    Hope this helps with your project. Most drywall is mounted to brick or block with furring strips. If there is no wood between drywall and block/brick then it is probably plaster on block. It helps to drill pilot holes to see what your dealing with. When buying bolts to attached mount to wall always grab a couple options for types of hardware and grab one more than you think you need (nothing more frustrating that screwing up and making ANOTHER trip to the hardware store) Here is a link to all my tv mount videos. Please leave any comments and questions and I will respond as quickly as possible!

    think i'd drill 1 hole and secure 1 corner of the mount to the wall, level it, then drill out the other 3 holes using the mount as a template.

    What do you do if the furring strips are not centered? Mine seem to be pretty far apart. Would it be possible to wedge a piece of wood under the drywall, or do you have to mount to furring strips?

    I curious why you didn't trust just drilling a pilot hole with your concrete bit and then screw a 3" Concrete Bolt into the wall? After talking to 2 different people, that's the way I was told to do it. Do you feel that is wrong, or this is just another way to mount it? I have a 1920s Craftsman home, so there is no drywall, it's 1" plaster with a small 2" x 1/4" thick firring and then the brick (I'm mountain my TV above the Fireplace.

    I live in an apartment so I’m not sure what’s behind what I assume is drywall (idk much about this) but the outside of the building is all brick and my walls inside are textured drywall. I can’t even hammer a nail in more than maybe an inch before it hits (brick?) so maybe there’s no wood? It definitely sounds solid when you knock on it.

    • @how2q
      @how2q  11 місяців тому

      You may have 1/2 inch drywall on 1/2 inch wood strips. They would be an inch. I would be surprised if it was drywall right on block or brick. They used to do that in older homes that had plaster walls. If it’s newer construction than it should have the wood strips.

    Do you feel this method would work if you also had 1” foam insulation panels between the furring and the block. Should I just add an extra inch to the length of the anchor? This is for an exterior block wall.

    Hi Quinn, I'm a fellow Phoenician. 🌵 I'm learning to DIY so this may be a dumb question. If there's an outlet in your TV wall then how could it only be furring strips between the drywall and block? Wouldn't it need to be framed out to provide depth for outlets? Thank you

    • @how2q
      @how2q  Місяць тому

      There are a couple options that wouldn’t require it to be framed out. There are shallow gang boxes (not all are created equal). A lot of times w block, installer will cut into block to allow for depth of outlet box (aka single gang box)

    thank you for this video. i live in peoria in a 1960's built home and its block construction as well. One of the rooms that i'm trying to mount to, is basically how you explained it, but i'm not sure if there are furring strips between the drywall and block lol. i'll have to try that stud buddy. i'm mounting a loft bed to the wall, what do you suggest for anchors or bolts?

      Take a small drill and drill into drywall. If there is a gap you will feel it right away. I think tapcons would work well. Another option is using anchor sleeves.

    Trying to hang my tv in my condo. The wall was originally brick separating the neighboring condo. Well one owner put drywall and studs as well. Do I have to go through the drywall, studs AND brick? It's a 65" TV and I really don't trust just the studs.

    • @how2q
      @how2q  8 місяців тому

      I’m assuming if ur side is drywall, it is exactly the setup in this video. When u say “studs” they are probably 1 x 2 furring strips. So the studs you are hitting are not deep at all. Without looking at it, it’s tough to say. But I really doubt they used 2 x 4 studs. I would do it exactly the way I did it in this video if I were you. Just my suggestion.

    I live in a super old apartment in NYC, that's very wonky, crooked walls and floors - exposed brick that gradually appears to have drywall wall covering it (I know this because the grooves between the bricks are just slightly visible but as you go along the wall they begin to disappear - I guess whoever built it applied the drywall directly on the brick, but unevenly). I'm pretty sure there's no furring studs. Is it still safe to go straight in with those anchors?

    Great info, thanks for the detailed explanation. I apologize if you've made a video showing it but how would you run the cables down the wall on this one? It looked like the outlet was right next to the mount but most of the time the outlet is going to be closer to the ground right?

    • @how2q
      @how2q  Рік тому

      Yes, true… I actually added this outlet when we were renovating our house. If you are trying to put a TV over a fireplace you’re going to want an outlet above fireplace. If you had a traditional mount that wasn’t electric, I’m not sure the cord from TV would even reach a side outlet. Big picture you would just need to add electrical behind the drywall. sounds involved, but usually pretty easy. I set this up myself, but comfortable with electrical and drywall repair. These days I’m sure it would cost quite a bit to do the same thing with an electrician and someone to come out and repair drywall.

    I got a shelf set from Ikea and I realized I have brick behind my wall. There's a rail that goes across the top, with hanging rails going downward from it, all have screw holes that are 1/4" thick, do you think I can use this method? Are there screws that can do this that are that thin?

    • @how2q
      @how2q  Рік тому +1

      I would us tapcon screws. If u have a 1/4 in screw then use a 3/8” drill bit. When you go to the hardware store, just look on the box and it will tell you how big of a drillbit to use. But with tapcons you always want to use slightly smaller drill bit in the screw you are using.

    • @crayh5o
      @crayh5o Рік тому

      @@hamzaxz7043 Based on @how2q 's recommendation above, I did not go through any furring strips. I have 1/2" drywall and a 1" gap from the furring strip so I used 2-3/4" tapcons which means I embedded the tapcons about 1-1/4" into the concrete block. (I could not find 2-1/2" tapcons at my big box store as @how2q recommended). The tapcons instructions say you should be good with 1" to 1-3/4" embedment. I mounted a 58" tv (weighs 34lbs) about 10 days ago. It has a very solid hold. Pro tip- make sure you blow out/vacuum out the dust in the hole before screwing in the tapcon for better hold.
