get it on steam or ps4! I have it on PC and I love it! especially since in the heat of combat time doesn't stop so you if your in a bad spot you have a few seconds to react before you die
Only played VC2 and 3 with an English mechanics patch. The gameplay revolved around taking calculated risks when choosing squad members, taking into account their role and equipment. Careful planning in how you're going to accomplish the mission. Tactical positioning, placing your squad members in the most advantageous position not only for themselves but for the team as a whole. Map knowledge, knowing shortcuts, enemy camps, where the enemy is positioned, etc. Basically, a very good _strategy game._ Saw this video for the new game, and I have to say. Weightless, mindless hack and slash combat that isn't even satisfying and even if you were, it got old *fast.* Very much like how I felt with any and *every* dynasty warriors game.
I guess you realize it after you've bought it. Good job, you tricked me by putting Valkyria on the box making me think it was the sequel to a turn-based war game.🙄
One of the worst things JRPGs do (and countless of them do this) is the dialogue problem he discusses, where EVERY character talks in turn in circular dialogue that goes absolutely nowhere. I always wonder why Japanese developers are so obsessed with filling every scene with endless talking.
This is probably the last nail in the coffin of the Valkyria series...Man seriously why the fuck does sega have to fuck up all their good IPs and then just fucking do ANOTHER SHITTY sonic game..

As a Valkyria Chronicles fan, when I saw there was a new Valkyria Chronicles game, I was so excited for a reboot..... Then I saw that it was an ARPG. That tilted me off the face of the Earth, it was basically around the same rage a fan of Metroid had for Federation Force, America hadn't gotten an official release of the VC games since they released it on PC, which was just the first one, and the first one they released basically stuck up a middle finger for the people who liked the original gameplay? That made me irreversibly hate this game, to the point that I don't even want to look at it anymore.
I'd heard a lot of good stuff about VC and became interested in the characters after playing as some of them in Project X Zone. I was hoping this was going to be good but from the looks of things, it doesn't look that way. From your comment, I'm guessing the originals were a lot better, right?
And at least with Federation Force Nintendo had the budget to take such a (dumb) decision. I don't think the Valkyria games have made nearly enough to risk things and try something the fans don't want. Maybe this game will be the "Atelier Iris" of the Valkyria games...
I havn't got any experience in the other Valkyria games, but do enjoy the game. I agree with most (if not all) the negative points here; but for my opinion this review is a bit harsh. On the action gauge, it's supposed to make combat slower / want to force you to be a bit more carefull at the start of battles. When the enemy has more force the action gauge will recharge slower. Once the battle get's some momentum; either by slaughtering the enemy fast (rocket launcher / grenades / magic / ... ) the odds of winning will increase; and as a bonus effect the action gauge will speed up. If you pay attention to it, for me it helps to make the game more immersive. All in all a good review :)
I read that the Japanese community received this title with quite some negative feedback. I don't know why you should completely change the gameplay from nice tactical turn based to real-time action, even though this is a spinoff. People been craving for a new Valkyria chronicles since VC2 and VC3 came out only on PSP (Which was a stupid move and VC3 never got localized). So for the majority of people, they played only the 1st on PS3/PC.
tan Jjin I'd love to play a remastered console/PC version of part two and three. as for reveloution, I'm just glad it's a spin-off. sadly I can hear Sega saying some bs like "reveloution's poor sales=fans no want chronicles 2&3 remastered"
Ngl, I love this game, strategic gameplay while playing a hack and slash, fantastic music, pretty good story, and good character development. I think this was a good direction for what could be a great series if some things were tweeked. I agree with the story being split between to view points all the time is a horrible idea. I hate going back to the granddaughter and student, seems irrelevant and waste time. The second thing is just how slow the game is at some points. Dialogue is pretty slow, cutscenes are way to long at some points, the run is slow in non battle areas, and the grind is atrocious for not having extra content like in the original. But I hope Sega makes another with the major fixes in the game.
You know I didn't like it at first but the more I play the more I like it yes they have way to many cut scenes but that just makes more to the story and the only thing I dislike in the game is the way a few people talk like the princess is awful but apart from that I just don't think people want to accept this game since the Valkyrie Chronicles was such an amazing series
I love Valkyria Chronicles to the point that im considering getting a tattoo of the first game, but when i first heard about this game it made my heart sank. The original game is amazing and tells the story fluidly and meshes with the gameplay nicely, I see no reason to revamp the brand into what I feel, in my own opinion, is a worse combat system that is never really meant to contain much story.
