It's also super outside of acceptable norms in Japan, so even in super tense or serious situations, he is standing out and disregarding social norms. in my brain there are 2 types of reactors: analyzers and hype reactors. I wouldn't watch a hype reactor watch AoT or Death Note because they most likely won't pick up on the cool parts that i personally, but i would watch them react to an action anime like JJK or Solo Leveling since those don't require any brain energy to understand what's going on. Your reactions are perfect for AoT and Death Note for me because you're not going "YOOOO WOAH THATS SICK" every 5 minutes and instead you pick up on details in the dialogue or in the framing of certain scenes..etc. So yes, even if you're not a hype reactor, your yapping is much appreciated and i love your reactions!
I'm just not a hype reactor at all and I think that comes with my age and gender 😂 Most hype reactors tend to be men and younger. I'm a 30 year old woman. I might have intense reactions to something BIG but it would have to be significant like a plot point or a death I wasn't expecting. Not a fight / action scene where it's like "yeah that's cool but I want to see the story" haha!! I'd also cringe at myself if I was screaming "OMG HOW COOL IS THAT! Episode 2, along with THIS ONE are what cemented my interest in the show. The #2 for the great bait L set up against light and this reveal for being a genius move. Putting himself in the line of fire, was paradoxically, the safest move to make, because now not only can light NOT kill him, but he shouldn't either or he'd get caught.
Never be ashamed of being a natural reactor. I personally cant stand the overreactors or the ones who cant shut up while speaking loudly, or worse the ones that constantly keep pausing to be funny or talk about too much stuff unrelated to the video.
In regards to the comments at the start of the video, the appeal of your channel is, in my opinion, your level of media literacy and analysis. I find it refreshing compared to other react channels.
I looooove this episode because Light is usually so composed and self-assured, so to see him finally rattled feels so good and earned 😈 Like I said, the back and forth between them keeps the tension ratcheting up, and it is amazing to watch. OK, I've binged your Death Note videos and am caught up now :) Loved the "I'm L" moment and Light losing it afterwards. I also love that Light was envious of L due to his obvious wealth and intelligence. Light loves the idea of being a god, but the thought of one of his peers being equal or even superior to him ruins that image of himself. His ego is huge!! Love the video, as always, and am really enjoying the dub for this (L's voice actor is particularly good).

Wow, his sense of justice goes way beyond crime and into social and economic inequality, or more specifically if Light feels inferior, making him very childish and dangerous indeed.
Light's outburst after getting confronted by L is one of my favorite moments in the story. First, in the manga it feels very sudden and he's drawn very viscerally angry, so it takes you by surprise. But in terms of his character, it's perfect. Light is usually the perfect model of composure. This was even demonstrated during this episode during the interaction itself. Nothing ruffles his feathers outwardly, and internally he's not much different most of the time. But there's absolutely nothing that Light cares about more than his own ego, even if he wouldn't admit it to himself. And because of that he's an incredibly sore loser, as L notes. When he "loses" here, and L punctures that ego, his fury is so strong that he can barely get home before unleashing it. He only calms down when he's able to convince himself there's a way to use it to his advantage, so that he hasn't actually lost. It's a sign of his instability. He can't really contain his emotions when it counts. And these outbursts are the things that L catches and latches onto, first with the only other time we've seen Light like this (a virtually identical situation in regards to Light's ego being checked by L calling him evil), then his theatrics with the disposal of Raye in the subway, and most recently with his comment about the ICPO officers. Light can't help but display his true emotions and gloat even if he thinks he's being clever about it, and every single time L gets closer to figuring out it's him.

Yeah - I started this as a way to be creative and make some use from my PhD since I didn't want to pursue academia but I still love analysing literature. 4:00 it's the opposite. I find really loud and animated reactors sometimes too dramatic. Sometimes it seems like they're forcing it to grab your attention. I enjoy much more when someone gives really in depth commentary and not overdoing it. You're awesome, and wow, I didn't even realise you'd only been doing this for 2 months! Based on the Ghibli movies you've seen so far, I'm going to highly recommend Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It has a similar tone to Princess Mononoke but it's one of Miyazaki's earliest works. The music and atmosphere are phenomenal.
I think The Boy and the Heron would be an interesting Ghibli film to hear your thoughts on (lots of interesting themes), or for more good feels I would recommend Kiki's Delivery Service 😄
Not a Ghibli movie but I think you might enjoy Bungou Stray Dogs! Most of the characters are based around authors and poets (Lots of Japanese but some English too) and they also have abilities based on their books. It may not be the best for starters but it's a fun watch :D

