Hello ! thinking of buying those and thanks to your content (again) I decided to go for them :) PS: what is a case on Xperia ? like it a lot.
Still have a pair of MDR-XB950N1s from when they came out nearly 7 years ago and they are in fantastic shape and work great! Picked up some WF10000XM5s around Christmas and have been very impressed so far.

Sony XM5 works great for me esp with different ear tips. Tried a bunch but the AirFoams Pro Universal fitment is great. Can't beat Sony sound quality.

I left my xm4's on the plane from my last China trip. Didn't even think twice, went to buy them again and found out there was the new version, still love them
Another great video mate. One thing is clear (or not clear in fact) is that after watching countless review videos on the XM5, there are so many conflicting opinions. At least you took the time to test them out, so I am looking at buying a pair, based on your review. I was considering the Jabra Elite 10's, which are a good competitor to the XM5's, so I would love to see a comparison/review with theses champs.
Just go with xm5, I’ve had them for some time, and I’ve got quite a few other buds, 1 sennheiser doesn’t sound better they actually don’t they r similar honestly I think these r more detailed, the anc is still great I think people were expecting too much, it’s not a giant increase from the xm4 but if you need a good anc earbud this is the choice. Let’s be clear to me Bose sounds terrible, the ultras have weirdly high mid which is awful. The ambient mode is really ok, and that’s it just ok, the rest comfort is great and I’m ok with the controls if ur thinking about it get it. I don’t think Jabra is in the same league.
@turbod4646 I appreciate your reply, thank you. Since my comment, I did go ahead and buy a pair of MX5's, and overall I am very pleased with them. They aren't as comfortable to wear as I would like, but better than many others I have previously owned. The performance is top tier though!

I have had quite a few headphones including Sennheiser MTW3, Beoplay EQ, AirPods Pro 2, Sony WFXM4 and currently the new WF-1000XM5. The sound quality of the Sonys is without a doubt the best I have ever tasted. I'm talking about the sound they have without the need for an equalizer. Its sound is the most balanced and the most fidelity. I bought them at Silver and they are very cool haha.

I have have xm3 and 2 pair of Xm4 after a while for some reason the left ear doesn’t charge fully will only get up to about 80%. I hope these are better. Best buds on the market in my opinion.

I just bought mine yesterday and did a whole night playing music. This by far the best earbuds. I usually never like earbuds due to irritation after 2 hours of having them on my ear. My ears didn't get sore or irritate after 10 hours of listening to my music using this Sony XM5 earbud. In terms of comfort they're the best. My only dislike is the battery life is kind of short. I had to recharge after 4 hours of listening to my music at a low volume setting. It stays on firmly in the ear and feels like it's never even there. That's how comfortable this little earbud was. The ambien setting is kind of a hit and miss. I notice that it doesn't resume back to playing the music when I'm not talking to people. I had to hit the play button on my smartphone to get the music playing again.
When you shake your head do u hear a noise is that normal?

i dont think the mic quality will improve unless they go out and make another upgraded bluetooth codec for handsfree communication, ri8 now they still use SBC codec version from like the early 2000s that was used in handsfree communication( like thos business eardbud handsfree things that you can attend calls 24x7 or the one feature on your car stereo where you can attend calls)
you can see that on a windows PC when you pair a headset for example say the XM5, it will show up as 2 devices in the sound control panel, one in the playback devices and other in the recording devices. in playback devices where your other sound devices show up, in properties>advanced for the XM5 you will notice it is using 16bit 48Khz which is aptX if its setup as "prioritize audio" in the sony headphones app while in the recording tab you notice the XM5s show up as a handsfree device with a sampling rate of 16000Hz(16Khz) at 16bit which even windows states is similar to "tape recorder quality".
So until that gets upgraded across every device with a bluetooth radio, no amount of improving the built in mic or processing is going to make it better.
What about a comparison between these and Technics az60m2 and az80? Which one would you suggest? Thanks!

I had link buds but mics died quickly and I just thrown em in to bin 😂 Got airpods pro2 and they garbage, bought Sony's for my nephew and maan LDAC is really game changer, well even headphones which I have from Beo play sounds different and better on his Android phone than on my shitphone 14 pro 😂 I swear that big talk about ecosystem and Apple praising fanboys is just too much.