Bought it on Black Friday's sale, only at 16.99€ and it is worth it, in my opinion. The ATB was hateful in the beginning, until I got those useful Haste-spells which made the battles much more enjoyable. The story was what I feared most, but luckily enough even with the long scenes, the writing is pretty good and this is what matters the most to me in a JRPG.
I like it. I enjoy the long anime-ish cutscene. The story is not great, but it passes the sniff test. Sega is not really known for its storytelling, but the Valkyria world building is pretty amazing.
Saved some money here since Amazon is somehow "out of stock" so I didn't get a chance to make a purchase. I appreciate the honest comments from a reviewer whose tastes conform to mine and whose thoughtfulness I respect.
i love the story tho. many details seemed so real, not pretentious nor fairytale-ish. the devil side also have very rish characters, like Maxim did not slain Emperor when he determined to quit, like Emperor spare his life when Maxim turned his back to him. This is a rare game of very detailed depiction of wartime , albeit the gameplay, specially that Gilouche Boss fight 1 HP bug drove me crazy, this game worth my 13 euro. if you do like story and music, this is a nice experience. if you don't own it, then forget about it.
All they had to do was keep the same game they made the first time and improve on it, the characters were already loved and well written, the story was pretty solid, and the gameplay, improvement and squad customization systems were great. Add some new weapons, solider/vehicle types, graphical improvements here and there, maybe sprinkle in a few new mission types and little systems while staying true to the original gameplay, write a compelling war story with a compelling cast (which we all know they can do) and you've got what shouldve been VC 2- 4. Valkaria Chronicles could've been THE strategy game with the potiential to over take the Fire Emblem series but no, like most other properties involved with Sega somebody fucked up what should've been a very simple formula.
When this was announced, I thought we were getting a new follow-up to Valkyria Chronicles on console. Discovered some game play footage and was extremely disappointed. It's not even in the same genre! Good Turn-Based Strategies are so rare nowadays.
Its not a perfect game but its not as bad as everyone tells u. Try 4 urself as with many things in life. Its ok/good and cheap now thanks to the haters.
from semi-realistic WW2 with rifles and SMGs contrasting really well with the anti-tank rocket lances and the magic valkyrur lance to a bunch of PSP why-the-fucks i didnt play and wont comment on but why the hell did 2 shift to a high school environment and why does 3 have a massive fuckoff gun-sword(?) to...whatever this is, the new series for sega to sonic-fuck-up.
the reason to it shifting to a military academy setting makes sense, since in 2 gallia was in a civil war state and in that universe, the military wont do jack in internal conflicts so they send the military academy students also in 3 the chick with the lancer sword custom made it which means it isnt even standard military grade, dont shit your pants. also its timeline is simultaneous with 1 so yeah
Right, yes, first of all, not involving *the military* in a civil war for any reason is a plot contrivance. And literally any other semi-military force would be infinitely preferable to a collection of *children* still learning the ropes. Say, oh i don't know, pulling a random word out of the hat here, *the militia!?* The famous war hero of EWII and his wife who's a *FUCKING GODDESS OF WAR!?* As for the gun-sword, I'll actually look into it a bit more and get back to you.
Im back from VC3's wikia and maaaan is the Var(the apparent name of the massive fuckoff gunsword) the stupidest thing in Valkyria Chronicles. It is essentially a multi-weapon that transforms into a machine-gun, a sniper rifle and an anti-tank gun, as well as a good old massive fuckoff sword. And we're talking about a period of time when the Edelweiss was a luxury to the Gallians! In addition to the pure stupidity of the idea of of a small, neutral and pacifist nation having a penal black-ops team with the freedom to arm themselves with weapons not even its own military has access to(and by the way, "penal" basically means this particular military branch is composed of criminals for the most part. Yeah. ), the idea of such technology even existing in this point in time is completely idiotic! Not to mention that the only people to wield weapons of equal or even greater size are: 1. Lancers, whose weapons are anti-tank rocket launchers without the components or ammunition for 2 other weapons in addition to a massive sword, and mostly have a background in bodybuilding in order to be able to lug around their launcher and 4 warheads at any one time in addition to their armor! 2. Valkyrur, who all use some mystical control of Ragnite to be able to heft their lance and shield. Also the prince from VC1, who used massive energy cells mounted into a super-heavy tank to imbue himself with power equal to that of a valkyrur. I dont care how much that scrawny little darcssn girl wants revenge, she is NOT hauling that massive pile of metal around the place without putting it in the back of a truck.
