That's exactly what you think it is.. Unfortunately". He was "This is super racist!! I can't believe this is 2019 and these products are still popular. What the fuck is wrong with people here? Had this shelf been in a shop in Europe, it would've been a controversy and every news paper will be talking about it the next day, there will be huge protests in front of the shops and petitions will be flowing to the government to ban the product that encourages white-skin supremacy. Why nothing like that happens here?". I want to remind you that this is coming from a white person!!

I remembered an incident from close to 15 yrs ago. I was just humming the song karappuinu azhagu velupinu azhagu.. (nothing wrong with lyrics of the song). At soon as i sang the first 2 words, my cousin (who was then 4 or 5 yrs old and dark skinned) looked at me with a sad face. It just hit me. At that age, shes been conditioned to be beliv her skin color is not desirable and that made her sad. Even though it was not some dramatic incident, i was shaken thinking that how much the skin color talk affects even a kids psyche. She thought i was mocking her. Bt all is good. She is a confident and independent young girl now..in contrast to dark skinned girls from fairness cream ads 😂😂

When my sister and I were 7 and 9, our distant relatives whom we never met came home when our mom wasn't at home. One lady asked us if we were really our mom's biological daughters and rest of them were laughing. When mom came and we told about what happened she was really angry. Our mom is fair skinned and dad is dark skinned.
In Jan during a train journey which was a 3 days duration, a guy asked a kid of 5 years why she was dark skinned and the baby fair skinned in a taunting manner. She got hurt so much and started crying badly.
Everybody just laughed at his joke and was behaving as if she is a kid and it doesnt matter. I couldnt stop myself as i have seen my sister using fair and lovely since that incident and getting bothered about her color for a long time. Racism is very much in this country. Most jokes are done on kids. I have a children's brand and i included kids of all body shapes and color. One of my friends asked why r u doing photoshoots with ugly kids. I stopped talking to him. He is no more my friend.

She is brown skinned and the cutest among our family she isnt white skinned compared to other girls in the family and even adults and other cousins tell that infront of her which later she started getting depressed and infuriated and using ton of powders thinking she may become white skinned. Poor baby doesnt realize that there is nothing wrong with her color and i tried to convince her u r the cutest never bother ur what others tell about ur color. This is so relatable. As a kid I was made to believe I am inferior to my lighter skin toned cousins. “Well meaning” aunties used to give me tips to get lighter tone. India is one of the most racist countries in the world. I’ve never had to face this outside. I am glad my kid is not being brought up anywhere close to those aunties. In her sketches she proudly colours herself brown. But even now, every time I visit India, I have to keep reminding my child to ignore them.