because I just need to hang on my ear not jam in my ear. Is super uncomfortable and hurt my ear and get itch in about 5 minutes even I clean my ear. so even I am using pc, I still use airpod.
Hi, I’m from WA State USA. Thanks for a great usability review. I have an issue that you didn’t address (probably because you didn’t have the issue). Ever since updating the firmware to 2.0.1, my XM5s secretly connect to my iPhone (15 Pro Max). It’s happened about 4 times. It starts late at night and through the morning when I discover the headset icon on upper right corner of Home Screen. Then I get a notification from the Sony app that your case needs recharging. Is there a way to disable this? I’m thinking once your buds are in the case they should be off…period. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Just got JLab epic lab edition. My first high end wireless earbuds and I like them a lot so far. Maybe in a couple years I’ll get the newest Sony ones.
Thank you I bought them for my wife, she is very happy and now she is not using the headset anymore and using these earbuds every day on phone and laptop together.
I bought the SonyWF 1000xm5, I tried to like it, I gave it a week and i just couldn’t, i came from the AirPods Pro’s and AirPod pro’s second gen, and the fit with AirPods for me just were so much better. I saw myself constantly trying to adjust the Sony’s and switching the tips, and it was ultimately uncomfortable and it hurt my ears in general. I just bought the Song WH 1000x5 and they have been UNBELIBABLLY GOOD

Can you please review the Jlab Epic Edition? I feel these are going to blow a lot of premium competitors out of the water. I used own the xm5 earbuds but decided to return them for the Jabra Elite 10 because I wanted ones that have a high ip rating once I saw the ip rating on the Elite 10 and that the case has an extremely high rating I was completely sold. I will say that during my time with the xm5s that they are amazing overall and they look amazing. The spatial audio on the Elite works very well and I don't feel is gimmicky and is compatible with any music and streaming service and I have trulu enjoyed them.
I still use my SRS-X77. It's a gorgeous speaker with all the features I like in portable audio (I used the NFC function all the time) and sadly it no longer works without a charger plugged in. It's basically permanently attached to my girlfriend's computer now, but I doubt I'll ever find another one in good condition.

I have a very very old JBL Extreme that is the same way :) I think I may have accelerated the battery damage when I lost the charger for it and started using an old laptop charger instead 😬 It was a bit too loud for what I was using it for outside the house anyway, which was carrying it on my back while I rode my bike 😂

Ive had them for 1 month and i think they're okay the sound quality is good but the bass doesn't have any depth unless the ANC is switched on

I want these but from the last model I heard Sony ruined the battery with an update to many users and I somehow feel like they’d do that to these once XM6 come out 😅
You can always downgrade, but overall I find this hard to believe. Could they ruin the battery backup? Yes. On purpose? I don't think so. This is a poor practice since people would stop buying their products in general, not just one particular product.
Yeah they ruined it, but not on purpose. You're actually able to RMA the xm4's even past warranty and get it fixed or even a new pair.
@@tommyjongen can you shared some instruction to get RMA? I have xm4 and it is way way past the warranty period....
The xm4 had battery issues bc they used xm3 batteries left over to use up stock and a firmware update burned then down. Has been fixed in 5s
@@PetiePal It's not just XM4s. I had LinkBuds S earbuds and a firmware update gave them the same "one bud drains super quick, other's okayish" disease.
It would have been nice if they implemented the proximity controls of the Sony Open Ear LinkBuds
In your time of review, do you happen to face any issue with glitchy/stuttering connection? Like it sounds like it keep dropping or the sound will go from left to right.
I always have this experience when i am on the subway or in crowded area. Not sure if it is just my pair that has this issue or Sony all along have this connection issue concern?
And if yes, do you know if there are any possible solution to this?

that's a lot of places you went but Sony is from Japan and that buds were produced in China and those two countries weren't on your list of travel so your review doesn't count.

If you were to compare the fit and the sturdiness of the Jabra Elite 10, Jabra Elite 8 Active, Techniz AZ80 and Xm5 and Bose QC Ultra which would you choose?
Jabra Elite 8 Active, great fit and practically water and dust proof.
Good job but the ambient mode isn't that great..
Also for mic quality try the Freebuds Pro 3..
My xm5s return are on the way. I got the jabra elite 10s which didn't blow me away like the elite 85t did and I wanted LDAC too
I was toying with jabra 10 and xm5 in the end went for sonys.. Hope I made right decision!

just bought xm5 and first thing happened at the gym was continously turning off. I had to close app. Then it stoped and it was great. What option in app could cause that problem? I would rather use app than turn it off every time I workout.
In the app there's a "Speak-to-Chat" feature that turns off the audio/pauses music when it detects voice. It can be convenient but at the gym any noise from others or heavy breathing from me will activate it which is annoying. I just turn that off.
Technics az80 next please!
Ps. That samsung s23 ultra is a weapon, literally! My mrs dropped hers on my head whilst i was asleep and can confirm, they really hurt 😅