I like how all the comments are complain it's not the same gameplay style as VC1 or 2 even though there's a dev interview on the official Playstation Blog (at least the European one anyway as that's the one I go to) where they state that Valkyria Revolution is intended as a seperate sub-franchise in the Valkyria franchise, i.e. Valkyria is the brand, Valkyria Chronicles is the turn-based tactics games and Valkyria Revolution is different from that. Think of it like the Tom Clancy games which has the Tom Clancy brand name and sub-franchises like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. That doesn't mean I'm saying this game is good, but just that people seem to be comparing apples or oranges on the basis they both have the same fruit producer's sticker on them.
I've absolutely no idea why sega localized it when it went beyond tanked in Japan, I suppose they already started the localization process before it went dead on arrival. Shame they didn't get raita to do the arts again.
No, they're supposed to pay homage to the original material, or add something interesting to the table. This just looks like water down Dynasty Warriors with little to no depth or proper game design, certainly not compared to the original game.
I only paid $13 for it new off of Amazon. Just waiting for it in the mail now. Even if it's bad I only paid a few dollars for it, so I can't complain too much. I almost bought it on release day. Glad I held out.
I hope you'll do one of these when the new Ys game comes out. It's been so long since the last one that I'm afraid that theyve changed the gameplay like what happened with this. =/
I'm really enjoying this game with like 5/6-ish + hours into it. First title in the series I've played and the world and characters seem interesting. However I'll say these are valid complaints about the game that could have been improved on. 10/10 Solid and fair review.
I just found out about this game a while ago. I was excited at first, but then I saw the gameplay and the comments the followed. I guess we won't see a decent Valkyria Chronicles game for a *long* time.
IIRC this was supposed to be a straight up musou game, but people freaked out that a Valkyria game wasn't going to have any strategy elements and this ended up being the result.
Got mine! First day impressions, for 40$ with pin and soundtrack is really cool. The 5 second load times are one thing, but they're at least 5 seconds about 5 times per EVERY cinematic, like it needs to reload everything just to pan the camera to another character (which explains why characters talk off screen a lot). I usually don't mind long loading as I'll just screw with my phone, but they're short enough to prevent that, long and often enough to be annoying. Maybe a ps4 pro and/or a SSD installed would alleviate it a bit. The battle system is pretty fun so far, I liked it. Definitely the strength of the game. I like taking cover, barking orders then rushing in exploiting weaknesses. True it doesn't seem they immediately or accurately follow your orders, orders are given like Tales games, but as I can tell no way to adjust the AI scripts or control other characters. I like the cast so far and am intrigued as to the whys of the revenge story and see myself finishing it. I've heard worse voice acting, and I like the art style. Some backgrounds have that painted on canvas look and graphically it's very pleasant. For 40$ I'd recommend it so far, can't give it a score yet.
I agree, so far it's great and definitely worth the $40. I don't understand people. It's a spin off for crying out loud. I actually hope they make more spin offs like this. I like both this and Chronicles. I'm a versatile gamer so, I'm pretty good at a lot. No hate for the game from my end. At this point I think most people now are following others because, it's cool to hate Revolution lol. Guess I'm different from the crowd.
ironscorpio dont under stand the crazy amounts of hate people are too spoiled by open world games. Loading screens are just a mild inconvenience not game breaking. Its also just a spinoff like you guys said. Heavy exposition kinda comes with the territory and the game play shown is within the first hour so I dont believe them for a second. I don't mind if you openly say first impressions but to judge a game that quickly.
Tales and final fantasy uses a similiar battle system its not really dynasty warrior. Also real time strategy is kinda a hard genre to cater to its easier for the company to emulate othe jrpg brands
How did they jump from turn based/real time strategy to hack and slash? That's pretty much as different 2 genres can possibly be. Dynasty warrior is the antithesis of a strategy game.
Good thing I didn't buy. Remember how the producer said something like they wouldn't make another console game until they had new idea? Here's five awesome ideas for a better Valkyria Chronicles, using the old command point style we love: 1. Sea battles (And you can board enemy ships) 2. Special abilities (that happen when you want, not randomly. "Don't double attack now, Vyse, he's already dead!") 3. A campaign map--allowing freedom of movement and a choice in where your next battle is (as in a choice of attacking the enemy from the north or the south) 4. Airplanes and airships for air superiority battles 5. Multiple endings (with a serious story--not more fanservice bullshit) Never mind that--they should probably just make another one about highschool and talking about bust measurements.
