the mic being dodgy in the pre-prod unit sounds fishy from Sony, specially when the biggest issue with the xm4 was the mic quality... did you have the chance to test the mic in a noisy environment?
Just got the XM5 yesterday. I found the fit of the XM4 to be very uncomfortable, they are pretty chunky but sound great.. So happy with the XM5, the fit is incredibly comfortable, sound is fantastic and the ANC is superb...
Have the same problem. Is the fit alot better on the new ones? Im contemplating buying the new ones due to the price but happy with the xm4s in sound etc but not in fit....
Love this guy's energy! Also, nice review. The XM4s were a disappointment because of their battery issues but I think I'll be willing to give Sony a chance again with '5s
@@Electrifize They're running just as good as the first day I got them. Updates are good too. And there's no overheating or weird stuff going on with them. They're my regular for gym, work and commute. 10/10!

@7ish4m my pair of XM5's just came in 3 hours ago . Been using them since . They are really AWESOME ‼️The call quality is SUPER crisp . Tried them on my Z Fold 4 & 13 Pro Max . Multipoint connection works FLAWLESSLY as well . I've been waiting for these since Sony announced they were releasing these earlier this year . Had the XM4's and as well all know , they were too bulky and didn't fit well in most people's ears . Not gonna dive into how they sound , as far as bass , mids , highs , lows , etc. but overall , these are the most well-rounded earbuds out rn , in my opinion . I've owned almost every pair of top dollar , flagship earbuds besides the B & O's , B & W's and the Airpods Pro 2's , but idc . The XM5's are the ones to buy . The Bose QC 2's are another pair I recommend for you too .
I have these earbuds, there's an annoying tone that plays with each touch to the earbuds and no option in the Sony app to disable touch notification tones. It takes dozens of taps to adjust volume up or down alot and all those tones with each tap is a deal breaker for me, I'll be returning them.
I've owned the Sony WF-1000XM4 for over two years and have enjoyed using it in various outdoor settings. However, I recently chose to upgrade to the WF-1000XM5 and was quite disappointed. It falls short compared to the WF-1000XM4, especially in windy environments where it's practically ineffective. I also feel it underperforms in noisy indoor environments. I would advise against purchasing it based on my experience.
I'm able to play my drums with these, but I find myself having to keep pushing them back inside my ear. Probably because too much of it hangs on the outside, and it tends to start to come out further with movement.
0:33 LOL we've all been there 😅 😅 😂 lost my Left Airpods Pro 2 in the toilet lost both my Samsung Pro 2 getting into a Uber but was able to recover using the Smart things tracker. left my XM4 buds in my jeans pocket went they did a full cycle in the washing machine. ran them in the dryer for 3 minutes and didn't turn them on for 3 days. still 100% functional!! Sony don't skimp on the hydrophobics. I no longer use iphones so it's Samsung or Sony. I love the fit of the Galaxy Buds 2 Pros. I actually bough a second pair on a deep discount sale for $99. Honorable mention to the Soundcore Liberty Pro 2. Those are by far the best value as far as sound quality if you don't need killer ANC and maybe the best fit of all the buds for my ear shape. Great app too. I had the Senheissers and these were a little to plasticky for me and not as warm as the Sonys Xm4.
I really liked the video! But how come you haven’t review the Bose qc earbuds 2? They are lacking in a lots of areas but have objectively the best anc.
I keep looking for a set of Bluetooth headphones that let's me quickly jump between 2 sources. Or receive audio from 2 sources at once (phone and laptop). Maybe tomorrow?
The thing that annoyed me the most about the Xm4 was the firmware updates, I mean come on my phone is right next earbuds to do the update and it always disconnected at some point, It's great that it carries on from where it last was in the update, It's just so slow, Hopefully the xm5 will be alot better In that regard, In the uk the XM5 is the same price as the XM4 was 2 years ago at £250, I feel sorry for you lovely Americans, Because that $300 doesn't incudes taxs,
hoping the batteries last longer on these. I used the previous model for about a year and now the right earphone's battery only lasts about 45mins on a full charge while the left gets me about an hr and 5mins, without active noise cancelation on.
@@piyushkashyap1888 - sorry, but that comment was meant for the OP. I would guess that your battery longevity is based on your sound battery management techniques (only charging when needed and never leaving the device on the charger). This has always been recommended for Lithium ion devices.
Hey there! Transparency mode on the WF-1000XM5 is pretty good compared to other earbuds, and the Quick Attention feature is quite handy for quick conversations. Although, I will say that the XM5's take a bit longer to enter Transparency mode, especially when compared to the AirPods Pro 2. Happy listening!
Yes, the Sony WF-1000XM5 work well on iOS devices! Also, after updating our WF-1000XM5 to firmware version 2.0.1, the microphone sounds pretty good. It does a great job of filtering out external noise, and it should do well for phone calls or Zoom meetings. We'll include a comprehensive mic sample in our ultimate review, coming soon. I had the bose qc2's and I returned them 2 days later. They were very disappointing, so much so that I bought another pair of galaxy buds. Im going too try these sonys out tomorrow tho
The ANC was nice on the Bose, but I returned them due to connection issues with my android phone. All Bose I bought had the same connection issue, except the Bose QC45's
I am using wf-xm3 and s23ultra, between bud 2 pro and xm5, which would you consider worth the upgrade. I like hearing with bright preset and not a fan of bass
Hey there! If you're looking to replace your WF-1000XM3, which earbuds you upgrade to will depend on your needs. The WF-1000XM5 has great ANC, a more comfortable/portable fit, and has a lot of great app features. Yes, the low-end may sound over-emphasized for some, but the software EQ in Sony's app can help compensate for this. On the other hand, the Samsung Buds 2 Pro is great if you don't want to spend too much cash. It also has decent ANC performance, good sound quality, and support for Samsung's Seamless Codec. Got these for 2 days and already returned. For my ears they were a lot more uncomfortable than the XM5s and none of my 15 ear tips gave me a good seal….
I'd recommend checking if there's a firmware update available for the buds. These updates do wonders fixing odd problems. If all else fails, I'd recommend contacting Sony support for further assistance. Hope this helps. Happy listening!
@@SoundGuys the update seemed to work. The only other things I can I am not a fan of is the hard plastic they used. I find it tough to grab the earbuds from the case. Maybe it's my fat fingers but I think this will be something others will ha e an issue with
I will wait for galaxy buds3 pro that will most likely have true multipoint finally. I guess next year. Nothing is worth money right now as android user afaic. I stick to my trusty wired buds. Xm5 don't not justify its price tag