I haven't seen any Ghibli movies, in fact the only 2 stand-alone movies I've seen are Ghost in the Shell and Jin-Roh, both by the same studio and would be great picks from a psychologist perspective. The studio also did Psycho-Pass and Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, 2 animes about a cyberpunk police force, also very good choices for reactions. Psycho-Pass does have a movie between season 2 and 3 tho, and GitS: SAC has nothing to do with the 1995 movie (the later anime "stands-alone" from the movie based on the og manga) aside from starring the same characters, and there is a sequel movie to the 1995 one that also has nothing to do with the manga.
Also my favorite anime of all time is an underground one called Kino's Journey, about political/cultural philosophy and travelling by (talking) motorbike to different friendly/hostile city-states to learn about them.
It's really enjoyable seeing someone keep up with the plot this well. Youve clocked several plot points episodes in advance already, it's great. I cant think of any other reactions that followed so well, then again I cant think of any other reactors with doctorates in literature :-p Glad you switched to dub as well, im sure the original japanese is just as good as the dub is for us if youre fluent in japanese but just reading subtitles you lose nuances. Often dubs are bad enough that the sub is still better, but this one actually captures and localises the nuances of the characters in such a way that I genuinely consider it essential. Episode 2 in particular I think benefited a lot from the dub so I hope you went back and rewatched it (not that you miss anything if you didnt, I just find the dialogue of L and Lights encounter incredibly executed)

I've been really interested in the western occult tradition lately and reading through Agrippas 3 books of occult philosophy, that kind of ceremonial/ritual astrologically grounded magic(k) would suit this shows atmosphere and type of storytelling very well, especially if the instinct to go all "SATANIC PANIC HUMAN SACRIFICES" was resisted. Alas
I personally don't enjoy the over the top reactions, they come across as too fake. And when I watch reaction channels, I personally want to see people's genuine reaction, not what they think people want to see.

I looooove this episode because Light is usually so composed and self-assured, so to see him finally rattled feels so good and earned 😈 Like I said, the back and forth between them keeps the tension ratcheting up, and it is amazing to watch. This show just keeps getting better and better if you can believe it!
I've rewatched DN Many times, and I really enjoy how much you appreciate the writing and characters. It's honestly such a pleasure to watch it "with" you! Especially because I have a chronic illness that keeps me home most days, so I spend a lot of time by myself. Having a good Reactor to watch things along with makes the days feel a little less lonely in a weird way 😅😊

That's another thing I really like about DN, it never feels like a moment is wasted. There's never an episode that I feel like, eh that was filler I could have skipped, or nothing really advanced... They are always moving things forward, and pieces are constantly shifting.

Loved the "I'm L" moment and Light losing it afterwards. I also love that Light was envious of L due to his obvious wealth and intelligence. Light loves the idea of being a god, but the thought of one of his peers being equal or even superior to him ruins that image of himself. His ego is huge!! Love the video, as always, and am really enjoying the dub for this (L's voice actor is particularly good).
Just watching him dissolve into a tantrum and have that smugness wiped from his face even just for a few moments was so cathartic haha!!

Wow, his sense of justice goes way beyond crime and into social and economic inequality, or more specifically if Light feels inferior, making him very childish and dangerous indeed.
Light's outburst after getting confronted by L is one of my favorite moments in the story. First, in the manga it feels very sudden and he's drawn very viscerally angry, so it takes you by surprise. But in terms of his character, it's perfect. Light is usually the perfect model of composure. This was even demonstrated during this episode during the interaction itself. Nothing ruffles his feathers outwardly, and internally he's not much different most of the time. But there's absolutely nothing that Light cares about more than his own ego, even if he wouldn't admit it to himself. And because of that he's an incredibly sore loser, as L notes. When he "loses" here, and L punctures that ego, his fury is so strong that he can barely get home before unleashing it. He only calms down when he's able to convince himself there's a way to use it to his advantage, so that he hasn't actually lost. It's a sign of his instability. He can't really contain his emotions when it counts.
And these outbursts are the things that L catches and latches onto, first with the only other time we've seen Light like this (a virtually identical situation in regards to Light's ego being checked by L calling him evil), then his theatrics with the disposal of Raye in the subway, and most recently with his comment about the ICPO officers. Light can't help but display his true emotions and gloat even if he thinks he's being clever about it, and every single time L gets closer to figuring out it's him.
Light freaking out, is everything 😂