How are the foam tips for you? I have the XM4s and ordered the XM5s, will get them on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. For the XM4s I got Silicone tips because the foam tips hurt so bad after one hour
Get the spinfit ear cups. If sony bought that company and applied those earcups to all their buds, it would be gameover!
Tried a few different premium earbuds including the Sony. I liked the sound quality but I have to say I didn't find it to be markedly better than the Sennheiser Momentum 3s or the Technics AZ80s. In fact, to my ear, the AZ80s were better but that kind of thing is very personal so your milage may vary. The Sony definitely has noise cancellation nailed very well but the foam plugs are a big part of this. I had to use the largest tips to get the max control and I found them less comfortable over long periods of listening. Three things I really do not like about the Sonys are the shape... it feels like a polished river stone. I find it hard to orient it into my ear and the case because the shape is so irregular. This also affected my ability to hit the controls in the correct place to activate. I also do no like the controls particularly the quad tap--very fiddly. Lastly, and I know a lot won't be bothered by this, you have to have the box to pair them. If you carry the box around a lot, this won't be an issue, but I rarely carry the box and when I'm in a hotel gym or my gym in another city, I often pair with equipment and TVs. Needing the case has prevented me from pairing several times. Speak-to-chat is cool but I find it turns things off when I want them on or on when I want them off about half the time. Like if you cough your music pauses and the exterior sound is amplified. If someone talks to you, it does not pause... you have to be the one talking. So all in all I'd say these are a bit too gimmicky for my taste and the advantages don't outweigh what I find annoying.

I need one for travel, office, cafe work, gaming and movies, and the gym all in one. Hard to find that.
I had them 2 days b4 the tips started to crack. I have orderd new silicone tips to try them out.
I have also been using the xm5 earbuds for 2 months and I absolutely love them, for me they are the almost the perfect gym buds in my opinion. However there are a few issues I have with them, with number one being the unstable connection I have with the buds, specifically when I'm listening to music, when all of the sudden, one of my left or right ear bud disconnects and the touch surface doesn't work. I believe this might be a software error but I could be wrong. I have also switched my priority controls between prioritizing sound quality and/or preferring good connection with the error being noticeable in both settings. The second thing Issue I have is having to quadruple touch to increase/decrease the volume, whereas the galaxy buds 2 pro has a more simplistic way of volume control, aka the touch to hold to increase/decrease volume. The third issue I have, which is more of a nitpick than an actual issue is very rarely having to re-adjust my earbuds for optimal noise cancellation and sound quality. Other than these issues I have, these buds sound phenomenal and are my top choice of gym buds. The microphone quality is good, I have no issues or complaints for mic quality. I'm not looking for the best microphone quality of ear buds or headphones. The ambient noise is great, same thing, I have no complaints.
Although I don't own these yet, I'd hope that they'll add a feature to customize the way you can control the volume. Seems to be one of the more common complaints so far.
Yeah, agree. I think maybe a gym wing tip could be good & swipe volume control would be good.
I experienced a little glitch like the one you mentioned once. I just put it back in the case and took it out again and it fixed it.

I wasn't thrown out of Sony...I was thrown out of Harrods. The Harrods managers got mad because I drew a floor plan of all the areas where we had no Sony stock...
And to get my point across.
I also drew a comic book style tortoise and a snail. With the them dragging the Sony stock to Harrods. And the snail saying to the tortoise..."what's taking you so long?"

Loving the 1000X series since the original through M5 models.
How is overall "loudness"? I used to have a pair of Shure SE535s and they were amazing. The quality of sound was awesome and the loudness was great. In fact, I would find that i did not need to turn the volume up to the max to get the loudest sound. Sadly, I left my SE535s on a plane and now i'm looking for a replacement. I have tried AirPod Pros and they are nice but do not get loud enough for me when traveling on flights.
How are the Sony's?
They are ridiculously loud particularly if you are using a high def audio streaming service like Amazon music. Using with my samsung galaxy s21 ultra I don't need the volume higher than around 60% of full volume. Remember it's dangerous to listen to music at too higher volume. You don't want tinnitus.
I only care about the sound quality. Beoplay EX, Momemtum TWS 3 or those Sony's?
The one thing I wish the XM5s had was a texture to the outside. They are super hard to get out of the case.
I heard many saying the same. In my case, I haven’t had any issues but found that pulling to the side is easier because it gets unstuck from the magnet first. Example: Pull the right end of the left earbud to the left, pull the left side of the right earbud to the right. Maybe it will work for you.
I come across a Sony website where they show images on how to wear them properly. They show an image suggesting that what I write before is the way they designed them to take them out of the case: pulling to the sides.
Has anyone had success finding different tips? I can’t get a good seal for noise cancellation despite trying all the sizes. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.
I really want to get the xm5 but I have the xm4's and contrary to what you've said about sony products, they did not last. The ones I have are actually my second set that Sony exchanged for me because the first pair battery life was ruined. Now the ones I have now are doing same and one side only last about an hour on full charge. And then just a couple days ago, I shit you not one side stopped working entirely. So I'm in the market and want to trust the xm5 but gonna wait till they hit the year mark to see how they have faired. Might even just wait till next gen comes out.
Friends, I bought Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3, but it went to the service twice and they sent a new one, but I had a problem with that too and the last money was refunded. Now, the model I am wondering about is the Sony WF-1000XM5 ANC TWS Headset, but unfortunately it is not sold in Turkey and if I buy it from abroad, there will be a service problem. I will live, club house..electro house..rock..I listen to all kinds of music...I need to feel the instrument, sound quality and phone calls are important to me and right now I am left without headphones and senneiser momentum 4 is about to be announced!!!samsun buds 3 is about to be released. ..so what should we do???

