    Awesome, if not essential tool, if you want to convert your authentic tube amp signals to line level.
    Not so cheap, but worth the money. One big advantage of the Fryette is, that it works with 2/4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker outputs. other ones are the flexible connection options, although first some use of the manual will be helpful, as all the controls and connections and their relationships are not always self-explanatory without the manual and if you use the wrong controls with the wrong connections, nothing happens.
    Next advantage is, that you can use is fully passive as reactive load box, or active with or without cabinet IR's. The 16 preset places are enough, the built-in presets already sound good, but of course everybody has his own favorites, which additionally can be fine-tuned.
    Even in passive mode you can select between different reactive load modes (Edge - Brite - Flat and Deep - Warm - Flat for both treble and bass response.) I personally anyway prefer using Flat, the rest I do with IR fine tuning, but the options certainly can make sense with some more unbalanced sounding amps.
    I already had the smaller AMT Power Eater, but this one only worked with amps up to 15W, sounded nice and was well usable, but by far not as good as the Fryette, also hardly offered any fine adjustment options and then tried Torped Captor, which was an immediate return, as it sounded horrible, swallowed almost every bass and a good, well adjusted tube amp treble sudddenly sounded as scratchy as the one of a transistor amp, which is exactly not, what I expect from a reactive load box. Also the built-in fan was horribly loud, opposite to the one of the Fryette.
    Great for recording, amp capturing or even simply for using your own stage amp at bedroom level through your computer monitors...
    More expensive than most of my tube amps, but for the results ok! I anyway only need it once for all of them, but not any more real cabinets and speakers...
    Also the results sound much better and more authentically than even the ones with the best power attenuators.

    • @BigHairyGuitars
      @BigHairyGuitars  2 роки тому +1

      It require a short length IR. If I recall, it's down to about 20ms. There's a littttttle more breath to the longer versions of the same IR's , but the 20ms IR's that come stock sound awesome! There is software it comes with that allows you to load your own IR's, and will convert IR's to it's required format over USB.

      @@BigHairyGuitars I have toyed with IR lengths for some time…After 100ms,I can’t tell the difference,but 20ms sounds a bit different than 100ms….less low end and fullness,which usually gets carved out anyway in a mix…..I do use longer ones mostly though….I have 3 Power Stations,so I need the PLIR like I need a hole in the head,just curious about the IR loader..

    I remember seeing a video where you compare a kemper, power station, oxbox and some other devices .
    The kemper and power station felt the most dimensional and natural to me. I’m not used to these devices, power load is the same thing as reactive load?
    I can tell I don’t like most of them, including suhr which kinda scoops mids a little and boosts high end .
    I did like the sound of the fryette compared to the others but don’t like how it alters tone if used for attenuation .
    So this would sound the same? I will say for the price though, a kemper seems to beat almost everything. Though the freyette sounded second best to me, just a bit more top end and hardness to the sound .

    One thing I suspected, but now have confirmed... is that Steven Fryette is a bit more intelligent than I am 🤪 I have a PS-100 and absolutely love it... it's basically the most amazing tool I've ever possessed. I was trying so hard to avoid purchasing products that would result in some redundancy (ie, paying more money for a full featured device that many features of which I already possess the functionality 🤓 And for some reason, I was having difficulty figuring out if the Power Load IR would address my needs without paying for redundancy. Unless I'm tipsy, and I am... I think my brain just put together what I had hoped and trusted for a long time, that the Power Load IR was designed to work seamlessly with the PS products. I believe this is the case. And thus, I have to have a PLIR

    I think this unit and its predecessor is way better than the PS2A or PS100. For re-amping just go via one of the line outs into the effects return of another (tube)amp. This setup comes with less hum and no fan noise, which bugs me when playing at lower volumes using the Power Station. A lot of people buy a Power Station for playing at (bed)room levels. This in mind, a unit creating substantial fan noise is a bit counter intuitive. Power Station is a great concept, but in my opinion they cramped too much electronics and tube circuits into a fairly small enclosure. This is asking (so in my studio) for problems when it comes to noise issues. Not so with their Power Loads (or the Suhr Reactive Load).