Played the living HELL out of the 1st Valkyria Chronicles. 2nd one I never played because they went from console to handheld. And now they come back to consoles but the battle system isn't the same... They just can't let good things stay as is...
Pretty sad since I was excited for this, but the gameplay does look a little tiresome. I really really love TRPGs, so I think I'll pass on this. Maybe until the price goes way down. I mean, visually the game is quite stunning, but I totally agree, I'd rather play the actual game than have the battle interrupted 7 different times mid-fight. Uugghh. Need for games like Valkyria Chronicles.
I really wish that they would remaster and localize Valkyria Chronicles 3 instead of making this... I played a fan-translation a couple years ago, and I can only imagine what a professionally translated version of that game with modern graphics would be like. That might just be the best game in the series!
Am I the only one enjoying it? It's like playing a very detailed anime, I believe you play the game more for the story rather than the gameplay. Could've been better? Yes. Trash? Not at all. It's just uniquely decent...
ill just wait till the price goes down on it first. i would just say fuckit and buy it, but i just blew a bunch of money on the damn steam summer sale xD
The game is retarded. The gameplay sucks, the characters don't fit in with the setting, and for god sakes the fuckers are running around with medieval weapons in an age where firearms, walker-tanks and metal gears exist.
I think the worse crime here was there was barely any peep from the games localization after it's announcement. I just heard it's coming out this month recently and barely in the past few months.
Honestly, they can keep it. I wouldn't want to play this if it was a perfect port with 4k resolution and free DLC integrated into a lowered launch price. They have killed Valkyria Chronicles, buried it's corpse and danced on it's grave. The first one was great and they should have kept improving on it's concept every new iteration. Instead they made the dumb decision, changed the platform to mobile following the japanese mobile gaming craze, ended up breaking the gameplay into sectioned map parts due it. And now they decided to not only abandon the original platform (console), but also the concept. This series is dead. RIP.
Why do you even care? The game sucks. If you want a good Valkyria game, get Chronicles which is on PC. Seriously, do PC gamers think that bringing mediocre console games to PC will do any better?
Not seeing that there aren't significant problems with the game, but... Point 1: This is not a Dynasty Warriors style game, except in that it is an action-adventure game that involves capturing bases. The mobs are much smaller, the melee is a lot more basic, and the action palette makes for a completely different flow of combat even if you disregard the former. Strike Warriors, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, Senran Kagura, Berserk and the Band if the Hawk and Fate/Extella are Dynasty Warriors style games. Kingdom Hearts is a lot closer to a Dynasty Warriors game than this is, honestly. Valkyria Revolution is a lot closer to a cut rate Mass Effect, in that you run around battlefields with a small group of allies and attack small squads of enemies in sections with chest high walls and rating an action when to select weapons, "magic", and party actions. Or maybe a variation on something like Horizon's or Zelda's camp missions. Point 2: Regarding the idea that the story doesn't get more complicated than "War is Evil" kinda ignored the fact that a wide variety of people, including the stereotypical all-loving princess spend much of the game advocating for war as staining their hands with blood was preferable to letting themselves be starved until they become too weak to protect themselves, or that the framing device is that the war in question, while started by The 5 Traitors, was also known as "The Liberation War" and freed several nations from an oppressive regime. It also goes into detail about how going to war reinvigorated the national morale by giving hope to a populace whose Spirit has been crushed by economic sanctions and blockades, without even taking into consideration the technological and economic advances caused by a war economy.
Dynasty Warrior game wtf happen to this series. It was a tactical rpg last time i checked, and my god what happened to the awesome artstyle of the first game? looks liike shit..Yea i pass on this
Adam Shalashaska it was suppose to be a spin-off apparently, which is why it is called Revolution instead of Chronicles, still doesn't save it from being bad though, still probably better than Valkyria 2 (God I hate Valkyria 2)
You did not even finish the game as you say during the video. You complain about cut scenes suggesting they should be played while playing the missions :'). Do you actually know how the story is delivered in a jrgp? By the way, as I recall the previous games were exactly the same. Tons of scenes in between one or two battles per chapter. Nice review really. You have 3+ milion subs. What is the purpuse of making a rant review only to be part of the "this game is shit, it's not like the first game" fashion ? This game is not perfect but it doesn't deserve all the hate that the community is giving to it. The truth is that nowaday a developer can't try something new because the people complain about everything because it's cool to do it.
