Finally...someone who does a proper test. You used same barrel lengths, same brand and type within the brand for ammo, and an identical test. I appreciate your obvious lack of bias in doing this test. Plenty of gun channels could learn a thing or two from you about an actual scientific style test.
Thanks for not using a 10” barrel for one round and 20” for the other while using hollow points in one vs fmj for the other in the same target after shooting it up with the first gun. This was actually a fair comparison.
Wow! That was eye-opening. I knew 7.62 Warsaw would be more devastating to the chicken, but I thought 556 would penetrate the gel further. I was completely wrong. Ballistics will keep you on your toes.
The 55 grain v max round used in this test is one of the worst rounds you can use in the AR platform. It's designed for small game and not deigned to penetrate.
Small diameter fast bullets are good for channeling energy into a small point, good for breaking through thin bullet resistant things, but the more material you must pass through, the more mass and momentum matter.

0-150 yards and it's not even fair, 762x39 is absolutely devastating in comparison to the 556 largely due to the frontal mass of the bullet and it's energy. And actually the time 5.56 has equel to or more energy is at 500 yards from what I've seen on most load charts and aft that range both are less than 400 ft lbs meaning you're now shooting a bullet that wont work as advertised so not alot of fragmenting, yawning, tumbling, or hydrostatic shock meaning do you want a 22 cal hole with some expansion or a 30 caliber hole with some expansion the thing is 5.56 isnt more accurate at that range it has less drop signoficantly seen after 300 yards
My mothers debating on whether to buy an AK or an AR for when shit possibly hits the fan i gave her the best information i could for both but i need some 2nd opinions for either one any suggestions? (Anyone can answer)
I'm putting this up for reloaders that an internet site called Fancy Brass sells once fired 7.62x39 brass really cheap and Graf & Sons has a great supply of PPU 311 bullets. I am buying the PPU 311" bullets in 150 grain soft points for reloads 7.62x39. I think someone could come close to the 30-30 win using the PPU 311" 150 grain reloaded 7.62x39. I bought 1000 once fired 7.62x39 brass from Fancy brass with shipping I think was around $130
we a fair comparison and that we got . I love ❤️ honest bullet tests. clean the chickens up chicken and dumplings for supper yum yum. reload42 years so many calibers, so much testing, so much fun .I concluded many years ago that meat, bone , fluid , flesh were the very best way of testing ammunition especially self defense ammunition. here in North Carolina believe me we are truly blessed. during our regular deer hunting hunting you can use any center fire pistol or revolver, any caliber, any barrel measurement. to legally harvest deer . what better way to see what your weapons and ammunition will do . big stray dogs would work good but highly illegal. plus I personally don’t know anyone who eats dog but deer about every one where I live. I’ve only killed one with a pistol. but I might for the the first time this deer season during rifle season go totally pistol/ revolver. a word of the wise there is no garentee either man or beast will stop dead but run off and need to be tracked out. if not a good tracker and no bullet pass though they can be not easy for a good seasoned tracker. so use good judgment on your capibalitys . if I’m dought shoot with a far more effecent rifle or shotgun. know your limitations. I greatly enjoyed the video. Nana and papa the hunter wishing you well.
I think you had better shot placement w/ the 7.62x39 You hit more center in the chickens breast then compared to the .556 which was a bit lower. I feel this test, due to shot placement is not a fair comparison and should not be deemed as such. If need be use a bench rest to obtain exact shot placement. I do thank you for the great effort put forth and look forward to another similar test.

They make ak ruffles in 5.56 and ars in 7.62 best for what environment
I bought her both
I'm checking 7.62 prices now. It would "seem" to be the better choice, however if the round costs 2x as much? I'd be forced to take the 5.56...
@Condor44 mil surplus 7.62 is dirt cheap. 5.56 is a rip off
I'm putting this up for reloaders that an internet site called Fancy Brass sells once fired 7.62x39 brass really cheap and Graf & Sons has a great supply of PPU 311 bullets.
Could you do the same test with 10.5” guns?
I don’t currently have a x39 that short but I’ll see what I can come up with
we a fair comparison and that we got .
Tennessee is pretty similar with hunting regulations.
Any centerfire cartridge .22 caliber or larger.
Should have used 556 75 grain
Just curious... how far away was he shooting from?
About 7-8 yards. Not far at all
I think you had better shot placement w/ the 7.62x39 You hit more center in the chickens breast then compared to the .556 which was a bit lower.
I feel this test, due to shot placement is not a fair comparison and should not be deemed as such. If need be use a bench rest to obtain exact shot placement. I do thank you for the great effort put forth and look forward to another similar test.
There is always going to be that one guy that will not accept the results mainly because of being biased 🙄 towards something but it's always going to happen no matter what 😢✌️🫵
Shows why 7.62x39 is the king 🤴 in small caliber arms. With right load will make for awsome deer 🦌 rd this winter . 556 is just over rated coyote rd with right load I say will do the job.
I’ve not taken a deer with it yet but I’m planning to
I would not place any relevance on what caliber is better based on this test, but of the ROUNDS tested, in this instance the 7.62x39mm tested was better than the specific 5.56mm tested.
If 7.62x39 is king, the Russian would never consider switching to 5.56 for AK-74.
I prefer the 7.62 but sometimes if I’m shooting fast it jumps around alittle, where a 5.56 in able to get quicker follow up shots
What tour of magazine on the 7.62?
Edit: my bad, it’s a magpul AK mag
Have you ever tested Underwood's Controled chaos on chickens?
Not yet
@@thegundungeon that would make a good video
@@thegundungeon I tried a Controlled Chaos in 7.62x39 on a pork shoulder. You will not ne disappointed!
Whoever said 7.62x39 doesnt cause as much flesh damage obviously knows nothing about what they're talking about
Anyone who says that is clearly uninformed even without this test lol
@@8166PC1 idk because from my owb expierence on game even fmj 7.62 outperforms hunting 5.56 loads
@@8166PC1 if you ever get a chance pugs are a good option there's so many that ther are no limits in Texas
It's AR fanboys who say those dumb things all over the internet. On gory sites I've seen 7.62x39 leave horrific damage on soft tissue & I assume it is with FMJs.
I like both calibers BTW.
7.62x39 has the same ft/lb or energy at 150 yards as a .223 out of the barrel.
7.62x39mm > 5.56x45mm / 223... Every person, every army and every agency fear the AK-47 chambered in 7.62x39mm lol. when it goes off; DUCK! use to have an SKS back in my youth, me and my brothers chop many pine trees with the 7.62x39mm round. penetration and damage is crazy
Great video
That’s a V-Max .223 so that’s not very comparable AT ALL
I’d love to see it done with comparable projectiles
Love the videos
Not much talking straight to the good stuff
Great job
Well you used a damn prairie dog bullet for 556.
Don't want shot be either. But the difference speaks for itself. That 2nd chicken was almost in half.
7.62 vs 5.56 is never going to end.
Just like how 9mm vs .45 ACP is never going to end.

@@Catgat37 10mm.... DONE
@@yellaworld317 I don't know man. I had a Glock 20 for a bit that was highly unreliable with cycling anything other than weak 10mm. I would get failures to feed and failures to eject multiple times per magazine. My Sig P226 in 357 sig with the right ammo is more energy than 200gr Buffalo bore heavy 10mm. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a 10mm in a reliable platform.

Different bullets for different purposes. There's no need to have a competition over which is superior.
Sure there’s a need. Entertainment lol
A Lot of 762x39 Haters need to see this.
