The first Vermintide game took a TON of strokes from Left 4 Dead. From the format of going from safehouse to safehouse fighting hordes of enemies along the way to getting to the end of a level and fighting in one spot until evac arrives. Granted, this can be said about a few games (World War Z comes to mind immediately) but at least those other games had the decency to change up the type of special enemies you'd come across. Vermintide, though, lifted them DIRECTLY from L4D! They had their own Smoker, their own Hunter, etc. The only one they didn't take was the Witch. That would have been WAY too blatant.

We asked for Area F2. The whole community loved it, I remember having a lot of fun with my friends during the peak of COVID playing this siege clone on mobile. Ubisoft couldn't build it themselves and look where they are now.
The reason that there are so many ripoffs on mobile platforms is simple: Most mobile "gamers" aren't very street-savvy or industry-savvy. They are the most casual of the casual in the world, and usually ONLY play games on phones. They don't understand PC or console gaming and don't care to -- they're normies who think that playing Candy Crush makes them a "gamer."
Just gonna throw this out there, Marvel Rivals is a super super good game, and i completely love it. I do believe there is a very good chance of it becoming the overwatch killer, but there are definitely many similarities to overwatch. The gameplay itself is super similar, and a lot of the characters remind me of characters from overwatch as far as their move set goes. For example Starlord definitely feels like tracer, spider girl reminds me of Diva, both scarlet witch and cloak and dagger remind me of miora to some extent, punisher is kind of a mix between soldier 76 and bastion, and then finally winter soldier kind of reminds me of reaper. Not only that but some of the game modes are very similar to some of the modes on overwatch as well. Maybe some of this is a reach, i'm not sure, and don't get me wrong, I will definitely continue to play it, because I feel like Marvel Rivals is superior to Overwatch at this point in time, and I'd love to see Blizzard take a backseat given their scummy anti consumer antics, but am I the only one that has noticed these similarities as well?
I agree the game is very similar to Overwatch it's a hero shooter I don't what more you can really innovative in that genre but it has exclusive team up mechanics I haven't seen in anything else but it's also a MARVEL game so it's gonna be given a pass. Not to mention Overwatch 2 was an embarrassment of a game/unnecessary sequel they've ruined the brand so someone else simply capitalised and now you got Netease making Rivals. As you said multiple characters kinda feel like combinations of those from overwatch Star Lord to me is Tracer and Reaper, Adam Warlock is Mercy, Hawkeye is Hanzo with Genji elements, Cap and Bucky are kinda like Doomfist but that's the point OW is/was the GOAT and has cemented hero shooter mechanics Rivals is building on those foundations I just want to see how much steam it can maintain and because it's Marvel we'd likely see DC taking a crack at it since they copied Smash with Multiverses.
That is very true. Overall I'm very pleased with the game I just couldn't ignore the similarities to overwatch. However I'm glad we now have something else to play that is similar to overwatch given the dumpster fire I feel like it's become.
The Warcraft Nuclear Epidemic story is even crazier than the game. Apparently it was made with the intention of having blizzard publish the thing as an official sequel… without talking to blizzard
I'm gonna go for a little rant here. I will have to produce a game to prove I understand coding with a team I haven't met yet in few months. We start next month and while I have an idea what type of game I could make, I have no idea how to approach it without blatantly copying from others. I have been procrastinating on learning unity stuff, but I "think" that I can at least build the surroundings in case I'm not in charge of the little story it will have. Famous last words. If I get my idea to be the one to be the one we end up making, I can take a back seat as I love writings stories, but if that won't work, I hope to god that I get a job that is easy for me to manage like making the houses and stuff. I take my place as a leech with strife and deal with what comes after. Do not agree with Motrim being on this list as it is too early to be calling it a copy cat. EVERYONE takes inspiration from other media it is why it is called inspiration.
I remember my father buying one of those toy guns you plug in to the TV and shoot at the screen, it was generic bad guys not duck hunt but still as fun.
Reason why companies copy character designs and stuff in games that aren't fully rip-off is feeling of familiarity. Not necessarily always aiming at making people think it is the same property. Because feeling of familiarity does boost feeling of security and thus making it more likely for someone to think about downloading and playing it. I mean same concept is reason why annoying ads exist. Despite everyone being quick to tell you how, "if your ad annoys me, I am never buying your product". It still works on vast majority. Because when they are buying something, they will remember ad regardless if they liked it or not and are more likely to go for brand they heard about than some unknown one they hear of for the first time. Same applies to copying heroes. Because one of the thing they teach you in marketing is, that half if not more of effort is just getting customer to walk into your store. Or in this case download the game. Doing sale afterwards is way easier, all other stages of it are less than half of effort needed. So hence why they do everything to get you to download it, because that increases their chances of you playing it way more and thus also increases chances of them then trying to sell you those familiar heroes. Sometimes even from multiple franchises. Can't remember the game, but I think one tried to sell me Ezio from Assassin's Creed, multiple Warcraft 3 characters, Kratos and I think few others... Because they are just betting on you wanting those due to them being legendary in their own games and it does work. Plus them being strong characters in their own games basically does advertising of strong character for them.
