Filling Bulgarian Bags The Right Way
This video describes how to fill a body bag (oftentimes called bulgarian bags). We use sand and some type of cloth stuffing. The cloth is best if it is ripped into small pieces about the length of your hand. The sand can be purchased from Home Depot or a variety of other places. Good luck!
This channel is designed specifically for North Salem wrestlers, but would be beneficial to anyone interested in wrestling skills, mixed martial arts techniques or improving overall physical fitness. I have been the head wrestling coach at North Salem High School for over a decade and have developed a successful system for training championship wrestlers. This UA-cam channel is a virtual playbook for all the moves I expect North Salem wrestlers to know. I was also an MMA cage fighter for the first part of my coaching career, winning five different amateur MMA belts. I will keep the focus of this channel on wrestling, but plan to also upload some mixed martial arts drills to promote skills and good habits.

Fireman's Carry!
Переглядів 7683 роки тому
This video covers the basics of the fireman's carry. We believe this is important to learn because it gives wrestlers a takedown that can immediately score back points. Fireman's carry can be used at any time in the match, but is a good move to keep in your back pocket for when you need to score 4 or 5 points with very little time left. Shot Defense

When coaching my wrestlers on how to defend shots, I like to teach them about the three lines of defense: (first line) Head, (second line) Hands, and (third line) Hips. I like to teach every series in my room as a list of moves that can be thought of as a check-down list. Order of defenses are no different. Once a wrestler has a thorough understanding of the three lines of defense and how to us...

Front Quarter
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
Although the front quarter is considered a defensive move, I teach kids to use the front quarter as a way to score offensive points. Having a solid front quarter improves a wrestler's defense and makes them dangerous for opponents to shoot on. Use the front quarter to defend leg attacks, but also use it to score takedowns and immediately put opponents in near-fall position. Whether or not you l...

      Really depends. I’m a heavyweight wrestler and use the power Nelson. Usually on the more difficult side especially if they know how to counter but the more tired they are the easier it is to get.

    • @andrewpickett9543
      @andrewpickett9543 2 роки тому

      We have tried multiple ways to seal. We used duct tape on our most successful ones. Sealing the edge is the most important thing because the bulgarian bags will take serious abuse throughout their life when using for wrestling workouts. Hopefully that helps!

    Question: My son's coach has asked him to practice wrestling above his weight class so the heavier guys will be able to practice their holds. My son is now complaining of pain in his chest, back and has trouble catching his breath. I'm taking him to the doctor, but is this a common practice?

    • @onewing420
      @onewing420 2 роки тому

      Partner drilling is a must, but it sounds like your son might be getting used as a wrestling dummy. Don't let that coach be the reason your son has future issues.

    I am learning BJJ and I have no grappling background. Takedowns have been so hard for me and I cant wait to work on these drills. timing and controlling the space is so hard to understand. I really like running drills, I feel like it builds muscle memory and helps you see what's possible.