I'm a huge valkyria chronicles fan and was considering picking this up. After seeing some of the gameplay and hearing some of the cons, I will probably pass (or at least wait). Thanks for the heads up falcon :D
Why was this game literally not advertised at all? I honestly haven't heard anything about it, which is strange because I keep up with a lot of videogame news outlets.
This is so typical of Japanese games. One exposition heavy dump after another. It's the same in anime. Exposition dump , exposition dump and exposition dump. It's as if most of those creators can't tell a story without it even if the story is bare bones , they fill it with meaningless stupid and EXTREMELY melodramatic dialogue.
Funny thing is, the previous games to this one was pretty ok story wise. About the exposition dump i think is something cultural at this point, they even do it with real life actors movies, the creator of Nier Yoko Taro once talked about this and said that it was in purpose, and in general i have seen this a lot in japanese media, the modern one at least, they're willing to sacrifice standard rules of writing in post of forcing emotional reactions from the player and/or audience (this is one of the reason as to why characters always shout the names of their attacks before doing them)
I was really let down by this game, the original is an amazing game. I played this game for 3 hours and after 2 hours I was so over it, I grinded another hour hoping for it to get better but it didn't.
wow this is probably one of the most negative reviews I've ever seen gameranx do. Nice one!
It's on point, though. Look at that gameplay. My god. Why Sega WHY WHY WHY?! Why do you hate commercial success? Why do you hate money?
Dan ikr they're hardly ever negative
Dan yeah jake (who does most of the reviews) seems line he's trying to hard not to be overly negative sometimes
It hurts my heart what Sega did to the Valkria series smh
I’m happy they told me the truth about this game, love the honesty.
This looks like the Metal Gear Survive of the Valkyria Chronicles series.
Haha yup
"This looks like something out of a bad dream."
"this game loads more then a forklift in a warehouse" having worked in a warehouse this was funny.
UA-camLovin 737 also made me think of Shenmue. lol
Valkyria Revolution: Before You Buy
*JUST. DON'T.*
It just doesn't capture the feeling of the first valkyria chronicles.
The feeling when you get to that difficulty spike (the fucking tank) then you toss the disc out the window. Priceless.
or when RNG screws over your shot at a bosses weak point.
Dude go back to playing Gal Gun and humping your body pillows.
Charlie L. wut
Maybe because it is not called Valkyria Chronicles and the game cover of VR does not even mention it!!!!!
I loved Valkyria Chronicles sooooo much! Really reminded me a lot of the classic Jagged Alliance series. It's a great shame that this game couldn't deliver on the same level as Chronicles did.
try psp parts of the game, they are amazing
if you're new to the Valkyria series, spend your money on Valkyria Chronicles instead of this. It's got a PC release on steam, and is literally half the price for an infinitely better experience
I had never heard about this game before this rewiew
Crash Schwarzenegger it's a niche title
Crash Schwarzenegger it's a spin off from the Valkyrie Chronicles Series, shame if this game sells bad because the series been on ice for a while
Just need a new Valkyrie Chronicles Game ! The first one was Amazing.
Handsome Qupor yeah playing through it right now so fun
Crash Schwarzenegger 😂That's a bad sign for the marketing team
It's a shame the gameplay isn't up to par with how the game looks. We appreciate the info!
Dont buy this, buy the original Valkyria Chronicles instead. the developers add so much stupid crap in revolution cause they want to try something new, when the original Valkyria Chronicles was prefect the way it was.
ThatAsianGuyYouKnow My exact sentiment in my own comment. 1st game was Godly and very tactical/strategic. Now it's just disappointing...
ThatAsianGuyYouKnow i jus wish you could skip an enemy's turn
get it on steam or ps4! I have it on PC and I love it! especially since in the heat of combat time doesn't stop so you if your in a bad spot you have a few seconds to react before you die
+kyle wolman
that would literally spell failure on any mission where enemies move in and out of sight lines
True. Valkyria Chronicles was really good game. The remastered version is only like 20 bucks now.
takes place in an alternate reality, it's not supposed to be a sequel. it's like comparing mario kart to mario 64
Saw this video for the new game, and I have to say.
Weightless, mindless hack and slash combat that isn't even satisfying and even if you were, it got old *fast.* Very much like how I felt with any and *every* dynasty warriors game.
y'all gotta realize that revolution is a spin-off game in the series, not a sequel to chronicles
That would all well and good if the game was as good as Chronicles.
Phoenix Wright ugh...TLOU?
