Great video! I haven't played much of Revolution but it didn't seem nearly as bad as people were saying and it's cool to see a different and deeper take on it. cheers!
@@XonixDerps It's pretty cheap these days! So at least from a money perspective, I can definitely see it be worth a shot. Time might be the other thing. It isn't a particularly short game and I think in the video I mentioned it takes awhile to really get moving. But if you think it will help you avoid some pit falls in your game's design, I would see it being a solid investment!
@@OneControllerPort Thanks for the info, ill def look into it once im done a few others. I personally have a feeling this could've been pretty nice shake up if polished abit more! Haha
I love RPG’s and was surprised when I saw this on the Xbox store. I have VC4 to Switch but I never even saw this game. This is more what I like. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! I love both VC and VR, but they're definitely very different games lol. I hope you enjoy it! The same devs also worked on a game called Shining Resonance Refrain, which came out on all last gen consoles. Imo it's not as good, but may be worth looking into! I did a more casual video about it if you wanna watch that. Though I think there's a demo if you just wanna try it yourself. ua-cam.com/video/4rwMPT4P2sM/v-deo.html
@@OneControllerPort yes I have shining resonance refrain on the Switch. It’s exactly as you say. It’s fun but it’s not the best RPG I’ve played. My backlog is horrendous. Lol!
@@JMrealgamer Lol I've been terrible at managing mine. I have a big ol stack of imports I got recently that have been sitting behind me for weeks...and some months now lol.
This is one of those games I think about a lot. It feels a lot like fighting a war, and especially against our real life Ruzhien Empire. I think the mechanic of hearing a lullaby in the midst of battle shortly before the Valkyria shows up and annihilates you is amazing, and always has you on your toes. The music is phenomenal as well. I think this game would be great if it had a rebalance of its gameplay specifically; because while the fantasy elements are a bit fairy tale, that's okay, it is a fairy tale in some ways.
@@OneControllerPort Yeah, it's one of those games which won't come back. It was too polarizing to the fanbase. But I think it's important to take several things from it. Notably a moving and changing strategic battlefield which forces you to make tough decisions which may not work even if you win. A boogeyman which is both dangerous and subtle to keep your ego in check. And also the thematic contrast. Eternal Rest followed by death itself.
I see your into a lot of obscure games so a game I'd recommend for you to check out would be Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, its not perfect but there's a buttload of charm and stuff in it that makes it memorable and worth playing.
I like this review. Most reviews for this game are really biased so getting a genuine review like this has me a lot more invested in the idea to buy it at some point. Either when I have the money or when it goes on sale! P.S: You got yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks,, glad you liked it! Yeah, I can't remember how cautious I was in the video but I do think it's good to keep your expectations in check. I just honestly thought there was a lot more value in that game than initially presented, but I also know at the time people were kind of salty about no new VC (Plus came after no VC3 in US lol). I'm actually kind of curiou what the Japanese reviews for the game looked like, now that I mention it. Maybe something I'll poke my nose into at some point. Thanks again! Hope you enjoy the new stuff! I think the new Babylon's Fall video would be up your alley. Though it is loooong.
@@MegaRayland Yeah in more recent years if there's some big drama over a western game, I'll often check the Japanese reviews now because they tend to feel more even handed, like with Babylon's Fall. But we have pretty big language and cultural barriers between Japan and America at least so how criticism works probably has some differences.
I "decided" to give a try to this game, I got it for PS4 very cheap and what a surprise that all the dlc&add on (22 or 28) on the PS Store have been free. The excess of loading times get me crazy, lading, loading, loading.....
I had heard that for some reason it showed up on stores for free! I wonder if it's for a future PS+ thing. I can't remember the loading screens being a problem for me, but I can totally understand that frustration. Wonder if it loads any better on a PS5/XSX?
@@OneControllerPort that free thing was a bug actually, I got the game a few months ago and I didn't have the time to play. Every purchase copy from PS Store has all the dlc for free anyway. The PS5 loadings must be crazy short
You sold me on the game. It looks good enough and glad its not lengthy, too many games try to sell "x amount of hours". I rather have a average to good rpg with a short length.
Yeah, that would be lovely! I loved 2, still haven't gotten to 3 yet though. It's been sitting fan translated on my PSTV for awhile...just need to find the time lol.
@@Xres-belmont Ah that's a shame, though I know a lot of people who approached it that way. I hope some day the game gets its due in the spotlight as some kind of misunderstood retro gem!

Yeah I think people are a little harsh on it, but it is for sure more flawed than your typical Valkyria lol.
