  • This video describes some of my favorite drills that we have found over the past two decades and incorporated into our daily practice plans. Drilling is the quickest way to improve a wrestler's technique. The drills in this video promote develop good habits in common wrestling positions. Very purposefully included in this set are movements for wrestlers in the three main positions of wrestling: nuetral, top and bottom. Wrestlers on the high school team will get used to these drills and will get better in these positions as the season progresses. When wrestlers are first learning these drills, I will demonstrate how to do them then wrestlers will drill. After wrestlers have been doing the same drill for awhile and become better at them, I will demonstrate specifically how each drill correlates to motions in competitions then wrestlers will drill.

This channel is designed specifically for North Salem wrestlers, but would be beneficial to anyone interested in wrestling skills, mixed martial arts techniques or improving overall physical fitness. I have been the head wrestling coach at North Salem High School for over a decade and have developed a successful system for training championship wrestlers. This UA-cam channel is a virtual playbook for all the moves I expect North Salem wrestlers to know. I was also an MMA cage fighter for the first part of my coaching career, winning five different amateur MMA belts. I will keep the focus of this channel on wrestling, but plan to also upload some mixed martial arts drills to promote skills and good habits.

I am learning BJJ and I have no grappling background. Takedowns have been so hard for me and I cant wait to work on these drills. timing and controlling the space is so hard to understand. I really like running drills, I feel like it builds muscle memory and helps you see what's
    possible.

Question: My son's coach has asked him to practice wrestling above his weight class so the heavier guys will be able to practice their holds. My son is now complaining of pain in his chest, back and has trouble catching his breath. I'm taking him to the doctor, but is this a common practice?

Partner drilling is a must, but it sounds like your son might be getting used as a wrestling dummy. Don't let that coach be the reason your son has future issues.

Sorry for delayed response, but that is not a common practice in our wrestling program. I am sorry to hear that. I hope everything is ok with your son.

How much heavier are we talking? When I wrestled at 160 I wrestled teammates from 140 all the way till heavyweight. But i was pretty muscular
