100% agree. However, despite being Metallica's greatest back up vocalist, Newstead is Metallica's 3rd best bassist. Cliff and Dave were extremely gifted but they could only go as far as Lars's skills. I think Dave wrote the best songs on kill em all. I'm also glad they kicked him out so we could have another great band.

But his solos are not my thing. Kirk sounded 10x better in the 1st 4 albums. His solos on KEA are better (even though they are just adapted from Mustaine's version) vs Mustaine's solos on multiple demos.

It might be kinda out of topic, but I'll tell it anyway. When I discovered this video it was two days ago and my cat was still alive. And I was watching the video with him, Atlas. Then I took my bass and played Leper Messiah, he listened to me as I was playing. So I'm watching this video again, and he is not around. He had a heart attack suddenly. He was just six months old. In his last moments I wasn't there, I was in the library and studying. He must have thought of me before he died. It's sad guys but if you don't have a pet you might not understand these kind of feelings. It's relaxing to write these feelings. Life is going on.

Dave Mustaine would have never lasted in Metallica even if had hadn't been drinking. His personality is too much of a take charge, leader type that James & Lars would have kicked him out anyway.
Cliff was a leader too, a disciplinarian type to make sure the band stay in line. Lars wouldn’t get away with a lot of the shit he did if Cliff were around. As for Dave? He was too talented to just follow orders. Megadeth was his platform.

Fuck, this is the greatest version of Metallica, is just fucking perfect, if James had not been so self-centered and If he had never lost his voice, if everyone were more mature, if Dave had overcome his addiction and they had not thrown him out and Cliff would never have died, these guys would have been the best band of all time, this is Metallica at its perfect point, imagine this alignment evolving over the years, which would have swept its summit?