It's even worse when the story is mediocre to terrible as well.
Phoenix Wright it's not like you can't skip them....
Phoenix Wright Persona also has this issue but at least the dialogue is extremely engaging
and yet even worse when the characters are shitty.
I just found this game for 4.99 on Xbox One, might as well give it a shot. Doesn't look amazing but it looks fun enough.
I absolutely love the story, characters (expect for Helena), and its soundtrack.
This is probably the last nail in the coffin of the Valkyria series...Man seriously why the fuck does sega have to fuck up all their good IPs and then just fucking do ANOTHER SHITTY sonic game..
Maybe they have some major case of anxiety. Whenever they do well they start to shake all over.
They barely do well if ever !!! lol
badro kasmi sega is shit
You say that, but Yakuza's doing better than it's ever been.
Yakuza is just one of the few series that Sega didn't fuck up just because it sells pachinko machines in japan.
-Me: What are you watching?
-Friend: A new Valkiria game.
-Me:...
-Friend: Hey! Are you alright?
-Me: (sounds of gunfire in my mind)
-Friend: Man, say something.
-Me: never leave your base alone.
-Friend: What?
-Me: NEVER IN YOUR FUCKING LIFE LEAVE THE MAIN BASE ALONE!!!
As a Valkyria Chronicles fan, when I saw there was a new Valkyria Chronicles game, I was so excited for a reboot..... Then I saw that it was an ARPG. Ravemaster620 The first one was pretty good, the second one was pretty terrible, the third I didn't play, but I heard was pretty good.
I've been meaning to get into the Atelier series, was Atelier Iris really that bad?
+TheHighTree Thanks for that.👍
I havn't got any experience in the other Valkyria games, but do enjoy the game.
All in all a good review :)
so nothing like Valkyria Chronicles.
Welp, guess it saves me some money.
I just clicked on it because it said "Posted 12 seconds ago"
same
David Holder I did bc it said 6
David Holder i Just clicked it because it said 12 houres ago
David Holder i just clicked because it said "Posted 12 hours ago"
Why?
I was in 2 minutes before I realized this is "Before you buy" with falcon instead of Jake.
CroneRaven1810 or ps4 because I miss out on the game the first time
They changed the gameplay style of a spin-off title because it's a spin-off title. Why would you make a spin-off title and not change anything?
stop doing shit things sega ,remaster Valkyria 2 & 3 on PS4 & steam !! that is what we want!!!
#fuckusega
tan Jjin i would buy the remastered in an instant.
tan Jjin FUCK 2, THAT GAME WAS FUCKING STUPID AND UNFUN
Crystian Corona lol calm down dude, everyone have their own opinion.
tan Jjin I'd love to play a remastered console/PC version of part two and three. as for reveloution, I'm just glad it's a spin-off. sadly I can hear Sega saying some bs like "reveloution's poor sales=fans no want chronicles 2&3 remastered"
tan Jjin Hello Daru
I heard you want loading time within your loading. Awesome. Now you got it.
They should've just created the events of the First European War. Imagine controlling Welkin's father alongside with Edelweiss.
Looking back at this game, one of the cases that if it had a different name it would be seen a different way.
WHAT YEAR IS THIS
Orange
i love the story tho. many details seemed so real, not pretentious nor fairytale-ish. the devil side also have very rish characters, like Maxim did not slain Emperor when he determined to quit, like Emperor spare his life when Maxim turned his back to him.
WHERE IN THE HELL IS JAKE BALDMAN INO?!??!!!
Slayer4640 pls stfu
Its not a perfect game but its not as bad as everyone tells u. Try 4 urself as with many things in life. Its ok/good and cheap now thanks to the haters.
Thank god this is only a spin off and not a main entry to the series. Let´s hope Sega doesn´t fuck up the next numbered Valkyria Chronicles title.
Any comments on the ost? Yasunori Mitsuda compositions were the only reason i was thinking about playing the game
from semi-realistic WW2 with rifles and SMGs contrasting really well with the anti-tank rocket lances and the magic valkyrur lance to a bunch of PSP why-the-fucks i didnt play and wont comment on but why the hell did 2 shift to a high school environment and why does 3 have a massive fuckoff gun-sword(?) to...whatever this is, the new series for sega to sonic-fuck-up.