I'm using LinkBuds S as they're the smallest Hi-Res audio earphones with the noise cancelling. Dunno how much bigger the Mark 5 is
I have them both and honestly prefer my linkbuds s. The issue I’m having is finding ear tips to get a more secure fit for the xm5.

Had em for 3 months left ear bud stopped working could turn on n off nc but no sound.. reset em re paired em to 3 phones nothing had to get a replacement
I still have a working Walkman (1985) that looks and works as new, I still have the Sony Ericsson W800i that looks and works as new ... I have so many Sony at home and they all still work and look as new... one thing I disagree .. I use NFC all the time with my headphones. (Sony WH-1000XM3)

A possible reason for your lower score previous on sound using an Apple device and people calling it out is Apple products use AAC as max bit rate codec whereas latest Android devices are compatible with LDAC. Had you used an external Bluetooth DAC you would have recreates the same environment on your iPhone or Mac

What helped me was. disable, so called C-State in bios. and Make sure u don't have ground loops in your setup. and consider DI-BOX! Glad if it helps.

I'm going to have to do a little comparison to give you an honest answer. I think the Sony's with the headphones app have an edge in software especially with the adaptive ANC Features.
I have the model before this, the Sony XM 4. I used them for about 1-3 hours per week for just over two years. Then suddenly last month they started draining from full power to zero in about 30 minutes!
I contacted Sony and they weren’t interested other than giving me their out of warranty rates, which were ridiculous. I expected more for my £200

Had them for 2 weeks and liked some stuff a lot but when I tried them for running, I could not use them in transparency mode cause of the wind noises.. no comparison to the AirPods which handles it nearly perfectly in transparency mode.. Someone else explored the same issue with the Sony?

XM4 ANC on airplanes is laughably poor, have they fixed this then on xm5...🤷♂️ they are also very uncomfortable even after just an hour. Finally, battery life issues on XM3, now on XM4...when will we be seeing reports about XM5 also deteriorating...?

Yeah, got the same issue with the Sony ear tips. Really irritating, using smaller tips avoided it but get more noise leakage. Had to put some Comply tips on to get rid of it.

Been running these for a month, fit sn't great they work their way out and have to adjust alot.
They connect to my phone while in the case. Mustnt be seated correctly in there.
Volume adjust is very annoying and can't be change as far as I can see.
Case lid doesn't line up with the rest of the case and flexes doesn't feel quality or precise for the money. Overall wouldn't bother for the money.
Ive had the xm3 and 4 and want the 5 fhe 3#ls ankle had Great sound were meh. Fit was ass. Had to get third party tips. The 4s much better fit for me.
Purchased these today and was very disappointed. Will be returning tomorrow. Number one issue is that at max volume these headphones suck..too low for me. Definitely not a fan
Sent mine back to Sony, I found the NC very disappointing. They did a reset and firmware upgrade, something I had already done and said they are working fine. Tested them today against my Bose Ultra and Jabra elite 10. I used the shower extraction fan as background noise. The Bose almost totally cancelled the background noise, the Jabra did a pretty good job and the Sonys hardly any effect. They proved to be next useless on a plane. To be fair, Sony after I contacted them again got back to me and suggested I try a number of other exercises and to get back if these failed. Anyone else think the noise cancelling is sub par?

In my opinion no. I got xm5 because xm4 had battery issue. But if I had a choice I would keep xm4 I found them better

Love Sony sound but just bought Galaxy buds 2 pro after looking around. I've had too much problem with xm4 and hate the way Sony does not take ownership. Cannot be trusted. Doesn't build quality include batteries and firmware updates? Seems like many xm5 inherited the same battery drain issues. Might pick up the Bose QC ii during black Friday if Samsung doesn't work out sonically