Yeah - I started this as a way to be creative and make some use from my PhD since I didn't want to pursue academia but I still love analysing literature. I've got pocket privilege as a person who wears mostly mens stuff, but I own some women's pants and they suck for pocket space. I don't know if people from the upside down part of the world use pants like the UK does, so I mean American pants.

4:00 it's the opposite. I find really loud and animated reactors sometimes too dramatic. Sometimes it seems like they're forcing it to grab your attention. I enjoy much more when someone gives really in depth commentary and not overdoing it. You're awesome, and wow, I didn't even realise you'd only been doing this for 2 months!
Based on the Ghibli movies you've seen so far, I'm going to highly recommend Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It has a similar tone to Princess Mononoke but it's one of Miyazaki's earliest works. The music and atmosphere are phenomenal.
I think The Boy and the Heron would be an interesting Ghibli film to hear your thoughts on (lots of interesting themes), or for more good feels I would recommend Kiki's Delivery Service 😄
Not a Ghibli movie but I think you might enjoy Bungou Stray Dogs! Most of the characters are based around authors and poets (Lots of Japanese but some English too) and they also have abilities based on their books. It may not be the best for starters but it's a fun watch :D
since you asked: I'd love to see you reacting to "on this corner of the world", is an anime movie about how the WW2 was like on Japan, so, it's obviously sad, and I don't know if you'd like to react to that, but I love how it is written and the art on it, maybe you could watch some trailers or smth to decide ^^

Unfortunately wouldn't help as I film 2 screens separately and edit them in post so I can move my webcam around plus the quality would be absolutely shocking. Twitch is horrendous. Takes a lot of resources as well to be streaming, watching something, and recording at the same time too!

I haven't seen any Ghibli movies, in fact the only 2 stand-alone movies I've seen are Ghost in the Shell and Jin-Roh, both by the same studio and would be great picks from a psychologist perspective. The studio also did Psycho-Pass and Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, 2 animes about a cyberpunk police force, also very good choices for reactions. Psycho-Pass does have a movie between season 2 and 3 tho, and GitS: SAC has nothing to do with the 1995 movie (the later anime "stands-alone" from the movie based on the og manga) aside from starring the same characters, and there is a sequel movie to the 1995 one that also has nothing to do with the manga.
Also my favorite anime of all time is an underground one called Kino's Journey, about political/cultural philosophy and travelling by (talking) motorbike to different friendly/hostile city-states to learn about them.
Death Note was one hell of a pick, considering the video game re encouraged intrest in it

It's really enjoyable seeing someone keep up with the plot this well. Youve clocked several plot points episodes in advance already, it's great. I cant think of any other reactions that followed so well, then again I cant think of any other reactors with doctorates in literature :-p
Glad you switched to dub as well, im sure the original japanese is just as good as the dub is for us if youre fluent in japanese but just reading subtitles you lose nuances. Often dubs are bad enough that the sub is still better, but this one actually captures and localises the nuances of the characters in such a way that I genuinely consider it essential.
Episode 2 in particular I think benefited a lot from the dub so I hope you went back and rewatched it (not that you miss anything if you didnt, I just find the dialogue of L and Lights encounter incredibly executed)
I honestly think all the True Crime documentaries on serial killers and psychopaths has me clocking things early haha!!
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts that makes sense. Honestly I wish supernatural thrillers like this were more common, I often find serial killer stories that are *too* grounded a bit off-putting at times. I've been really interested in the western occult tradition lately and reading through Agrippas 3 books of occult philosophy, that kind of ceremonial/ritual astrologically grounded magic(k) would suit this shows atmosphere and type of storytelling very well, especially if the instinct to go all "SATANIC PANIC HUMAN SACRIFICES" was resisted. Alas
