking to get it even close to sounding like my Marshall 4x12 with 25 Watt Greenbacks. I was able to return it and I picked up the Suhr Reactive Load IR. Your video here was a big reason why. Man, am I grateful. Right out of the box, setting 1.2 with the 4x12 Greenback HiGn 57 121, it sounds amazingly close to my beloved cabinet with my 1990 Marshall 2555 Jubilee. I've tried some Ownhammer and Celestion IR's and they are very good, but the Suhr 1.2 setting is just amazing. Thanks so much and terrific tone and playing as always!!
Hi Shawn, I really dig this video! In fact, you convinced me to buy this today. I was debating to get a Two notes CAB m and a captor but this is more or less the same thing but in one unit. Saves space, less to set up, etc etc. I found a great deal on Reverb and can't wait to start using it for our worship band and at home for late night jamming with my Bassman. Thanks again for this video!
Great demo man! Really nice tones and playing in the intro. Nice to hear some good clean and edge of dirt tones since most demos of the Suhr are quite gainy. I think just pushed me over the edge lol.
Nice Vid, nice demo Shawn. I have a BluBox that has some great IRs, I have a 1 x 12" isolation cabinet, and then an 8ohm reactive load. I've considered this Suhr Reactive Load/IR box ... the investment to make that part of my gear is making me hold back right now. The portability and size of this Box makes it an attractive alternative to my current set up.
This is awesome! I need to pick one of these up...I've gone to using an HX Stomp for my DI gigs but this would give me the option to use my beloved Dr Z amp without the stage volume issue and have those wonderful real tube amp tones.
Wow, I hope this tune ends up on the next Shawn Tubbs album. It's amazing! I also love the overall demo, and admire your playing as always. I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on the reactive load, such a cool piece of gear. Thanks for such a great video!
Always beautiful, lyrical soloing! Man, what an inspiration you are! Most times I get lost in your soloing and pay no attention to the gear that you demo!!........will try to do better 'bout that. 😊
Just got one of these used. The IR output is barely audible, vs the non-IR output. Using a 100w Marshall head @8Ohms, and sounds fine going through my real cab as well. I verified the IR's are in their folders, so not sure what else it could be? I tried balanced and unbalanced cables as the outputs to my DAW.
When you are using the 'through' will it also serve as an attenuator for the signal that the cab sees? Trying to see if it can send an IR signal to FOH but an attenuated load bearing signal to the cab as well. Thanks for the great demo!
Great intro song and playing. I'm confused about either: Suhr I.R. or Fryette PS-2 or Two Notes Captor X - just to tame a Fender Princeton for a NYC apartment? Stay Safe.
If you would rather just attenuate your Princeton and play thru it alone without using IR's, the Fryette would be a good choice, or maybe look at the Tone King Iron Man 30 watt attenuator. If you're wanting to run your Princeton through a reactive load and record it via IR's, Captor X is hard to beat.
I do agree with you on that. I've noticed a few are finally starting to switch over to XLR for any DI outs. From asking around, it seems the builders are worried that some won't realize that though it looks like a "mic" output, it's not a "mic" level output.
@@filip5150 Based on a review of the specs on the Suhr website, you could use a male TRS 1/4" to male XLR cord for balanced output to a mixing board. It will accept unbalanced (standard TS guitar cord) with the caveat that there may be more noise, though probably not enough to notice if the run is short.
Shawn great demo and playing!! Will def consider this unit! Was wondering what you are using for switching multiple heads without having to unplug speaker cables- reaching behind the heads etc. , I am setting up a similar set up. Thanks so much for any recommendations. ✌🏼🎸
Great video, music and playing! I purchased this unit a couple of months ago and I cannot figure out why I have to put the master on my amp below 2 to avoid clipping. I’ve tried through my mixer, straight to the studio monitors and through the 2i2 Scarlett. It’s driving me crazy. I have the Carvin Legacy III. Through the speaker cab it sounds fantastic with the master cranked. Any input?
By clipping, do you mean the input to your mixer? If so, make sure your mixer channel input is set to line level or +4db. You may have the input on your mixer set to mic level which will clip right away.
Thanks so much! I still have both the Suhr and the OX but I prefer the OX for tracking because it's easier to make quick changes with mics and placement as well as levels.
Shawn! What do you think about the Suhr Reactive Load I.R. compared with the UA Ox Box, just regarding the load box and I.R. portions of the devices? (I know UA doesn't refer to their speaker sim as I.R...but regardless.) I understand the Reactive Load IR doesn't do attenuation, but besides that, how would you rate each of these against each other?
They both sound outstanding from that regard. It basically boils down to what you need. If you need to have complete control and make tweaks to different mics and rooms as well as have delay, reverb and comp effects, then spend the extra cash and get the OX. If you have great sounding IR's that you use all of the time and just need a Reactive Load box with IR capabilities, the Suhr RLIR is really hard to beat.
I definitely think the UA OX is worth the price but that being said, if you don't need the bells and whistles and just want a great IR box with Reactive Load? This is the best I've played.
The first 4 bars of that solo is basically a melody I had in my head. The rest was improve and I just tried to stay within the motif I created. Thanks for the kind words and the great question!
@@ShawnTubbs That's what i was guessing. I'm always interested in trying to get a little glimpse into the mind of my favorite players! Thanks for your time!
When using the suhr reactive load Is there any way to run a simultaneous dry direct signal to another track for reamping later or to use with plugin amp sims?
I don't think so because you would need to bypass straight thru with the GTR signal. There's an unfiltered output but that would still include the amp input.
Hi Shaw, thanks for sharing and I really like your intro solo playing and tone! Could you please share the backing track so I can play along with it? Thank you!
Hey Shawn, I've recently picked one of these up and hooked it up as directed but I'm only getting the dry audio out of the R speaker unless I use a stereo effect such as the Neunaber reverb plugin. Have you run into this?