Couldn't agree more :(
TheRyderShotgun but they're in a military school for part two, it's not just soley a high school.
the reason to it shifting to a military academy setting makes sense, since in 2 gallia was in a civil war state and in that universe, the military wont do jack in internal conflicts so they send the military academy students
also in 3 the chick with the lancer sword custom made it which means it isnt even standard military grade, dont shit your pants. also its timeline is simultaneous with 1 so yeah
Right, yes, first of all, not involving *the military* in a civil war for any reason is a plot contrivance. And literally any other semi-military force would be infinitely preferable to a collection of *children* still learning the ropes. Say, oh i don't know, pulling a random word out of the hat here, *the militia!?* The famous war hero of EWII and his wife who's a *FUCKING GODDESS OF WAR!?*
As for the gun-sword, I'll actually look into it a bit more and get back to you.
Not to mention that the only people to wield weapons of equal or even greater size are:
What's with the sega water mark?
The original Valkeriya Chronicles game was an excellent game. A must buy if you have a Pc or PS4.
Damn, Falcon swooping in for the savage review
I've absolutely no idea why sega localized it when it went beyond tanked in Japan, I suppose they already started the localization process before it went dead on arrival. Shame they didn't get raita to do the arts again.
Before you buy, just don't buy it.
4:16 "This game loads more than a Forklift in a warehouse"
Holy shit Falcon savage levels lol
To sum it up this is just a discount Dynasty warriors, all the while being a poor imitation on trying to capture the first Valkyria game feel
And thus it ends up being neither. What a shame, Valkyria Chronicles deserves better.
Its a spinoff
Ken "Prototype 01" Bladehart and its a joke
Arent spinoff supposed to be joke in the first place?
No, they're supposed to pay homage to the original material, or add something interesting to the table. This just looks like water down Dynasty Warriors with little to no depth or proper game design, certainly not compared to the original game.
I only paid $13 for it new off of Amazon. Just waiting for it in the mail now. Even if it's bad I only paid a few dollars for it, so I can't complain too much. I almost bought it on release day. Glad I held out.
I hope you'll do one of these when the new Ys game comes out. It's been so long since the last one that I'm afraid that theyve changed the gameplay like what happened with this. =/
Oh this aged bad. They fucked Ys. Turned it in to a big boring 3D world and made everything a chore.
I'm really enjoying this game with like 5/6-ish + hours into it. First title in the series I've played and the world and characters seem interesting. However I'll say these are valid complaints about the game that could have been improved on. 10/10 Solid and fair review.
Dynasty Valkyria Horizon Zero Dawn Revolution...
I love the honest take on the game with Falcon instead of the roundabout 'it can be good but not all the time' of Jake
never heard of this game before :D
I just found out about this game a while ago. I was excited at first, but then I saw the gameplay and the comments the followed. I guess we won't see a decent Valkyria Chronicles game for a *long* time.
Is it worth 20 bucks

7:05 Milla Maxwell? What are you doing in this game?
Always a complete and honest and on point review!! Thanks!!
I got this game from my Grandmother on my 15 Birthday
How is it?
Not bad to me! It is pretty underrated
when did this game come out lol
I played the JP demo before buying the game so I knew more or less what I was getting into. Noticed the same issues but didn't stop me from buying it.
Falcon make good games sounds great, and bad games sound like they should of never bin made
How did they jump from turn based/real time strategy to hack and slash? That's pretty much as different 2 genres can possibly be. Dynasty warrior is the antithesis of a strategy game.
Where is Jake?
Derek Story hopefully left gameranx or dead...
he is a bad reviewer...
Good thing I didn't buy.
Remember how the producer said something like they wouldn't make another console game until they had new idea? Here's five awesome ideas for a better Valkyria Chronicles, using the old command point style we love:
1. Sea battles (And you can board enemy ships)
2. Special abilities (that happen when you want, not randomly. "Don't double attack now, Vyse, he's already dead!")
3. A campaign map--allowing freedom of movement and a choice in where your next battle is (as in a choice of attacking the enemy from the north or the south)
4. Airplanes and airships for air superiority battles
5. Multiple endings (with a serious story--not more fanservice bullshit)
Never mind that--they should probably just make another one about highschool and talking about bust measurements.
MediaVision, stop making Valkyria games, okay? get Game Arts or whatever to make a better standalone Valkyria game.
Played the living HELL out of the 1st Valkyria Chronicles. 2nd one I never played because they went from console to handheld. And now they come back to consoles but the battle system isn't the same... They just can't let good things stay as is...
Slow week, huh?
That's sad too. Valkyria Chronicles was one of the best JRPGs I've played since Nier and Suikoden.