Why do all American UA-cam reviewed compare all headphones against airpod pros as if they're the bench mark item like! As far as sound quality air pod pros fall way behind many other earbuds. As they do in anc.
The default touch control patters are wack. Why would you put the one action you might want to hit multiple times behind 4 taps? Should be 1 tap left volume down, 1 tap right volume up, 2 taps left ANC, 2 taps right play pause, 3 taps left previous, 3 taps right next, and 4 taps on either for quick access. Tap and hold is actually fine as well but could be switched with 2 taps functions in this case
@@topihintikka9805 Actually, once you tap four times to turn the volume up, you can keep tapping until you reach the appropriate volume level. It works the same way for volume down. It's not a perfect solution, nor is it the most intuitive way to control volume, but it's something. :P Happy listening!
IMO you should separate the term active and passive. Sony does well due to foam tips. So it should be said that Sony has the best noise reduction due to a combination of ANC and Passive with a heavy weighting due to the tips. So you can’t just switch out to silicone tips for comfort. 😊
@@DraconicA5 right, the point I’m making is they have the best noise reduction due to using foam tips. If you want silicone tips for comfort you will not get the same level of noise reduction. RTings hasn’t measured them yet but with the xm4s you could see that they heavily relied on the passive isolation of the ear tip and actually were only using ANC for low frequencies.
Trick is to just buy the earbuds and get 2 year warranty thru bestbuy for 69.99. Within 2 years new model always comes out so return under warranty when new model comes out. Then you will get your 300.00 back and buy the new model and buy warranty for 69.99. So every two years get new model for around 70 bucks. I've been doing for years and always get newest model. My sony earbuds 4 model battery drain issue towards the 2 year mark. But yeah that's the way to do it

It sounds like you keep them plugged into your charger after they’ve reached full capacity! This could degrade capacity over time!

Qc2 has better anc but xm5 is a better overall Production and better features

I very much doubt the xm5:s beat the Bose Quiet comfort II when it comes to ANC and sound quality.
I had the bose qc2's and I returned them 2 days later. They were very disappointing, so much so that I bought another pair of galaxy buds. Im going too try these sonys out tomorrow tho

A lot of bass? I returned my XM4s because they sounded extremely weak with no bass.
I am having issues when walking. I get this weird feedback like a bump noise every step I take. Really odd and I own the 4s never had this issue

More bass you say.. the xm4 i have to turn the bass up to 8 just to lose it when you crank the volume.

it's helpful for reviews to start saying codec/listening volume/anc on/off for battery numbers cause I think these can last anywhere from 4 to 9hours
And sound quality between different codecs… and where the codecs works better (Apple or Android or idk 🤷♂️)

Sony doesn't use mandatory earbud tips, so you can use anything you want. You can also recalibrate the ANC for any earbud tips you want to use.
