    Could I use 1"x4" pine boards as furring strips instead?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  5 місяців тому +1

      1x material is only 3/4 inches thick. I guess you COULD use it, but you'd have to use really short drywall screws. Regular furring strips or 2x2s would be better

    I like it, but I was wondering if you should use a vapor barrier over the brick???

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  Рік тому +1

      The brick was exposed to the room prior to us covering it up. It's an interior wall. Hopefully we didn't need a vapor barrier 🤞

    I was expecting some sort of insulation under the drywall. Do I need insulation if it’s an exterior wall?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Ours being an interior wall, I figured insulation was unnecessary. If I was going to insulate it, I would have used foam boards since my space was only 1.5" (2x4s were flat on the brick). Liquid Nails would be enough to hold the boards up.
      I would say it never hurts to insulate, especially if it's an exterior wall. But also if the room is comfortable temperature before you put up drywall it may not be necessary.

    Okay I know most studs in house are spaced 16 inches on center is that what you did here

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  3 місяці тому +1

      Fairly close to 16" but we fudged it slightly wider. Normally 16" is the way to go for any framing.

      @@CityBillyAdventures thank you so much for responding doing renovations to my church. I’ve been doing construction for around 4 years I’ve never done it by myself and my brother and his wife saying that it’s to difficult for me and I don’t have the skill to do it but I’m fairly confident in my ability and your video solidified what I was going to do is right so thank you means a lot you just got yourself a subscriber in me 😂

      Awesome! I wasn't always handy either but it's not rocket science. Most stuff is just a matter of having the right tools and someone showing you how to do it once or twice. I have some handy family and friends who showed us the basics, plus UA-cam is invaluable. Then just slowly collecting the right tools for whatever project you're working on. Whether you buy/borrow/rent, having the right tool makes such a big difference. Another thing is volunteering to help friends with their projects. It's a great way to learn from people who know what they're doing and it's good practice. Good luck with your project(s)!

    would this sound proof the brick wall ?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  7 місяців тому +1

      It would probably take some insulation to sound proof it. There's nothing on the other side of the brick though, just a big chimney.

    Why didn’t you do one inch furring strips?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  Рік тому +6

      That was an option, however our brick was so uneven, I was worried the furring strips would bend to the surface of the brick and I'd have a warpy wall. I liked the added thickness of the 2x4s (depth and horizontally) to stay more rigid against the bumpy brick.