I was considering buying it. Phew, thanks for the save. I suppose I will wait until it's at least 60% on sale.
:/ I had hopes for this. So sad
I didn't. Not after the reveal what the gameplay consisted of.
It could have been more strategic, but no, just another God Eater or FF Type Zero clone.
Yes. Trash? Not at all. It's just uniquely decent...
im still gonna buy it. i want to play it just as much if not more for the cinematics and story as the gameplay.
Justin S exactly why I got it. Cause in all honesty - it plays just like any other JRPG lol
ill just wait till the price goes down on it first. i would just say fuckit and buy it, but i just blew a bunch of money on the damn steam summer sale xD
The game is retarded. The gameplay sucks, the characters don't fit in with the setting, and for god sakes the fuckers are running around with medieval weapons in an age where firearms, walker-tanks and metal gears exist.
@@Hyrule409 LOL
I think the worse crime here was there was barely any peep from the games localization after it's announcement. I just heard it's coming out this month recently and barely in the past few months.
Wow. Gameranx guy is actually tilted/salty
Best Valkyrie game hands down
I don't even know what this game is. I'm just here cus I'm early.
Hugh Mungus you're not missing much, it's a shitty prequel to an awesome series
Hugh Mungus yep.
Hugh Mungus im just here cuz i like before you buys
@Rai Jin
Its not even a prequel, its a spinoff
Ken "Prototype 01" Bladehart spinoff? in which area of europa is this? the empire? a place in gallia we have not seen yet?
Do a before you buy on hollow knight, maybe when the free dlc releases or when releaes on other platforms, that game deserves some attention
not even on pc smh
a hobo but, will it come eventually 2 you guys right?...
RIP.
I would never want this on pc this game is going to kill the valkyria series and why because they thought they could sell more by pandering to casuals
Beautiful comment
Dynasty Warrior game wtf happen to this series. It was a tactical rpg last time i checked, and my god what happened to the awesome artstyle of the first game? looks liike shit..Yea i pass on this
IKR, wtf happened? It's as if they had a meeting and were like:
"How do we take this good game we have and make it generic and tedious as hell?"
Adam Shalashaska it was suppose to be a spin-off apparently, which is why it is called Revolution instead of Chronicles, still doesn't save it from being bad though, still probably better than Valkyria 2 (God I hate Valkyria 2)
Interesting, I always wanted to see one of this made by Falcon, overall because I like the opinion he has in this kind of japanese rpg games
Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 are my favourite dynasty style games. I wonder will Hyrule Warriors make it to the switch
Interesting
I'm a huge valkyria chronicles fan and was considering picking this up. After seeing some of the gameplay and hearing some of the cons, I will probably pass (or at least wait). Thanks for the heads up falcon :D
this game is so cringe
k
anyone else experiencing the audio going up and down?
Ok, the new battle system SUCKS.
Just stick with Valkyria Chronicles - a much better well-done masterpiece.
The normal VC system is INFINITELY better - Falcon
This game and all its reviews kind of reminds me of Sonic Unleashed when it was reviewed back in 2008...
I don't play games so why am I here?
wrong video. I guess...
TheReal Bryan companionship?
It's destiny. Maybe you haven't figured out your true self yet?
Boy, it's time to pick up a controller!
BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES
Mayhzon yes 😂
Why was this game literally not advertised at all? I honestly haven't heard anything about it, which is strange because I keep up with a lot of videogame news outlets.
This is so typical of Japanese games. One exposition heavy dump after another. It's the same in anime. Exposition dump , exposition dump and exposition dump. It's as if most of those creators can't tell a story without it even if the story is bare bones , they fill it with meaningless stupid and EXTREMELY melodramatic dialogue.
Most modern anime just seem like a fan-fic of a classic anime.
I still have a flickering hope for the Legend of the galactic heroes remake.
Funny thing is, the previous games to this one was pretty ok story wise. About the exposition dump i think is something cultural at this point, they even do it with real life actors movies, the creator of Nier Yoko Taro once talked about this and said that it was in purpose, and in general i have seen this a lot in japanese media, the modern one at least, they're willing to sacrifice standard rules of writing in post of forcing emotional reactions from the player and/or audience (this is one of the reason as to why characters always shout the names of their attacks before doing them)
I think we would be happy if Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 was ported/remastered for pc/ps4.
JN L 3 still has to be localized. It wasn't released outside of Japan.
ShiningT1g3R it's what I meant. i just edited my comment to include VC 3 because I almost forgot about it.
